Top 5 Punk Bands of All Time
There are hundreds of great punk bands past and present. Im talking about the bands that you can spot instantly, even if it was some unreleased bulgarian underground bootleg you would be able to spot them instantly. Bands whos releases you devoured and will scream from beginning to end while you drive down the road even to this day.
1) Bad Brains 2) Misfits 3) Youth of Today even though its probably more core than punk 4) Ramones 5) Social Distortion That was harder than I thought it would be. So... lets hear em. |
Anyone says Greenday or Blink will die.
|
But Mark Hoppus is so cute!
|
Limp :O j/k
|
Nirvana
|
greenday, blink, and lets not forget the offspring.
|
Labels may change but I guess these are mostly in the hardcore/punk genre.
1. Black Flag [pre Henry Rollins] 2. Minor Threat [despite the tinge of incipient emo rantings] 3. Flipper 4. The Kids 5. TSOL |
I was always a fan of The Buzzcocks (Orgasm Addict was my favorite song by them - gee what a surprise, given the industry I'm now in. lol ), Siouxsie & The Banshees, Wendy O., and The Dead Kennedy's...way back when. :)
|
1. Rancid
2. Bad Religion 3. Antiheroes 4. Sex Pistols 5. Offspring (I must say) |

Zeke. Dwarves. Poison Idea. Iggy & The Stooges (Raw Power) I listen to this Daily. No particular order except slot 001. |
I like The Ramones, Sex Pistols and... The Stooges. How did they get left off of everyone's list?
Shit, nevermind... looks like someone just posted them. SpaceAce |
Minor Threat blew my little mind the first time I heard them.
Cant believe I forgot to put them on my list. Even though Ian and Fugazi are the godfathers of EMO, a scene which represents all that is sick with the world. |
1. Ramones
2. Ramones 3. Ramones 4. Ramones 5. Guitar Wolf (try find the "fujiyama attack" or "jet generation" songs) |
New York Dolls (they inspired the Sex Pistols)
Wendy O Williams and the Plasmatics |
Can't believe OFFSPRING makes your top 5 lists, jesus... :(

Bad Brains!
|
Greenday and Blink
j/k Iggy Pop Sex Pistols The Who (why not) Ramones and since i need a 5th band...the clash |
The Who is far away from punk of course, but I think it's one of the sounds that affected the punk scene.

I remember when we did a cover of a couple Cryptic Slaughter songs in a band I was in and half the time I didn't know the lyrics but knew what they sounded like... speaking of which...Henry Rollins is on Comedy Central(?) doing his spoken word stuff, funny as hell, but I hope this doesn't make him think he's a comedian....he'll lose his edge ;) |
Rancid
Sex pistols Millencolin Pennywise Goldfinger heheh.. odd choices, I know. I just happen to like 'em Don't kill me. |
The Ramones
The Dolls The Misfits The Clash The last spot is a toss up between The Sex Pistols, Suicidal Tendancies, Rancid and Dead Kennedys. |
Sex Pistols are the founders of punk - at least I think so.
They get my #1 vote. |

I think both MILLIONS OF DEAD COPS , as wel as THE CRAMPS deserve an honorable mention ....
Where's DEATH RATES INC in this list of who's who ?? And let's not forget about Johnnie Lydon and Public Image Limited ... I used to be HEAVY into the punk scene as a teen .... Even had a Orange and Brown mohawk for a summer ... I went to a family reunion that year at Thanksgiving, and scared the living fuck outta my religious grandparents ... I thought they were gonna preform an "excorcism" right there !! :feels-hot |

I actually have something in common with Labret, (ok 2 things). 1) I assume we both have little dicks. And 2) Bad Brains?? Bad Brains is #1 on your list? Daayyyummm, I thought I was the only other person in America that knew them. I especially like "Quickness" |
