My favorite of ours is http://www.boymodelsaustralia.net .... clean, simple and effective...

My favorite of all time is http://www.discohoes.com (make sure your sound is up high!!!), fully flash and 70's retro funky...

Our best flash effort is http://www.xxxviewing.net

spooky181 09-28-2003 03:15 AM

If it converts good its a good design if it converts great its a great design. My site www.cheatingxxxwife.com was originally designed by a pro but it just didn't convert all that well. So I redid it myself, and I know its not a professional looking design but it now converts great and thats all that matters, and to me that makes it a great design..:glugglug

Spooky

Ozzymosis1 09-28-2003 03:21 AM

ive heard from more and more people that simple less proffesinal designs convert better.

Is there any truth to this?

I guess that makes my point about everyone's got different opinions - this design isn't my fav, but some people like this style, that designer is awesome though at doing different designs, most of the time I don't let him 'do what he wants' - but if you want something different, let me know, he can whip up something you could not imagine :)

To be totally honest with you - for some sites, I think there is a certain truth to this - for example amateur sites or certain reality styles, they look a lot more convincing if they're not as polished.

However many of the 'less proffesional' designs I see are exactly that - their buttons are hard to see or are in obscure places, the pages are difficult to navigate or don't work in netscape...
So less proffesional designs still have to be made with a certain level of knowledge & quality I'd say :2 cents:

In my experience a tradesman is only as good as the instructions he is given.

Having done many in-house and also contracted out just as many my experience is that you are clear about what you want in the first place, a good designer rocks.

The best "amateurish" designs are done by pros who WANT them to look that way :thumbsup

Only good things to say about Blue Design's work...

It's like they say, more times than not it's a bad client, not a bad provider.

deffantly not a niche that im into, but it has a good looking design.

Mutt 09-28-2003 03:58 AM

nice skillz on display but go to that 'TeenPassions' design - this is a teen niche site and look at the model chosen as the main focal point.

http://www.wantongirls.com/notateen.jpg

a 23 year old with fake tits?

http://www.amkingdom.com
http://www.karupspc.com
http://www.alsscan.com
http://www.teendreams.com
http://www.teenflood.com

5 of the top teen sites on the Net, the first three are in a league of their own. notice anything?

did the client choose that photo or he left it up to you?

design is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay overrated - no, wrong, design is not over rated, Photoshop wizardry is what is over rated.

aimar78 09-28-2003 04:02 AM

http://www.bangbrosworldwide.com/

I like this type of design, focuses on the content and doesnt use unnecessary graphical flash.

As opposed to a design like:

http://www.privategold.com/

This style of design has been WAY over-used IMHO. Too much graphical flash and a bunch of random pictures representing content, the whole thing is just a sliced photoshop image.

That seems to be what 99% of the designers are doing....

Mutt 09-28-2003 04:11 AM

OxCash were way out in front on not only content but design as well. Their first site RealButts is the site people are still copying three or four years later.

Love those huge pix on the WorldWide tour, the content sells the site not the Photoshop chops of a designer.

Thats right, Ozzy :)
But please understand, we cannot make anything amateurish. Webdesign is all about something new, like a concept car. It won't look as good as that well used Honda Civic :winkwink:

Mostly convertion depends on the surfer.
If he comes from Search Engines he'll probably sign up under fancy webdesign.
But if you're having a surfer that comes from TGPs he'll need something real, like bangbus.com Because he's seen 'em all a lot already.

You can have fancy design and shitty traffic. Design alone won't help you.

What I'm saying is fancy design doesn't guarantee sales.

A complicated design can confuse the surfer.

Simple design, easy navigation, and strong sales process will work well.

Some very simple and amateur looking sites are making a stack of sales.

The surfer doesn't give a shit about design, only about what they're going to get in the site.

The only people that design impresses is other webmasters, and they're not the target market anyway, so it's pointless.

Fucking A dude!!!

I have always told my guys to "think like a punter"..

I don't give a goddamn if another designer/webmaster looks and picks holes through the "technical" aspects.

All I care about is the punter ripping out that credit card and letting our content do the rest......

Awards and design kudos don;t pay the rent.

Not true. If you walk into a shitty looking site I would bet that you won't get your credit card out. If it looks lame you won't. But psychologically if you'd run into a MEGAPORTAL THAT HAS 250,000,000 PICS and shit like that you'd probably sign up.

Webdesign is like a magazine cover. Would you buy a shitty looking magazine?

res 09-28-2003 05:59 AM

I think we have not bad design, really not bad. Just look at us: http://www.divashow.com.

You miss my point.

The surfer doesn't give any thought to design.

If it looks professional and is easy to navigate, they'll probably just look at the pictures and then reach for their CC.

What impresses other webmasters does not necessarily work for the surfer.

Peer recognition is all very nice, but it doesn't pay the rent.

It's like companies that win awards for creative advertising. Oftentimes, the advertising didn't actually result in an increase in sales (or a measurable one anyway). But it impressed some committe, and that's all that really matters. :Graucho

shima 09-28-2003 06:25 AM

>The surfer doesn't give any thought to design.
Sure does. Like I said before you won't take your credit card and sign up if the layot looks shitty. And girls are of poor quality.

This thread is about the best looking site, not about showing off our portfolio. :) So I'm not showing off.

I beleive that there is no website that looks absolutely awesome to everyone.

Pete 09-28-2003 06:56 AM

I sort of like the playboy site.

X37375787 09-28-2003 08:03 AM

I prefer content, loadtimes and easy navigation over flashy and chopped site designs. Design is overrated, then again there's plenty of people to prove me wrong. :glugglug

Ozzymosis1 09-28-2003 01:43 PM

so basicly what you need is a simple yet profesinal design thats easy to navigate, with some kick ass contnent....
