Thanks to people with your mindset, it's embedded in the American pysche that the US is #1. We don't want to hear any other message, so it is repeated ad nauseam by the media and no politician without the desire to commit political suicide can say different. Except we aren't number one in anything much except the size and variety of our armory, as consumers and as debtors. We are now ranked 49th in world literacy and 28th in mathematical literacy with the result that US businesses are forced to spend $30 billion a year on remedial education. We rank 37th in overall health-care standards and 54th in terms of the fairness of our health care (the only other developed country which has no national health care program is South Africa), but we spend more on health per head than any other nation on earth. Among developed nations, only Mexico has a worse rate of child poverty. Women are 70% more likely to die in childbirth here than in Europe and even Cuba has a lower infant mortality rate. Only 50 of the 140 top-ranked Fortune companies are American (61 are European and all but 1 of the 50 "best" companies - according to [i]Global Finance[i] - are European); 14 of the top 20 banks are European; European companies are the biggest in chemicals, food and consumer products, and food and drug retailing. European and Japanese companies dominate engineering and construction. We now borrow $2billion a DAY to stay afloat and 40% of our debt is held by China, Taiwan, Japan and S Korea. Our housing market would likely collapse if the Chinese didn't support low mortage rates so that people can keep buying its products. We lost 1 million jobs last year: 1.3 million to China alone over the last decade. We now import more food than we export. Last year Brazil passed us as the world's biggest beef exporter (they already lead in chickens, orange juice, sugar, coffee and tobacco) and within 10 years is likely to pass us as the overall biggest food exporter. And on and on... The tragedy is that we probably could still be #1 (assuming that matters) except that until you acknowledge there is a problem, you cannot begin to fix it. |
The next pope could be a Canadian.

OK this is directed to me and I will take the bait.
Ignorant moi? That is the pot calling the kettle black. I dont bash America. I bash cock sucking liars like you who seem to think that being a great country is about taking over other peoples country and enforcing them to live the same way as yourself while robbing them of all their assets. I like America, I like coming over to America, but as with every country, race, creed and colour there are always a few fucking idiots. You are one of America's biggest fuck wits. |
A great country doesnt lead because of its arsenal of weapons which induce the others to follow due to fear. It leads because the others want to be lead.

I read in today's paper there is also strong talk of them leaning towards restoring the position to an Italian, which has been the predominant tradition. That article also quoted a Vatican official as saying no USA candidate would be considered, as they would not want the papacy held by someone from the "world's most powerful nation". Interesting. |

I am utterly shocked. I am shocked to learn that my beloved country is not 100% perfect and suffers with social ills. Thank you very much for providing me with this information.
Maybe it is time for me to consider moving to one of the more literate countries. BTW...a recent study done in California (which has the fifth largest economy on the earth) shows that they are 49th in the US as regards education. The study shows that the ever increasing immigrant population (California caucasions became the minority race several years ago)...legal and otherwise...is the primary cause for its decline in education. Hmm...foreign trash? Or maybe it is time for me to consider moving to a country that has socialized health care. Hmm...I don't know that I want to go on a waiting list when I need medical services...as I hear some complain about that live in a country with socialized health care. Also I am not sure that I care to pay the additional taxes that countries with socialized programs have. It has been said that US citizens are the least taxed of all of the Western countries. Or maybe it is time for me to move to Uganda...as the child poverty level is clearly not as high there as it is in the US from the information you provided. Hmm...I wonder if the people living in poverty in Uganda have housing (often subsidized even for the working poor) as is the case in the US. I wonder if they have modern appliances...such as cook stoves...refrigerators...micro waves...mixers etc. etc. as is the case in the US. I wonder if they have beds...dressers...sofas etc. etc. as they do here in the US. I wonder if they have TVs...x-boxes...other toys for their children...one or more cars etc. etc. as is the case in the US. I wonder if they have free or near free health care as those living in poverty in the US have...even the working poor. I wonder if they have subsidized food allowances...as they do here in the US...even the working poor. Or maybe it is time for me to move to Brazil...as I have began to notice a decline in the food products available at my local supermarket. BTW...isn't it foolish for these foreign countries to be investing in the US. If they only knew that the US is on the verge of financial collapse...they would not be doing this would they? It is also foolish of these foreing countries to be loaning money to the US. They too would not being doing that if they knew the US is on the verge of financial collapse...now would they? You know what...on second thought I think I will just continue to live in my beloved America...but with the shocking information you provided to me...I will be contacting my congressman on a frequently with these concerns. Ooops...I forgot...I already do that. I choose not to become an activist many years ago...and I continue to choose not to become an activist...but I do vote in city...county...state...and federal elections and/or referendums. I do contact my congress expressing my concerns...far more than I am sure his staff appreciates. This is the way I try to help my beloved America. I see that you may be from Kansas. Question for you. What do you do to help America? |

I find that funny. Most top students in California are non-Anglos. Over half of all new technology start-ups in California are by non-Anglos. California was hispanic a hundred of years before any thieving Anglo arrived. Face the facts... we hispanics are here to stay and we will rule all of the U.S. West by 2030. You better learn Spanish and Chinese and Hindi if you want your children to have a job. |
Which of the following is the most painful to do?
A. Listen to scraping nails on a chalk board. B. Chew tinfoil. C. Jam needles into your eyeballs. D. Read ANOTHER one of theking's American badass threads. E. All of the above (with strong emphasis on "D") |
