I Need A Job

Hi everyone. I'm a longtime member here and currently in need of a job. I did browse the "Now Hiring" section but I've never had much luck there. All the ads want to pay the least amount. Even saw an ad that read "$5/hour." Do any of you have any by the hour legitimate work available? At least 30 hours a week? Some of my skillsets are basic web development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Wordpress). Currently learning React. I'm up for other types of work, though. But that is my current concentration. Thanks.

Good luck!

Depending on where you live you might want to try locally. I've picked up some extra work easily by helping local companies with their website/it/socialmedia/seo/marketing. There seems to be never ending demand for that type of work if you ask around. It's helping out while I build my next big mainstream project.

Yeah - Make a business card and head to the local bar, get chatting and hand it out - You will be amazed...

So many want sites and either don't know where to start or can't be bothered - You sit there like you know what you are doing and they will bite.....

The online business is booming, while online porn shrinks. Erect a site appealing to local small businesses then go door knock with a laptop to display what you can do. Nothing beats the personal touch.

You will be surprised, but here you can employ Ukrainians for even lesser money and they will do the job (copywriting, graphics/design, web development, coding etc) much better than 90% of "established webmasters" here.

Course as an alternative you can employ the Hindus, but most of them are lazy, uneducated and thievish. So don't expect a good result from such "employees"...

sure and i think it is completely legit to ask for the best work for the lowest possible price.
even trump does that by employing illegal mexicans at his golf courses and even help them to get the false papers.

but another thing that nobody looks at is that global trade already exists on services since more than 20 years and works fine (and it can not be stopped by any wall)

I was using a text service from some indians for german websites and they are that good skilled that their german is better than the german of most germans.
you are right when you say that they are hard to find but they exist. and the natural evolution of the market is forcing the bad ones to become better or die.

thatīs why from the perspective of the losers all is going down from the perspective of the winners all goes up.

actually mow is the best time in decades for people with skills and will to work to make extremely good money. but the worst time for uneducated lazies because this kind of services you can find much cheaper all over the world.

Yep indians are no good, even indians trashing indians :1orglaugh Philipinos are much better choice if you want cheapest possible work force. And yes ukraine is also one of best choices when it comes to quality/price ratio.A lot of adult companies have remote employees there.

Thanks. With freelance, it seems like PHP/Wordpress is best for that. I'm on the fence with my learning path. With JS track, you can work remote but I don't think it would be easy to work freelance. At least not early on.

Walrus. If you try to get business from your office/home you will have to compete with every cheap ass who is online and many living in countries where $5 an hour is a good wage. As this thread proves.

So get out and use my method of contacting people face to face. Build sites online showing what YOU can do for THEM, then go knock on doors. Offer to replace their existing site or build them a new site. You need to display YOUR talents and what you can do.

Getting in front of prospective clients eliminate the competition who can't. So eliminates all the Ukrainian, Indian, Philippine, etc.

Respectfully I disagree. Regardless of the country the OP is living in, he or she can put their skills to use and build one or more fully functioning websites with a particular niche industry in mind (ie: dentist, insurance agent, automotive repair, landscape, pool maintenance, etc.). They can reach out to that category of business owners, who either do not have a website, or whose site is outdated, and offer them their services.

That sounds great when you put it that way. Do you have experience doing that? Maybe we have different ideas of what that means.

Knocking on doors? Hell no. I have been down that road, and it was a huge waste of resources. And that was when a lot of businesses still didn't have websites.

Talking to people face to face is great, but if you get in your car and go cold knocking on businesses doors. Plan not to only be told no, but plan to have some doors slammed in your face. If you researched these businesses before hand... great, that's probably a better plan, but then again... we are talking about time and resources.

I suggest to the OP to attend some businesses networking events. Join a business networking weekly group. FB friends and family, etc. Cold knocking.. No.

Signup with a freelance employment agency. If you're in LA, there are a number of them around. If you know how to build websites, try Creative Circle.

What is a freelance agency?

Does't seem to be any opportunities for web developer or web designer on creativecircle. They don't list those types of jobs.

1st step is a site that contains the sites that illustrate your skills. You need a few different options showing the different options you offer. This would help here as well, but Adult isn't a growing industry and mainstream is.

Then good old fashioned door knocking. You want the person in charge of their online promoting. He/she is the person who needs convincing. But before you sell find out what they have, what it does and what they want it to do. A good salesman uses his ears more than his mouth.

How you go door knocking depends on your area.

Research the subject and learn.

What happens if he knows nothing about those industries, what if the site he erects is wrong, how do you offer people your services without knowing the right name to approach.

Sample sites should just be pages ready to be filled with each individual clients needs. Or do you advocate he spams industry sites?

Hourly work is a good way if you are coder only. IMHO. You will not get any hourly jobs without any Fixed done.
all other types of job better to do as Fixed Price Projects with milestones.
Try to search out top rated freelancer's profiles, Create a nice and simple portfolio and profile information. Use youtube for each step to know how to use it better!
When i started a job on Upwork I spent 2 (TWO FUCKING MONTHS) to get my first fucking order.
Now clients find me themselves on Upwork, so 1-2 projects in the week (logo design) for 100-150$ each are real.

You trash real life networking among mainstream local businesses, something that will get you 10 times more return both in amount of jobs as in the amount of money per hour.

Then you say you're actually looking for work yourself and that your last assignment made you $2 per hour.

You're one to give advice :1orglaugh

LOL..

In the past year I have built about 8 sites. 2 mainstream and 6 adult. (no bro, they are not on geocities) The one mainstream site was a huge project and took about 5 months.

My comment was based upon the site Upwork and cold knocking "door to door"...which was a waste of time. And as I mentioned to another poster here.. we may have different opinions of what that is.

I have always had respect for your work, and that's the response I get from you? I wasn't a dick to you, I just disagree. I just think there is a more productive way to go than cold knocking.

How did you get your models? Did you go knocking door to door? How did that work out for you?

No I agree.. Upwork is going to take some work. I only started on there about a week ago.. and the first job should have taken 5 mins... but turned into more than a couple hours of "teaching" so I could complete the job. Wasn't the best experience, but I'm not done there at all. I know that site is going to take some patience.

No, I did not trash real life networking. Look, I am not someone who just stopped working for McDonalds. I have been self employed for 25 years. I have went door to door, and in retrospect, it was the least profitable, and the most inefficient way to land jobs building 'websites' for people.

Finding models and getting business building websites B2B are two totally different things.

The moment you have to rely on a website to find business you're competing on price.

Door knocking isn't as simple as it sounds and in some locales not good at all. However for most areas it's perfect. If all you get is a compliment slip and the name of the man to approach, that's fine. Follow it up with a phone call, with a rehearsed "speech". That explains Who you are, What you can do for them and most importantly What's in it for them. You can do it initially on the phone by cold calling and asking the receptionist who is in charge of the companies online profile/site. Then asking if he's free and if not ask when he will be free.

Using the methods you are using aren't working for you. You'll get 2-3 hour jobs at $5-$10 an hour. Go for the big ones.

Where is your site hosting what you have done?

^^^ this... with Indians! So you are really at the bottom of the barrel.

I'd like to add that networking in your own circle of acquaintances will get you a flying start, this is the most effective way. If you deliver good work, people will flock to you without you having to do any effort yourself. I see it all around me with people i know who started for themselves as well.
Also a personal example, i did some SEO for someone as a favor because nowadays I don't do it anymore for other people. People ask her, how did your site get those good positions? She asked me if i wanted more clients, because the people in her business network keep asking her. Since i don't like doing SEO work and i don't need it i declined, but if i wanted to i would have lots of new monthly returning income from SEO clients. And those people also all have their own network so you'll get even more clients. Local network, local economy (good money), so incomparable to the crumbs you get when competing with indians.
