Any business advice or questions I can help you with?

I'm in the office taking care of a few things today and have some free time so fire away :winkwink:

CurrentlySober 07-28-2011 12:25 PM

OK. Seriously - After spending way too much time on GFY saying 'I Like Poo' I eventually BOUGHT www.ilikepoo.com

It redirects to a wiki page about poo, but how should I monitize it?

Straight up - What are your thoughts 'Outside the box' (Or outside the pan!)

I dont need to earn money from it straight away. Infact I dont NEED to earn money from it at all.. BUT...
(My Point is...) If YOU NEEDED TO MAKE MONEY FROM IT... What would YOU do ?

Spank Poo in advance for my next business plan... :thumbsup

LOL a subject I know nothing about. Probably a good idea to check out the other sites in that niche and see if they have found any ways to monetize their shit traffic :winkwink:

iamtam 07-28-2011 12:32 PM

how would you do a mobile redirect for the most income?

What type of traffic? Do you need to make money short term or are you interested in long term value?

Fair enough answer. Thanks - However in order to do that, I would need to stop drinking and actually do some proper work for a change.. Which, lets face it... Aint gonna happen... But thanks for replying anyway !

Wow what a great question.

Hard working. I'm not the smartest person however I'm very hard working. There is no limit to how much energy or time I can work.

Passionate. I think one of the key factors to any success I've ever had is how much I care and how passionate I am. Much like my work ethic I don't have any middle speeds. I'm either all in or all out and when I'm all in I pour absolutely everything into it.

Surfing as a surfer. It's important to remove yourself from your position as someone that knows the industry's ins and outs and really become the surfer and identify with what they experience.

I'm not sure if these are personal habits like you were asking if you had something more specific in mind let me know :)

Aren't you currently sober?

If you had $100 to do anything with, what would you do? Must be money making orientated...

The Porn Nerd 07-28-2011 12:55 PM

I won't ask for any advice in this thread Shap but instead shall give you some:

Invest in customizable medical equipment.

Say WHA?

As the Baby Boomers age they will not want to admit it or use what their parents/grandparents used, like those horrible metal walkers and such. No, they will want young-looking "cool" medical equipment: canes that look like lightsabers and wheelchairs that look like nascar, shit like that. If i had millions (or even hundreds of thousands) to invest I would put ALL my money into this. Boomers are in their sixties now, what will they want when they're in their seventies, eighties and beyond? Boomers have all the money and they will continue to be the biggest segment of the population until they're all gone, and you KNOW these sixty year old Boomers are walking around looking and trying to act like they're still thirty. LOL

Oh, I've got tons of mainstream ideas....just need to make the seed money in porn to try them out. But The Shapster could kill it.... :)

Why redirect it? Some of the best advice I've received in the last 2 years came from Adam from WildCash who had a little intervention with me when i was selling and redirecting my mobile traffic. We all know mobile is not going anywhere. So why redirect it away why not build up a mobile entity?

Good idea. I also think services for aging baby boomers is a huge huge market just have to do it right and you can kill it.

$100? Hmmm that's not much money. If $100 was all I had I'd probably hold on to it and wait until I had more money.

Why did you never start a cam site? With your connection to the talent, traffic and money, it would have seemed like a good move for you. If you did start a cam site, I am unaware of it.

Very good question and answer!

I have a question:

If you started Twistys today, using the same methods you used originally, do you think it would have achieved the same success given the current times in our industry?

If not, what would you have done differently?

LeRoy 07-28-2011 01:00 PM

Nice one Shap. So cool of you to keep posting here :thumbsup

Here's mine.

What would be your top 3 suggestions to someone starting out?

AdultKing 07-28-2011 01:01 PM

I have one, what methodology would you use planning succession and what advice would you give someone currently dealing with succession planning ?

cybermike 07-28-2011 01:01 PM

Is it a bad/good idea to put social bookmarking widgets on paysite tours? And what if you have a really weird niche paysite how would you go about making your own sales to it?

We had started moving in that direction this year. I think moving forward adding that live interaction to Twistys would really help justify why someone would become and remain a member of the site.

We tried to stick with what we know best. We didn't know cams and the people I knew that knew cams told me what a pain it was. Potential for huge returns but significant risk and major headaches. So we stayed away. Looking back it would have been a good move if we had allocated the proper resources (financial and human) towards it.

Ever looked at investing in the offshore charter sail boat industry, with your years on the island?

The idea sounds great: Fork over a ton of cash up front, yet start making returns on charters instantly. Or put 25% down, wait 2 years, then get your monthly payouts, saving some cash for later. Both ways you get 6 weeks on the boat, or exchange weeks for other boats around the world, your only cost being plane tickets. That part is like a time share basically.

The boat's are refurbished after 5 years and can be sold or sold to a smaller fleet. Either way, your money is made back, and then some, before this point.

I'm rather interested in doing this, so the question is. Do I do it sooner, while the eco is down and boats are cheaper, but forcing me into the 25% buy unless I have partners, or wait a few years, save my pennies, and buy the boat outright so I make it all up front? Both directions end benefits are pretty much the same.

I know you didn't ask me this question but here's my two cents anyway, if, as you say, the benefits are about the same (25% vs. waiting and buying it all):

Never, ever wait. DO IT NOW. One never knows the future, Obi Wan...:)

What would I do differently? It wouldn't be a babes site :1orglaugh:1orglaugh Honestly babes are the bitchiest niche to sell. There is a reason why very few companies ever came along after us in the babe market and had any success. It's expensive to shoot and branding is a major factor in the overall success.

Obviously starting Twistys with new non exclusive content and promoting it entirely with no bought traffic (all affiliate based and internal traffic sources) and on tgps only is not an option today. Nobody produces enough new non exclusive content the way matrix did and you can't rely on affiliates or tgp traffic to grow a business. So taking your question literally that method would not work today.

That said the true method we used to succeed was developing a brand that was built around caring for it's customers. Would that work today? Hell yeah! :thumbsup

kane 07-28-2011 01:23 PM

I've always been curious of this. How did you get started in this business and what were the first sites you created? I think it would be interesting to hear how the Twisty's Empire was born.

With respect, and not trying to derail Shaps thread, that is 'INSIDE' the box thinking...

I was looking for 'OUTSIDE' the box... :thumbsup

Just to be sure we are on the same page you are referring to stepping back and letting somebody take over your business and running it for you?

Thanks for your reply, Shap. The times have definitely changed. Catering to customers will always be king, though it would definitely take a much larger up front investment in today's market.

It's not a niche I understand....but

Hot girls (or whoever) can sell their poo on the site, perhaps pooBay with bidding. You take a cut of all sales

I can imagine there are people out there who would buy the poo from a hot girl or from a guy pretending to be a hot girl

Unfortunately, the legalities of sending human waste via the post, negate this as a possibility... (I have previously looked into it) However, its along the right track :)

Thanks :thumbsup

Hi Shap,

Big admirer of what you've done in the industry! For now I have far smaller ambitions to yourself. I'd be grateful for any tips you have on improving the profits of my main affiliate site http://www.wehateporn.com

It currently pays all our bills and a bit more, but it would be nice to aim to double that

Thanks in advance :thumbsup

Here's mine.

What would be your top 3 suggestions to someone starting out?

I've been thinking about this lately. One tip I'd have for anybody starting their own business is to first really know how much you are willing to sacrifice for that business. That includes everything. Time, financial, emotional etc. When i started out I didn't have the financial means to do anything. I was a college kid with a few hundred dollars and my dad's computer. What I was willing to sacrifice was my personal time and social life. I was determined to make it big and was willing to give up as much as it took to get there. My goal when I started was to never have to work for anyone every again. So first and foremost you have to know how much you are willing to sacrifice and then be reasonable with your expectations in potential and speed of growth. If you have no money that is a limitation. If you have no time another limitation. Being reasonable and setting challenging yet attainable goals is important.

Write out your goals and business plan. I never did this but that doesn't make it right :1orglaugh Once you have that you'll have your blueprint. It will force you to clearly identify what you are going to do, who your competition is, how you will be different, how you will disrupt your market space etc.

Don't just copy someone else. You have to have something that makes you better or more viable. You have to have some competitive advantage no matter how big or how small. If possible try to create something that is somewhat unique. You don't have to reinvent the wheel but having your own unique flavor goes a long way.

BareBacked 07-28-2011 02:49 PM
