Peaceful female protestors penned in the street and maced!

While on a peaceful march near Union Square in downtown Manhattan, multiple female protestors were penned up in the street by orange mesh baricade, then maliciously maced.

The women were peaceful and unarmed. They were secured by barricade with an overwhelming police presence. And they were then sprayed directly in the face with pressurized mace...

WarChild 09-25-2011 09:54 AM

Pepper spray and mace are not the same thing.

alias 09-25-2011 09:55 AM

Not so tough now are they.

BlackCrayon 09-25-2011 09:59 AM

boneprone 09-25-2011 10:06 AM

In highschool we used mace the bumbs at night. Its actually quite fun. No actual harm really becomes of it. Electric Stunguns and smelling salts on the drunk/passed out ones can be fun as well.

Good times.

CaptainHowdy 09-25-2011 10:09 AM

Free to be maced as well ...

Slambino 09-25-2011 11:15 AM

If they were black woman do you think they would have penned and maced them?

It may well be a brand of pepperspray, but when you say you maced somebody or got maced, you're talking about chemical mace not a brand of pepper spray.

Much in the same way as you shoot somebody, not glock them.

Additionally, you have no idea what brand the police were using. To be specific you would say they got pepper sprayed. Saying it was mace is trying to elevate the level of outrage because real mace is a nasty fucking substance.

Chemical Mace is a tear gas in the form of an aerosol spray which propels a lachrymatory agent mixed with a volatile solvent. It is sometimes used as a self-defense device. This form of Mace is legal in very few countries, thus its use is becoming uncommon.

I can tell by most of your posts that you don't really have any substanial life experience so let me fill you in a little bit. There's a world of difference between pepper spray and mace.

Please just shut the fuck up already you moron. Thanks in advance.

Just a quick look on Google gives the impression there is more to the story than what the YouTuber wrote. Imagine that.

What wait a second here. You mean just a few minutes of footage might not be representative of the entire incident? No that can't be right!!

a quick look on google reveals this-
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/835...ng-nyc-protest
http://absolutewrite.com/forums/show....php?p=6581668
http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2011/...rotesters.html
http://www.presstv.ir/usdetail/201142.html

which all conclude "The protesters were not violent at all, but a number of women were maced in the face with pepper-spray by police despite the peaceful nature of the rally."

so that pretty much tells the story unless you have some specifc articles which say differently.

Well, let's take a look at your first link:

The "Occupy Wall Street" protest, which is entering its second week, is a movement against bank bailouts, the mortgage crisis and Georgia's execution of Troy Davis.

Demonstrators are attempting to take over Manhattan's Union Square, emulating what Egyptian protestors did by taking over the main square in Cairo in anti-government protests earlier this year.

About 80 people were arrested as protestors marched through lower Manhattan yesterday. Police said the majority of arrests were made for blocking traffic.

Other charges included disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and one person was charged with assaulting a police officer.

Sorry, but your 40 seconds of video is not telling the entire story. :2 cents:

semantics. right wingers always love to deflect the reality by pointing to, in this case, whether or not it was pepper spray or mace.
not the point. point was peaceful protestors were attacked by the goon squad.
but hey, all that "right to assemble peacefully" doesn't mean squat to real amerikans;)

I guess you think free speech means being able to yell "fire" in a crowded theater as well.

and as i just said "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" doesn't mean anything to real amerikans;)

it's just that damn constitution, piece of paper really.

baddog 09-25-2011 01:35 PM

I forgot, that 40 seconds of video was a time lapse of the entire day, right? You do not have ANY idea what went on that required the actions that resulted, do you?

Yep, the goons arrested a woman just for filming them roughing up a protestor. In public.
That is what they call "disorderly conduct."

WarChild 09-25-2011 01:38 PM

So if me and a bunch of my friends decided to peacefully assemble in front of your house, blocking you from entering your house then the police should be able to come and ask us to move, but if we won't, too bad for you?

Your rights always end where mine begin. You have the right to assemble and demonstrate, you don't have the right to block my usage of a public street in the process. See how that works?

Of the event in question, all witnesses were saying the women were protesting peacefully and the cops attacked them. Do you think before that video clip the women were attacking the cops and they were just trying to defend themselves? :winkwink:

DWB 09-25-2011 01:40 PM

That will teach them to protest.

Spunky 09-25-2011 01:42 PM

The riot squad should have been called

That is amazing. How were you able to talk to all the witnesses in such a short span of time? You have mad skills and should probably become a private detective or investigative reporter.

One of the largest irresponsible cluster fucks in US history, and it goes completely unpunished. However, the people protesting it block traffic, and the majority of them are arrested.

Love it. :thumbsup

Really? Were you there and saw how everything went down especially leading up to that point? Do you make it a point of buying into all the propaganda you view?

What I saw in that video was a protester attacking the cops. Can't tell from the video but from the size of the person etc, I would assume it was a woman. If she was part of that group that had been "penned" up, then it's not exactly a stretch to assume that the cops felt that some of the others could get violent if they were being as belligerent as that one probably had been. Anyone that takes part in a protest has to be prepared for the possible outcome if things get ugly and take responsibility for the fact that they put themselves in that situation knowing full well what could happen.
