Wikileaks leaks 400,000 military documents today. Largest in history!

Quote:

At 5pm EST Friday 22nd October 2010 WikiLeaks released the largest classified military leak in history. The 391,832 reports ('The Iraq War Logs'), document the war and occupation in Iraq, from 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2009 (except for the months of May 2004 and March 2009) as told by soldiers in the United States Army. Each is a 'SIGACT' or Significant Action in the war. They detail events as seen and heard by the US military troops on the ground in Iraq and are the first real glimpse into the secret history of the war that the United States government has been privy to throughout.

The reports detail 109,032 deaths in Iraq, comprised of 66,081 'civilians'; 23,984 'enemy' (those labeled as insurgents); 15,196 'host nation' (Iraqi government forces) and 3,771 'friendly' (coalition forces). The majority of the deaths (66,000, over 60%) of these are civilian deaths. That is 31 civilians dying every day during the six year period. For comparison, the 'Afghan War Diaries', previously released by WikiLeaks, covering the same period, detail the deaths of some 20,000 people. Iraq during the same period, was five times as lethal with equivallent population size.

Too high profile and the idea that assassination of character is better than assassination of person.

Everything I've looked at thus far has been heavily censored.

Contrary to popular belief, Wikileaks does not want to get people killed.

who cares? if they die it will be because of people who started this war...the truth must be told...they might be collateral damage ,what can you do, no one cares when iraqis dies as a collateral damage...

also dont forget - it is someone within army itself who is fed up with this shit and supplied the documents...and not some regular grunt...wikiekas, they are just messenger....what happened to dont kill the messenger?

Sausage 10-22-2010 07:46 PM

This is a hard one.

On one hand it possibly puts troops at risk. On the other hand there has been some pretty fucked up shit done over there, and its always good to have people/countries held accountable for their actions.

Stop repeating the same shit over and over ... close Fox News ...

The whistleblowing activists say they have deleted all names from the documents that might result in reprisals. They were accused by the US military of possibly having "blood on their hands" over the previous Afghan release by redacting too few names. But the military recently conceded that no harm had been identified.

Now, tell me how much blood the US have on THEIR hands ?????

The release of these classified military documents is a real disgrace for the US. It shows that we are growing too weak to defend ourselves from our enemies. That cocksucker Julian Assange should be in a bodybag by now. :disgust

On a related note, for all we know, much of the "leaked" documents may have been intentionally provided to Wikileaks by the U.S. government itself.

There are differing degrees of document classification - are any of the documents "leaked" of the highest classifications of "secret" and "top secret"? I'd wager not...

Anyways, do the documents truly contain much significant information that isn't already known / findable elsewhere?

Don't get me wrong, it's great there are sites like Wikileaks, but am skeptical of the information they're posting / motivations of those who "leak" the info to Wikileaks.

For example, according to a news media report, one of the documents contains info about the "hikers" being held in Iran when captured were on the Iraq side of the border ... ok, but that was already widely publicized in the media months ago ... what wasn't mentioned is why the "hikers" were there to begin with ... are they spies? Or what?

Point is if many of the other documents are like that one, simply mentioning details that were already widely known, then there's likely little to no real new information to be discovered.

Ron

Wikileaks contacted the Pentagone to apparently redact details and names that can expose intelligence/people on the ground

On the flip side we learn of downright disturbing stuff the mainstream media has made no mention of, no surprise

HAHA gota love the nerve on these cunts, accusing Wikileaks of having blood on it's hands for releasing documents detailing their murder of 60 fucking thousand civillians.

If Wikileaks have blood on their hands they are fucking drowning in the blood of Iraqi civilians.

And so fucking what if Americans die as a result of this? 60k Civilians to 3k Americans? The scores need to be a little more balanced, you can't just go into a fucking country on a false pretense, slaughter their fucking population for a decade and get off scott free.

I DEMAND JUSTICE!!!!!!!!!!

MPGdevil 10-23-2010 02:13 AM

Every civilian kill is one too many. There are a lot of things i don't condone by the war, and things that could have been done better. But let's also put things into perspective.

So 66.000 killed civilians during the Iraq War.
How many civilians got killed and tortured by Saddam Hussein?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_r...ein's_Iraq

I hear a lot of critique about the war but what did all the same people do in the period 1979-2003 to help and protect the Iraqi people? And how much did they accomplish?
Weapons of mass destruction or not.. a ruthless dictator is gone which is good.
The sad thing is these people with their religion still live in The Middle Ages and were not prepared for a democracy. Hopefully they will one day experience it though.

I might have agreed with you if the U.S had always been an enemy of Saddam and cared about the people of Iraq BUT..
