Is money the best measure of success for you?

How do you measure success?

ROI?

ROE (return on effort)?

"happiness"? (note the quotes)

Time saved?

Memories?

CurrentlySober 05-12-2019 03:05 AM

Money to me isn't so much a measure of success as it is just a good scoring system.

Quality of life is where it's at for me.

I think a better way to measure success is how happy you are, and how many skills you have managed to build up, and therefore how capable you are on a variety of tasks.

VRPdommy 05-12-2019 05:31 AM

How much money you have, available or in things, means nothing.
Are you accomplishing your goals and wishes ? That is very telling to success.

We always change or move those goalpost in life, as it has a habit of changing, but it is important to be accomplishing some of them. What ever they are.

Most of the feeling of success is simply 'managing expectations'. If you do not, you might be in a continuous feeling of failure as little goes as planned.
There is no better feeling than hitting a brick wall and adapting and overcoming the situation.

Our hopes and dreams normally exceed what is humanly possible.
But if you never fail, you will never learn how to succeed.

If I suddenly came into a bunch of cash, like from winning the lotto or something, I would most likely give much of it away. Probably to self help groups and educating the poor.
For having the cash eliminates the learning strive to be able to manage it.

Happiness is the best measure of success.

Money? haha

My measure of success is not having to work with assholes I don't want to work with. There's no amount of money that can make up for that.

Rochard 05-12-2019 07:12 PM

When I was working for Lightspeed Cash and Playboy I was making great money. At Lightspeed Cash some of our models were making low six figures and I was making a lot more money than them. At Playboy I was making a lot more. But I wasn't happy. At Playboy my day started at 7am when I had to open the office, and my official work day didn't until 8pm at night. After hours there was more work to do remotely. I was missing high quality bonding time with my wife and daughter.

When Playboy let me go I was thrilled. I knew they had planned on closing their office in Sacramento, and was going to be moving everyone down to Southern California. I wanted no part in that.

YNOT offered me a job it was perfect. It allowed me to work from home. I got to spend time with my daughter. I drove my kid to and from school every day for the past ten years - every doctor's visit, practices.... It was great.

I shoot hoops (nearly) every morning, just a half hour or forty-five minutes. I look at the people when I drive to the basketball court in the morning and I have my windows open wide and I'm rocking out and I look at the cars around me and they are all looking sad and windows closed drinking their silly coffee.

I couldn't be happier.

Great stuff Rochard, I like to think money is good up to a certain limit then other priorities kicks in. But in our wild consume for stuff some don't see the real values in life.

Oh, society has changed. I was just talking to my mother and we talked about how where we lived there just was no restaurants to eat. We had a small pizza place we never went to and a little family restaurant (which I worked in as a teen). We had a TV with a fucking antenna which got all of four channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS). Now... we have a dozen restaurants within a one mile restaurant, six dozen here in town, TVs in every room with Hulu and Netflix, Alexa dots in six rooms, plus tablets and laptops and computers galore....

My mother traveled a lot. She went all over the world - Europe, Asia, Middle East, South America..... She is 74 now, lives in a small condo, and still pays a mortgage. I don't travel as much, but my house - worth four times her condo - will be paid off next year when I am 51.

Happiness is NOT a measure of success. It's merely a state of mind.

Certain people will be incredibly happy just to have a roof over their heads and food in their bellies. Does that mean that they are successful people? No. It just means that they are happy with their lot in life.

I think that's true. Happiness very definitely is a state of mind.

pimpmaster9000 05-13-2019 04:25 AM

the measurement of success is how worn out your dick is :2 cents:

wankawonk 05-13-2019 06:19 AM

it's not just how much money you have, it's how you got it.

did you get it with minimal effort, or by slaving away at an office job 9-5 for 15 years?

did you enjoy the process of getting it, or did you have to drag yourself out of bed every morning to slave away at something you hate?

CaptainHowdy 05-13-2019 11:58 AM

I'm a loveable failure . . .

mce 05-14-2019 02:47 AM

The problem with happiness is most people define it in external terms.... as in shit you can't control.

adultinnovation 05-14-2019 03:26 AM

Only two things are important in life.. Health -> money..

But for currentlysober it's Poop - > Health -> Money

What i heard it could get low as 5 USD in low season. Normally 25 - 75 USD per night.
But i prefer just hanging in the swimming pool and talk with other travellers.
Many many nice girls travelling around alone from everywhere in the world.

personal freedom, good intentions and contentment define success.

money is an instrument for personal freedom and some parts of contentment, but it is far from being everything.

Good intentions. Nice one.

I measure success based on how often I am able to express my CREATIVE side

wehateporn 06-11-2019 02:47 AM

Health and happiness more important, but unfortunately in this system we need a certain amount of money to get by

Paul Markham 06-11-2019 03:19 AM

I worked with naked and semi naked females doing lovely things to themselves, rarely on a computer and making lots of money for minimum work.

Now what's not to like about that?

Sure it is. I have enough money to have a nice roof over my head, I have my health, and my wife still loves me after twenty-five years. Oh, and I've never been to prison.

That's success to me.

Don't forget that there is a saying that when you are on your deathbed, its the things you DIDN'T do that you regret - Not the things that you did... :2 cents:

Take your Surface Pro for example. You'd regret NOT buying that... Im quite certain that you won't regret buying it...
