I was interested in starting an organization that would collect the throwaway food of restaurants and buffets to distribute to homeless and hungry people but the fact is that they rather throw away the food in fear of getting sued.

After a certain amount of time certain things are supposed to be thrown away.

SCSI Joe 07-08-2013 05:48 PM

Talk about a surprise for a dumpster diver. There?s enough bad food there to make some ?lucky? homeless guy sick for weeks.

2MuchMark 07-08-2013 06:43 PM

I don't get it. If they are coming for inspection why put food at the dumpster?

Not only that, but he'll end up having one hell of a hard time finding a new job or any job in the near future. Not saying what the restaurant did was right, but no one in their right mind would want to hire someone who madea video like that.

I used (little known fact) work at Subway (And Taco Bell and Wienerschnitzel) and when I worked at Subway every night at closing time a man showed up and collected all of the unused bread.

there are programs in all big cities where food gets collected from restaurants at the end of the night.

i worked at a Keg which is a medium priced steakhouse/bar chain in Canada. they'd just dump tons of good food at the end of the night and i thought it was so wrong that it wasn't donated to the poor and homeless.

From what I read he isnt fired but the manager is. He tried to talk to corporate about this and he was ignored.

I can see that, they probably have cost percentages to hit to get bonuses and keep their job. So corners start to get cut if those goals are unrealistic.

Assuming the video isn't a prank of some sort, my first assumption would be that the food, when stored as waste is not subject to any of the scrutiny of inspectors, violations etc.

Why would somebody with moral and ethical fiber find it tough to find a job after?

What are you talking about? You think everybody is blind and bad?

I know homeless shelters etc can't/won't take cooked food. I'm not sure why.

atom 07-09-2013 08:02 AM

When i used to work at a pizza restaurant when I was 18 and 19, we would take our leftover pizzas and spray them down with nasty cleaning chemicals so the bums would get sick if they ate them. We would also post a sign on the dumpster saying that all food in the dumpster had been treated with chemicals and was unsafe to eat.

Didn't matter though, you would still find a couple of dudes diving in there 1-2 times per week. I would say hey man, you are gonna get really fucking sick if you eat that shit. They didn't care. Even the racoons wouldn't touch the food.

Tom_PM 07-09-2013 08:11 AM

My theory is that people eat in restaurants because not everyone has had a chance to work in one. They're messing with your foods, bro's.
