Attention LA County pet owners

Two weeks ago my daughter's two Golden Retrievers died; yesterday we discovered it was probably due to the City of Los Angeles' Parks & Recreation Department. Please read and share this story via any social media platform you use. If you take your dog on any of the popular hiking paths, they are at risk.

Thanks in advance.

Beautiful looking dogs,a real shame.RIP

Vendzilla 06-25-2014 05:35 PM

Damn shame. idiots in the government that approved the usage of that rat poison!!

Mutt 06-25-2014 05:46 PM

Heartbreaking, goldens are beautiful inside and out. If they were poisoned at the dog park there must be many more victims. If not, they must have contacted it somewhere else.

:(

PornDiscounts-V 06-25-2014 05:46 PM

Damn! All too often they tell us you can't use this poison to control nature. As in don't throw a moss poison into the pond at a park. But then they do it with this rat poison?

Change. Org petition?

They were poisoned by the city and yeah, if you read my article you will see that victims are actually local stars; like P-22.

Terrible news Lloyd. I read the story on that beautiful mountain lion up at the Griffith observatory eating that shit too. This is terrible. So sorry to hear.

We no longer take Jaxon to ANY public parks or dog parks. He has contracted pink eye on two occasions and after reading some other stories like your's, we refuse to have him put in danger. We now pay 25.00 a day so he can go to a doggie day care and socialize with dogs in a controlled area.

Very sorry to hear this news. Poor doggies.

seeric 06-25-2014 06:05 PM

Oh, and........

Class Action.

I have sent your link several dog clubs, trainers, and associations in California that I know. If one county is doing it, it is very possible that many others are doing the same shit.

I have also posted on a very popular dog forum that I am a member of.

Zuzana Designs 06-25-2014 06:12 PM

Very sorry to hear about this. Very sad :( My condolences to you and your family.

brassmonkey 06-25-2014 06:17 PM

thats messed up she didnt see the doggs eating it? this stuff is not just lying on the ground :2 cents: maybe a rat took it out of the trap. :2 cents: you can find these kind of traps behind your local stores.

bronco67 06-25-2014 06:29 PM

Those idiots who thought this was a good idea should be shot. That had to be the toughest thing to go through. If that happened to my boy, I'd probably be in bed for a week curled up in a ball.

Elli 06-25-2014 06:31 PM

Oh that's terrible :( I'm so sorry to hear about your family's dogs! What a sad story :(

L-Pink 06-25-2014 06:54 PM

Wow, I can only imagine how she felt, such beautiful friends lost at the same time.

Supz 06-25-2014 07:26 PM

wow. terrible. sorry to hear that bud.

Ity is just left on the ground; it isn't like they have roach motels set up for rats. To be honest. one of the popular trails she used to let her dogs off leash; at one point Sunday they went out of sight for a moment and when they returned she was pretty sure thay had eaten something, but fuck, my dog is CONSTANTLY eating shit he finds on the street; he is like a fucking 2 year old or a Hoover vacuum. This is one of the MANY reasons I hate fucking cat ladies that feel the need to feed feral cats. My dog knows exactly where that shit is going to be. And there is no reason to expect the city to be putting out poison

LightscapeMedia 06-25-2014 10:41 PM

Why the hell are they trying to kill rodents where they're supposed to be anyways? "Don't come into our homes.. oh.. and the forest is off limits too!"

No shit; and then they wonder why bobcats and bears come into their neighborhoods to eat their puppies and kitties. I was blown away when I heard they had an extermination program in the wilderness.

Last year we were hiking regularly in Kenneth Hahn Park near Sony. Once in awhile I would get a strong whiff of peanut butter and wonder, "somebody drop a sandwich?" Now I know. We were hiking in and around poison meant to kill animals living in their normal habitat. Thanks for telling us about this. Any plans for joining any kind of lawsuit?

2MuchMark 06-25-2014 11:51 PM

sorry for your loss, BD. That's a really sad and fucked up story. I'd be furious and be crying my eyes out at the same time. I hope your daughter fights and wins.

Well, we just discovered this a little over 24 hours ago; my daughter is pretty well connected with the legal field so we are looking into the possibility of recovering damages (a bunch of people started a fund to help her cover expenses) but right now the mail goal is stopping the practice of using poison to kill wildlife.

baddog 06-26-2014 09:28 AM

bump to get the word out

seeric 06-26-2014 10:43 AM

edit: dupe post.

see graphic in story. so irresponsible by the city/county/state.

seeric 06-26-2014 10:50 AM

yah, what the morons don't realize is that the bobcats, coyotes, bears, and anything else that kills each other in the wild will fucking eat the animals that are eating the poison. just wait till the bald eagles in other parts of california start to eat animals that have eaten poison. or the california condor an endangered species does the same. these idiots are completely pissing in the face of nature and should back off and halt any pesticide placements. this really fires me up.

id get it into small claims. you can get the value of the doggs. city will be hell to collect from tho. maybe start a kickstarter page and ask the city to donate money to replace her friends. would be quicker than court. send a link of kickstarter page to the mayor and news outlets :)

_Richard_ 06-26-2014 10:58 AM

that is one fucked up story

Sorry wont work...animals are considered property, you may recover what you paid for the animal but you cant get punitive damages.

Sucks...yup

What does Class Action have to do with punitive damages?

I was reading reports yesterday of birds of prey just falling from the sky due to illness attributed to eating poisoned rodents.

_Richard_ 06-26-2014 12:00 PM

hey, what sort of bylaws do you have for your county?

in vancouver, we have a simple warning: 'Please use these according to the label instructions and place them in areas inaccessible to children, pets and wildlife.'

I am curious if there is already laws in place where you are locally preventing this?

This is not about raising money; for the record I mentioned this at our local city council meeting on Tuesday evening; by the time I left the chief of the fire department was waiting for me because his wife had been watching live on TV and she wanted to get involved. I sent him a copy of my article yesterday. This morning he informed me that he had reached out to an LA City Councilman to start things moving.

My daughter's friends set up a fund to help with expenses within hours of hearing the girls were sick.

LightscapeMedia 06-26-2014 01:43 PM

Still what gives anyone the right to kill any animal (aside from hunting of course), rodent or otherwise, when that animal is living where it's supposed to be living? My god humans are arrogant.

kool did you go and take pictures of the poison at the park with time stamp?

Rochard 06-26-2014 02:02 PM

Sorry for your loss.

I'm confused - are you saying that the city of LA (County, whatever) put out rat poison at parks where.... Not only dogs could eat them but children as well?

It's this just a massive lawsuit waiting to happen?
