Have you ever done a 24hr fast?

Tried one on Monday. No food for a day, just water.

Was under a lot of stress so I stayed home, didn't go out all day, tried to clear my head. I had also been eating a lot of crap lately and my stomach was not liking it at all (nerves and bad food don't go well together). Next time I will remember to turn off my phone, because I ended up having an especially stressful day. Still, it wasn't too hard and I did feel better the next day.

I think I will try to do it at least once every two months. It's supposed to be great to clean out your system of toxins and maintain health and vigor. It's also supposed to help clear your head.

Anyone try it?

No and I do not see a reason why should I.
I would prefer doing only "super healthy" food instead.

As for toxins - is there much point to have toxin free body for 1 day out of 60?

No food clears the mind. It is evolution. No food clears the mind to be focused mainly on finding food.

I went on a diet and lost 55 lbs in one month. Ate 300 calories a day. Was on a diet pill Dr gave me. Worked wonders.

This is VERY dangerous - Do not attempt unless under strict medical supervision - Even then, don't do it would be my advise...

Common sense escapes some people :)

A few years ago I did 4 days, only water. Strange thing is on day 4 it seemed easier and I could have gone another day or two but I got weirded out by my lack of appetite.

2MuchMark 10-14-2015 01:50 PM

there's nothing to it. Around dinner time you'll feel hungry but later on it will pass and you will hardly notice it.

Joshua G 10-14-2015 01:57 PM

in my experience, i always did a 1 day fast after several weeks of healthy food choices at an aggressively low calorie intake. typically my good dieting habit would end within several days of the full-day fast. i sorta attribute the problem to my pushing the diet too hard, restricting calories too much, & going to a full-day fast is the epitome of over-doing the dieting. my body stops losing weight until i cave in & have a day off the diet, & suddenly i gain back 10 pounds, & find myself unable to get back on the wagon. game over.

I like IF much better, every morning my stomach is empty while I work a physically laborious job & feel much more in tune with my body chemistry, & mental discipline.

i fast for 14-18 hours daily. 24/7/365

I also read that it gets easier (even enjoyable) after 4 days.

Fuck that for a bacon butty.

TheSquealer 10-14-2015 04:14 PM

There is no upside to starving yourself for a day, there are numerous downsides. And do yourself a favor and stop saying hippy, feel good buzzwords like "toxins" which are NEVER defined and actually educate yourself from credible medical literature. Starving yourself = bad in every possible way as far as your physical health is concerned.

Eat healthy whole foods and exercise, drink enough water and get enough sleep every day you won't have to worry about these mysterious "toxins" and you'll feel like a million dollars all the time.

It gets easier because once your blood sugar is completely depleted and spent, you switch to fat for energy. Without waivering blood sugar and insulin highs and lows, your appetite is greatly diminished as your body enters a state of ketosis.

I only used to do 3 day fast.
One day fast does nothing and is just as hard as 3 days to do.

Most I've done is 10 days.
But all that was when I was in my teens and twenties so don't know what to say about doing it when older.

bravo99 10-14-2015 04:36 PM

I've fine the 5 day juice cleanse before. It was hard but after day 2 I didn't even want food. It's weird how fast our bodies can adapt.

L-Pink 10-14-2015 04:47 PM

I drink fresh fruit smoothies for breakfast. Vegetable salads for lunch. Lots of water. Chicken or fish for dinner. Steakhouse 2-3 times a month. Couldn't imagine not eating.

I almost do a 24 hour fast every day more like 15 hours. It's called intermittent fasting. It increases GH and helps burn fat the best. If you really want to do a fast (cleanse) it needs to be at least 3 days and you need to have time off to lay in bed.

I do a 24 hour fast after a cheat day.

As someone who has fasted at least 18 hours most days for the last 2 years, I can say it's something you have to build up to. Don't try to just jump right in or you will be hungry as fuck and fail.

Spend a week putting off breakfast until 9 or 10 am. Then extend that another hour a week later. And keep building on that.

I go to the gym 18 hours fasted and work out like a werewolf on crack. I'm building muscle and getting ripped. I love it.

and that first bite of food is so much better.

Can A 3-Day Fast Reset Your Immune System?

"Well, maybe not a total reset, but at least a mild refresh. The science suggests that, if you can do it, a prolonged fast for 2-3 days or longer may induce your body to clean out some old immune cells and switch on production of new ones."

beerptrol 10-14-2015 05:22 PM

I'll take a good healthy dump over a 24 hr fast anyday!

Whoa!!!! You starved yourself, eating less than an Nazi death camp prisoner, used stimulants at the same time and lost weight? What a fucking shock. Best doctor ever!

J. Falcon 10-14-2015 06:07 PM

Read what doctors say about fasting. You're not starving yourself, since you can go weeks without actually starving. Not surprised by all the hate and ignorance.

you mean you can go weeks before starving yourself to death.

You can go weeks before starvation. Starvation is when your body starts digesting itself.

Yeah, true, but I can't start with 3 days. Not sure if I want to do that long.

no, that's not starving. and no, you do not go weeks before your body burns cells for energy. it's called ketosis and it kicks in within hours, not weeks.

If you can do one day then 3 days is easy.
If you do 3 days you don't even care about food after that.
Seriously!

The first day is the hardest.

Sly 10-14-2015 07:17 PM

I was curious: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starvation#Common_causes

"Starvation" essentially begins if you are consuming fewer calories than you need. After that, you get varying levels of severity.
