Mrfrisky and his adventures in domainsnappingland!

Since a week or 2 i got on this adventure to reinvest some money and tryout some new oppurtunities. One of them is trying to get into the "domain biz". Im still a total noob, and i will make many mistakes. But while doing it all, i will regularly post here how i fucked up, or maybe even my small successes on the dangerous road to becoming a "domainer".

My first steps i took where simply. I checked all domainselling threads on the boards around to see what is being sold. And just bought some that i "liked". Either because i liked the keywords in it, or even with some thought behind it like: Could this be a good one in the near future.

Some of these domains where sold to me by brokers, and some of those brokers became friends and are trying to help me out and prevend me from being a total fuckup and buying shitty domains over and over again :winkwink::thumbsup But as im hardheaded i will fail over and over again, and maybe in the end, i will become a BIT of a pro on domain names, who knows.

The first domains i bought where:

drunksexvidz.com, drunkwifes.com, exgfvidz.com, exvidz.com, homevideoamateur.com
poshtube.com, snobtube.com, trailerparktube.com, xposedvideo.com, xposedvids.com, tubesz.com and tubezs.com.

A bit later on i got the chance to buy imobileporn.com. Which i put some more thought into it before buying it, but with the upcoming craze of mobile porn and mobileporn.com already sold, i really wanted that one. So that one is in my humble portfolio now too.

Then i decided to not only ask for advice, but also to try and find some ways to "snap deleted domains" myself. And by snapping (describing it for the other people not having a clue with the domain biz) i mean: Finding a service that grabs domains that are in the "deleted state" really soon. When that deleted state is up, it means its free on the market and transferable again.

I found a service who does this for $59 dollars. Downloaded the list of domains that where gonna be deleted that day. Did a filtersearch for some keywords that came up in my virgin domainers mind, and copied them into the system so it would let me know when the time was up. After some hours i got the first mail saying the first domains where freed, and that they where now in a "bidding state". Meaning: The domains are on the market, the company somehow snaps them, and when more then 1 person is interested they go into some sort of auction battle. I put the bar high, and put in a max bid, so that when the other person interested would do a bid and the system would autobid higher for me with a certain max.

A couple i lost interest in, because i simply didnt see the value of it being that high. So i "lost the battle" which kinda was depressing. BUT, some other "auction wars" i came out as the winner! Even in the bathtub i was checking my mails to see if the other bidder had sniped in a higher bid in the last minutes. Days after, i read that couldnt even be done, because a lastminute bid would extend the auction anyways. But i was like a kid in a candystore waiting for that last chocolate bar with the golden invitation to charly to be mine!

The ones i "won" with my "awewsome" strategy (kidding) are:

Securitycameravideos.com, evilcash.com, sextapecash.com, spyonhermobile.com, mobile3dchat.com, pornomobiles.com, imobilecams.com, gossipgonemobile.com.

Again, some i really thought about, some i just wanted because i assumed the keywords in it where nice.

One thing i did to try and find out if the domains where any good, was checking google for the keywords. Lots of results turned up, which i later learned didnt mean a thing because a lot of results doesnt necessary mean the keywords itself are getting a lot of searches. So, there went my "strategy right out of the window again".

Off course i wanted to give it another try and after talking to some experts i learned that "short" domains are sort of a garantee to stay valuable in the future. Good investment i guessed and went for it.

I downloaded the daily delete list, found a three character .com domain and put in my "high offer". The emails came in that the "auction war" would soon begin, and i sattled up my horse. Like a real cowboy and indian adventure the bids where flying. He counterbidded, i recounterbidded faster then my own shadow, and after the sounds of bullets flying died off, i ended up the winner, with a new domain:

2fk.com

Yah, 2fk.com. Aint that something.. maybe not. Because after asking around and proudly uncovering my adventure and "succes" in snapping the 3 character name, i got confused.

Some domainers told me, it was not of a huge value. But some disagreed and thought it actually was a good domain. But always there was this one question: What do you think someone could MAKE of it in the future?

Of course, i thought about it before trying to snap it: 2fk.com, as in 2 fuck!

What do you guys think, did i progress a little from my first steps untill my latest victory?
Are there any good domains in this story? And should i pursue this dream of becoming a "real domainer". Or should i leave it to the experts, and just ask a really real domainer to invest a little part of the money :)

Story to be continued. Feel free to bid on any domains in this thread, i will keep you all informed!

I think you should take a look at how much you've invested so far.

Then look at which domains you think you'd like to develop yourself, and which you'd like to sell.

Then I'd set a max budget to buy new domains with, if you want to spend more, and then make yourself sell some of the ones you bought. Otherwise you'll just keep collecting them.

not bad domains at all, although the market is kinda slow for that right now. Maybe it's good time to buy

CYF 06-04-2009 06:23 PM

Not bad on the domains. Don't get caught up in the thrill of winning auctions and overpay for domains though. Sounds like you're off to a good start, and it was an interesting post. Lookin forward to part 2.

Great story Mr Frisky......look forward to part 2.:thumbsup

I would say to anyone looking to do simlar that the first step is this (vital)

What is your overall plan (a ship doesnt sail without a map does it !)

Are you a short term or long term investor ? Are you a flipper or planning on making use of the domains and later reselling both the domain/site ?

Do you wish to keep domains until you get the price you want or just looking to flip no matter what the profit ? etc etc.....

When buying a name look at what it can be used for ...what market......is that market very active online ....if it can be mainstream or adult it will have more value ...etc

Two of the biggest hardest problems to overcome for most are these.

1.Do not undervalue or overvalue (most do this) a domain

2.Do not fall in love with it ........if a deal comes along..sell it......I see too many people thinking a average domain is worth a bar of gold and in most cases its not.

Hope some of those pointers help ....

Good Luck :)

Ps ..Anyone looking for good mainstream names check out www.A1DomainSales.com or icq me for adult domains

Haha well at first it kinda felt that way, but soon after the confusion smashed in.
Im still not sure if those domains are any good. But at least i began to understand i need to put some thoughts in it "WHAT" someone (or even me) could develop on a domain.

Learning, learning :thumbsup

In times of crisis, when you have sparechange, its always good to shop around.
Dont hope this crisis will last for years though, because some are meant to be sold again :)

Exactly! :thumbsup And that IS what i did the first time. I went alloverboard on trying to WIN from my "competitors" just because of the "winning feeling". But soon after the victorious feeling sank away, i wondered, why the hell did i want that domain again?:disgust:winkwink::1orglaugh

You're a good writer. I read that whole thing. Maybe you should submit short stories to Reader's Digest.

Good luck.

pornguy 06-05-2009 07:25 AM

For the 2FK domain, simply look for a large corporation with that in their name and sell it to them. Might be a bit of work but if you get 10k for it, good for you.

Saw a guy one day proudly post that he had purchased a domain for 8.88 and then 90 days later sold it at 30$. people actually made fun of him. When he made a profit. Ok so he has to sell 15 a day to make a nice living that way, but he is BUILDING his business. Start small, Fuck the haters, and good luck on the new venture.
