EU Shows Menu Prep
 

Im stoked for the shows later this month. Given it will be my first time in the EU, (London, Amsterdam, Prague), I'm looking for recommendations on what local delicacies I should make it a point to try or vice-versa, avoid like the plague. Thoughts?

Do you break the yolk and mix it in? Or eat it sort of as is?

What part of the cow is the beef from?

I love it.

You mix it, together with salt, pepper, mustard etc.. then you get toasted bread with olive oil and garlic and rub the garlic over the bread and then put the meat on there and add raw onions.

I just had it and it was delicious :glugglug

Usually served with toast points. Rub the raw garlic on the toast and spread the tartare on it. Tartare is usually made with the cuts from the loin. I had an excellent one in Prague at a restaurant called Argument. Right up there with the best versions I've ever had. And the price was insanely cheap for the quality.

That sounds really nice. Have you ever tried making it at home? Is the quality of the beef the key?

There are theories from crushed cow-eyes to.......

Many times with just regular minced beef.

Fresh filet minced yourself only makes it even better.

It makes me think of sort of a tuna salad on crackers type thing.

At least here we do something similar with salmon. But tuna works too, raw tuna is one of my favorites

Regardless of that, as a business owner paying thousands of dollars to send people halfway across the planet to do business it makes zero sense test one's digestion capabilities and immune system on my business account on a dish that isn't even a local dish

Relax... the food in CZ isn't as bad as in the US....:thumbsup I compared it myself... only the $25 hamburger in Vegas was eatable... I think it was Gordon's (the UK guy)....

I am relaxed. Youre the one making insults, not me. I never claimed food in cz is shitty. I stated I advised against eating raw food in a foreign country. If you knew what you were discussing you would understand the issues I am basing my views on.

I don't see why, if the quality of the product and the hygene standards of a country are similar, you would not advice someone to eat that there... if the only abnormal factor appears to be "location".

2. no, not like shcnitzle. the Op asked for local delicacies, in most all circles that means food that is unique and original to that locale.

3. again, my advice was to avoid raw meat and eggs on an international business trip. it's beyond ludicrous to risk business goals to eat raw meat and eggs that are not even the local delicacy.

Yes this is true, but many countries have adopted a variation of it as a regional dish. A few other Czech specialties that you can also find in other countries that I'd highly recommend:

Potato pancakes
Goulash
Roast with cream sauce

But tartare is just on another level. After steak, tuna is my favourite. I used to be disgusted with the idea of eating raw meat but wow, the taste says it all!

As silly as it sounds, I'm most excited for Amsterdam because of all the amazing Thai restaurants they have. Best Thai food I've ever had was in Thai Phutakun in the city center. :thumbsup

No you did not: "visiting a foreign country" was the factor... You should have said:

The risk of getting sick from that food is just as small as getting sick from other food.
If you really want to avoid all risks at a businesstrip to not fuck up a businesstrip you better not go on a businesstrip and stay home...

:thumbsup Argument has some great food, sad that the portions just keep getting smaller :)

but tartare in CZ is great, a decade ago nobody had good steaks, but everyone had awesome steak tartare, guess they used it all for tartare, none left for steaks :)


yes, but the toppings differ between countries, making them totally different
the Czechs have a great one, never made me ill
in Belgium it's called filet americain, and is very different from the French one, I actually think most people will prefer the Belgian version

in London make sure to look up reviews before you go somewhere

Lokal have all the Czech specialties AMBI LOKÁL and they r good

if you like duck, have it in Prague: Roast duck (pečená kachna)

or if you're really hungry: Pečené vepřové koleno which is roast pork knee or knuckle
