A Big Win against File Lockers

It took a while and lot of phone calls and pressure on Paypal but finally there is going to be complete co-operation between my campaign against file lockers and Paypal.

http://coldcopy.com.au/paypal-workin...legal-content/

I now have an ongoing dialogue with the most senior person responsible for shutting down illegal sites processing through Paypal and we will be communicating on a regular basis to ensure that every illegal site identified loses their Paypal processing.:thumbsup

Well done!!

Lets hope they don't just 'talk'.....

This isn't just talk. This is the Head of Brand Risk Management for the whole of Paypal and I have a direct line of communication with her. Not just email but direct phone numbers.

She has undertaken to touch base with me on a regular basis as long as my campaign keeps going.

DWB 06-29-2012 02:50 AM

Well done mate. It would be nice to see them pull the plug on most of those sites. If a site is legit, it will know how to clean up its act and survive. If it's not legit, let it burn.

There's already been alot going in behind the scenes today, I can't go into it here but there are going to be monumental shifts in this battle over the coming weeks.

The Paypal breakthrough is fantastic.

Why would a senior Pay Pal anything be in constant contact with you? I mean, no offense but you are basically a nobody to them. You throw up a couple blogs and now your are the largest illegal file sharing crusader on the planet and have a ton of street cred to the point that Pay Pal is going to keep in nonstop contact with you? :1orglaugh It just seems silly.

Read the blog entry, it names the person I am in contact with and her job title.

In the past few days journalists have taken up this story and have been asking Paypal questions. This has prompted senior people from Paypal Australia to be in contact with me to talk about these issues.

Further to that, it may surprise you that professionally I have many good connections, many relating to the "old school tie" of the private school I was educated at.

If you want to scoff then so be it, who am I to stop you. The proof will be in the pudding.
Do you really think Paypal would allow me to blog about conversations I have had with one of their most senior people without objecting ?

Who is scoffing? It's a legitimate question. I am not trying to downl=play what you are attempting to do.

Also, why would PayPal care about what you blog about? Do you think they are monitoring your site 24/7 or something due to it's overwhelming online presence and importance? :1orglaugh

Whatever man, keep on keepin on I guess

I think because I persevered enough that they couldn't ignore me. It also helped that several journalists started asking Paypal about my site and why they were processing payments for illegal material.

If you read my blog entries from before today I was complaining that Paypal weren't taking it seriously, things changed overnight for a couple of reasons and this morning the Head of Brand Risk Management called me early this morning and the dialogue began. We had further and more detailed discussions this evening. (She is in the Asia Pacific Region). I'm pleased with the development and I think everyone else should be too as now Paypal will be doubling their efforts based on not only their own information but on the information I am gathering and sharing with them.

I can't go into everything discussed, the greater portions of our conversations are confidential however I can say that I am convinced Paypal are motivated to get on top of this overwhelming issue.

Seems like Paypal stopping their business with filelockers bothers you a lot...

I need to correct this. As I stated on http://coldcopy.com.au Paypal will not blanket ban file lockers, they will still deal with each on a case by case basis. This is one area where Paypal and I disagree.

To be fair to Harmon, it is surprising that I have been able to score such a good contact so he was fair to question why. Please let's not bicker about this issue. If we let this become another GFY shitfight it will just hurt the cause.

Ruth is a Paxum rep. I don't think she has the power to shut down an account. As it happens though I have a batch of Paxum related file lockers I am going to email to her in the next day or so.

If my understanding of Ruth's role is wrong then I am happy to be corrected.

Also, who the fuck owns Paxum ? I know who owns Paypal but Paxum seems to hide it's true ownership. Maybe Ruth could come out and declare who the ultimate owner of Paxum is so they can be held accountable!

you should look into getting some media coverage

this would "serious" things up and help with Visa/MC

Just all those screenshots with CP titles on filelockers download links in the news would change destroy their business forever.

And go viral and be a world success.

Freaky_Akula 06-29-2012 05:04 AM

It is good to see you are also reporting sites directly to paxum. Your recent paxum thread left a different impression. :thumbsup

pornguy 06-29-2012 05:34 AM

Does this include piracy or just CP and that sort.

Barry-xlovecam 06-29-2012 05:59 AM

Kudos ... :thumbsup

Didnt you banned yourself from this board :upsidedow

"Further to that, it may surprise you that professionally I have many good connections, many relating to the "old school tie" of the private school I was educated at."

LOL - I can't take you seriously after that - sorry !

These paypal/visa officials just happen to be members of your old school boy network??? sadly you alone ended up at the bottom of the social ladder whilst they hold now positions of incredible power that you will wield at will?

Everyone knows these filelockers can have any content on them that have been user uploaded as long as they remove it within 72 hours of notification there is going to be no problem for them at all. Yes, in the case of CP they need to take drastic action and report these kinds of things to the authorities.

Even then when the file lockers are gone, that will make about 5% difference max to sales whilst the large tubes exist.

If you are now claiming that a senior paypal official is discussing other peoples businesses with you (essentially a nobody except in your mind) i think that will damage paypals credibility far more than any of these filelockers.

So after your months of planning --- what have we here? Nothing.

There is no big win since you have displayed nothing new, don't you think everyone who sends dmca to paypal sends a printscreen?? It's not paypal don't believe you that this shit exists on these sites, it's the fact that it does not matter as long as the locker removes within 72 hours of notification. If you can prove they uploaded or directly encouraged uploading of know illegal files or have not removed after notification then yes this could probably help.

Also where are the main culprits on your list the filelockers that have more than 1 visitor per year?? try alexa to find some large ones that will make some kind of difference. Why all these little tiny sites ?? where are the whales on there with millions of visitors??

I'm all for getting sales back to a decent level, however don't get any false hope that the total destruction of all filelockers will make much difference. Tubes alone killed porn sales its as simple as that. People who use these torrents/filelockers will never join porn sites.

Megaupload died - i noticed NOTHING i mean not even 1% movement in traffic or sales.

When one of the larger tubes sites went down for a few days traffic went up over 30% to my sites alone and sales in line with that too. That was just for a few days.

If you want to be a hero, use your private old school tie network of power to do something useful for us all....TUBES

L-Pink 06-29-2012 07:42 AM

You're doing 100% more than 99% of the people here to address a specific area of a large problem. And people are giving you shit. Tough crowd, tough crowd.

.

how about two things:

- do something yourself instead of giving others shit for doing something

- learn how to work with tubes

otherwise you can also take the name of this board literally...

We're going after any file locker that either has pirate content or illegal content, which is pretty much most of them (especially those who reward uploaders).

TheStout 06-29-2012 08:04 AM

I do not understand the haters on this board sometimes. Good job man.

I also don't see the point of going after the small fishes... Try rapidshare, hotfile, uploaded.to but careful as it might hurt :)

I never said that any of my old school network worked at Visa or Mastercard. I merely explained that I have a considerable network of people I can call upon.

In Paypal's eyes, if there is illegal content on it for one hour it's a target for review. Visa and Mastercard are even more stringent.

I'm not doing this for sales, I'm doing this because it's the right thing to do and I have been sick and tired of watching this disgusting industry flourish.

Quote:

Read my blog and decide for yourself, having a Paypal logo on a site which delivers copious amounts of illegal material is worse in Paypal's eyes.

Quote:

So after your months of planning --- what have we here? Nothing.
Squillion lost their account (they did however create another) but affiliates are complaining no payment

Exabit affiliates are up in arms due to no payments since their account freeze.

I claim both those scalps.

Many of these file lockers do encourage illegal material, look at the sales pitches I have pasted at http://stopfilelockers.com

Different sites are being handled in different ways, there are good reasons why I am not publishing some sites yet. To do so may jeopardize other actions being taken.

I don't care, this isn't about sales for me, it's about decency.

The moment Megaupload died many of these sites filled some of the void. Have you ever considered your sales are bad because your sites are crap ? Not every missing sale can be put down to piracy you know.

See, I don't want to be a hero, I just want to achieve the decimation of the illegal file locker industry.

If you think you can make a better stab at this than me, feel free to go ahead. I haven't seen you contribute to this fight in any way. I guess it's pretty easy to sit behind a keyboard and rant.

As I said, there are reasons. I am not able to go into them in public. You'll just have to accept that I'm working toward destroying this industry step by baby step.

Oh rlly.

No porn at all if you want Paypal processing. What procedure beyond the ones for copyright holders do file lockers have in place to delete porn links? Why isn't uploading porn forbidden in their TOS? why does their support staff confirm that "porn is ok"...? should I go on?

Let's expend time and energy on filelockers that actually make no difference to us whilst tubes take all of our sales?
Work with the tubes?
How should we work with tubes that give full length movies ensuring no one requires a porn membership?
There is no working with that model.

How do you personally work with them?

This is a big waste of time, lets start a new thread where we come up with ideas to take the large tube sites out.

They take any need away to join a porn site whilst sucking up all dating, cams etc sales too.

If you want to work with that model you can take the name of this site literally.
