Over 1 Million Killed by Guns in US Since John Lennon was Shot

Quote:

Wednesday would have been John Lennon and Yoko Ono?s 44th wedding anniversary. To honor the date, Ono, 80, decided to make a statement about gun violence so she tweeted a photo of John Lennon?s bloody glasses
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BFzCSFyCMAAHTGk.jpg

The image was an old photo of the glasses her husband John Lennon wore the night he was killed. The left side of the glasses is covered in John's blood, and the right side had some splattering on it:

"The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience," Ono tweeted. "After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him."

Mexico is a third world country. Anyhow I'm pretty sure the point she was making is its disgusting the amount of lives guns have taken.

so you're comparing accidents to homicides? wow :helpme

CDSmith 03-22-2013 03:20 PM

Killed by guns. So, the guns themselves did the killing? No people using them, just the guns?

Now THAT is truely insane.

MakingItPay 03-22-2013 03:22 PM

That includes suicides, right? Love that little trick.

You cannot compare firearms to automobiles. Automobiles are created and used for transportation, while firearms are used to kill people.

You can live without firearms. You cannot live without automobiles. You do not need a rifle to hunt; You can hunt using a bow and arrow. But without automobiles food would not be available at your local grocery story.

Every day every American uses or eats something transported on a car or truck, while some Americans will go their entire lives without ever having to touch a firearm. My wife drives every day of her life, but has never touched a firearm.

You can't compare firearm deaths to automobile deaths. Firearm deaths are usually intentional, while automobile deaths are always accidents.

And most of them come from the U.S. You know that right? :thumbsup

So should we double+ that stat with and *?

Vendzilla 03-22-2013 10:27 PM

1.2 million committed suicide, how many used a gun?

Vendzilla 03-22-2013 10:59 PM

according to the CDC, in 2010 19,392 Suicides by firearm
Now do a little math
19,000 x 32 years = 608,000

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/suicide.htm

CDC says in 2010 11,078 homicide by firearm, 16,259 total homicides
do a little math
11,000 x 32 years = 352,000

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/homicide.htm

So about 2/3's of the firearm killings is self inflicted

Ringo 03-22-2013 11:37 PM

imagine all that people
