OK, so I'm obviously aware of the meaning of BBW - However back in 98 / 99 it also used to mean 'Beautiful Black Woman'

I remember this cause I asked a 'BBW' at the time, who emailed me looking for work, and she got really offended... :Oh crap

Has anyone else ever heard of this 'Forgotten Meaning' or was it JUST ME?

I thought it meant Big Bowel Withdrawal

Maybe people used it to describe that.

But BBW as Big Beautiful Woman goes back to the late 70s.

I mean that in a genuine way... I think that the 1st time I heard BBW it stood for Black' and I just kinda wondered outloud, if it DID used to mean that, before the internet, then kinda got changed or not...

Big Beautiful Woman is more recognized but parallel to that some people have used it as Beautiful Black Woman. It is used less but now and then comes up in a confusion of the terms. For a bit last year, BBW terms on Twitter were also getting BasketBall Wives because of that VH1 show.

Candyflip is correct about BBW being used for longer than most here know and certainly longer than before it became a porn term. I bought my first copy of BBW magazine, which coined the phrase, in the late 80's. It is no exaggeration that my life path changed that day.

The times and slang have changed a bit:

BBW - Big Beautiful Woman
BBBW - Big Beautiful Black Woman
SSBBW - Super-Sized BBW
PAWG - Phat Ass White Girl

Some history gather round. The term was created by the woman who created bbw pantyhose, later she started a magazine named dimensions. She trademarked the term and when she sold the magazine the trademark went with it. Be grateful he never decided to exercise it.

I thought Carole Shaw coined it. I know Dimensions rather well, and I thought it started after BBW Magazine. I had a subscription in my late teens to both but clearly Dimensions was more sexually driven. I'm not the biggest fan of Conrad but I appreciate that the magazine was there when I was discovering the community.

I also remember the pantyhose and they were sold in the magazine.

Wonder what every happened to Radiance ..that was a pretty empowering publication back in that period.

That issue is still floating around somewhere at my parent's place.

All photos of me back then have been burned as a service to hair and fashion protection.

As pitiful as it sounds, the 36 year old version of SJ is much better than the 16 year old version. Not the least because I am no longer governed by my mother's rules for hairstyling. :)
