What FTP program are you using?

I've used CuteFTP for years with no problem, but recently it's been dropping the transfer. I have to upload massive sites, and I can't sit here babysitting the transfer. If I'm uploading a site that's 1GB, it freezes up at least 10 times during transfer. I have to force close and then pray it picks up where it left off.

I used Filezilla in the past with decent results, but there's an exploit in their site manager. Unless they fixed that, I want to avoid them as well. Learned the hard way when all my sites got hijacked. Wasn't fun.

Filezilla.

I used Filezilla for years until a bunch of my sites got exploited. They were injecting this little bullshit php redirect that caused my sites to red flag. After going 10 rounds with my host, I finally figured it found it. Filezilla was saving site passwords in a plain text file, and it was being exploited. I'm not sure if they still do it, if not, I'll switch back. But if they still do, then fuck that shit. I'm not playing that game again.

WinSCP is nice... Occasionally, I'll use Webmin java file manager by tunneling using Putty. Good for setting permissions, moving files, uploading etc...

update: now they use base64 encode to store passwords, still sucks. i guess. but who were injecting little php redirect ?
was it filezilla or some other trojan who found the password file ?

They were installing some .ru redirect. Never got around to check what it actually did, it just added a really long line of php at the end of my index page...on all my sites. Imagine a day where all of your client's sites get the "Malicious Code is Installed" red screen of death. Wasn't a pretty day.

NaughtyVisions 09-15-2015 07:22 PM

I'm still using CuteFTP Home 7.2 Works fine for me so I never bother upgrading...lol.

Rob 09-15-2015 07:22 PM

I just did a quick search and it was some sort of iframe attack.

Most of the stuff I've read was around when I stopped using it. Maybe they fixed it?

I see them base64 encoded under AppData\Romaing\recentservers.xml, however you can easily decode them at https://www.base64decode.org/

Filezilla here.

I've been using FTP Voyager for years... probably ten. I switched from CuteFTP over to wsFTP and then once I tried FTP Voyager, that was the one for me, more especially as I use serv-U for a local Intranet. In recent years, FTP Voyager was included as part of the acquisition by SolarWinds, and they've made FTP Voyager free.

I use the scheduler function a LOT to retrieve files, such as reports, I generate on the servers each night. FTPVoyager fires up on a schedule i set, oopen a connection to the server, and retrieve the files I want.
