Moving to China - Beijing
 

I am moving to Beijing in a couple of months and I will be representing a couple of mainstream enterprises in there. I am learning "chinese" also.
Do you guys think I should represent western adult companies in there? porn is not legal in China, but making contacts with other companies/webmasters is legal.

I would suggest not right away though I'm interested where you'd turn up with this. Do take care though. They have stringent laws that might land you in jail or worse.

I have a great life, i am moving there for sentimental reasons, and i DONT want to go to prison for sure :)
I was just thinking i representing some adult companies in there for BUROCRATIC work, investments, contacts and stuff like that. It can be mainstream contacts, that would be the ideal.
Let say, if playboy wants to get in touch with some other big company in there I could make the first approach. Everything WITHIN the China law, ZERO tolerance.

Oh, about the freedom etc... I've been there last september, and I can say I saw plenty of freedom in there :) I guess the only problem in there is the politics, all the rest is pretty much the same i saw around the world.... I never saw so many porsches, Maseratis, bentleys, ferraris, etc. in one city like in beijing - And I have traveled in all major cities in the world.
Capitalism arrived to China, just in case nobody noticed. Seeing to believe it :)

The last group of porn WEBMASTERS who were caught in China were given 7 years in prison. They did not shoot content, they were only webmasters.

But if you don't mind that, mingle with them and let us know how it all turns out.

The question itself is absurd considering what penalties are in China.

It's not capitalism, it's corruption. Yes there are a ton of fine cars parked outside the clubs there but it is certainly not an indicator of development. When you see a Porsche with military plates how do you think the owner can afford that on their $700 a month officers salary.

Never ever talk about porn or any other illegal activity in a place like China. The locals love to shake down foreigners there.

Mainstream Internet Business and webmastering is HUGE in CHINA... I think they are many years ahead of American webmasters in terms or mainstream marketing.

One quesion that I couldn't find the answer in google.
If i check the backoffice of my adult sites in China inside my house, will the government know it?
I know they check the traffic and BLOCK the sites for the whole China, but if I access the back office that would be like a "normal user" and I imagine there are millions of people accessing "not blocked" porn sites (there are many, only 30% of adult sites are blocked there, i believe, I accessed GFY from China also) so that would be a "not risky" action? I really don't know.... and If i am not sure, I will not even view a single naked girl pic in there :)

About living in Beijing, I know it's not the best, but it's where i must go now. I loved Shanghai (great city with super night life) and I am going to prospect Honk Kong and.. MACAU - Which is great because the official papers in there are also in portuguese, and I speak portuguese.

I guess after learning chinese I can dedicate to marketing and SEO in China (in one year). I will work there in the import/export area, but I want to keep in touch with the "online biz", so if you guys have any interest in China, let me know, maybe we can do biz :) It's a great place to make money!!

its pretty ok to just access your backoffice especially with a VPN.. all expats in China use VPN services to circumvent all the blocked sites... like you probably know FB , Twitter, Youtube, and a bunch of other normal mainstream sites are blocked in China so you need a VPN for that


but even without a VPN it should be fine to access non blocked porn sites... they are not going to arrest you for looking at porn .. the only thing they will arrest you for is running adult sites on chinese servers or marketing sites towards a chinese speaking audience

so whatever you do, don't start translating your sites into chinese to try and get some $$$ out of chinese surfers this could potentially get you into a lot of problems if you are living in china :2 cents:

as for adult webmastering, i brought a laptop to just maintain my sites when i was there. Used a free VPN service which worked perfectly, cant remember which it was though... almost every hotel has internet. Didnt have any probs at all. Then again i didn't go round and tell everybody i was working on adult sites.

shanghai is fake, made for tourists, beijing is much more real.
