Its not about office space so much as it is distraction.
20 Minute drive to work. 15 Minutes get acclimated. 30+ Minute meetings. 20 Minutes fucking with a development environment that is subject and surrounded by mishaps... LUNCH! 10 minute smoke break. 1 hr work. 30 minutes Q$A and new project requests. 20-40 minutes explaining things. 20-30 minutes miscelleneous questions. 20 minutes answering emails fucking the creative flow up. 30 minutes writing correspondence... Drive home another 20 minutes. What exactly was done during the day? I am used to working 14 hours a day, and night without interruptions except to piss and eat. With me when I am working only a few things matter. The server and the creation. Nothing else matters when in a "zone". |
the movie :)

Just realize where you are and what is required of you.
Your expected to steal all the pens, paperclips, and sticky notes just like everyone else. Oh, yea, your missing 1 to 1½ hours of checking your personal email and the bonus is if your keyboard is making lots of noise then it's assumed you work like a bastard. Tow the line and cash the paycheck...everyone else does. |

I do not work for people to take there money. I work to propell them above the standard. If I could tell you a story... I would tell you that todays highest money making business men on the net are getting raped by there employee's. |
I think this was a loaded question. You know that it is not bad to like freedom over a choice of corporate america telling you how to dress and when to show up, and which stapler is yours (or in Miltons case; which stapler is not his).

Just a note...
3 to 5 people is all it takes to make a living on the net. 1 LEADER IDea man (optional and must be good. DAMN GOOD)) 1 Network/Host guy 1 Marketing guy. 1 CGI Artist. 1 Content artist. The sum of the 3 to 5 carry administrative between one another. Thats it nothing more to make a huge success on the net. |
BAD BOY ! :Graucho
|
the worst :winkwink:

Anyways the note above just might be the answer to why outsourcing might be a good thing but then then this is ENTERTAINMENT we speak of... |

Is there anyway you could balance in between the two?
I've always wanted a corporate job, wearing a cute little woman suit all day and all. It would be nice to compromise between the two. Good Luck:) |

I have worked out of home for a while now and am far more productive than simply rotting on a freeway wondering if I am gonna be subject to HR scrutiny. |

I just might do that. I can raise an army of east indain designers in less than 4 months chanting "PSD!. PSd! PSD!" or "Crop, inverse select copy!" humm... Who is Kablan? He an easy going guy or an uptight ass hole? |

I just see if you could do that, you could get the best of both worlds, have yourself in some fat cash, and stay busy. Do you have a family, cause that might make it kind of hard, but if not go for it, and if you get tired of it, then you could come back to this decision and make it then. |

My entire exhistance is not dependant on a 9-5. No harm no fowl. Dont forget this in the industry... YOU WILL NOT WORK FOR SOMEONE FOREVER. We are in a constant dance and people move around (Some more than others) and at the end of the day ya ask your self. "Did I burn any bridges?" Thats all that matters... If somthing does not work out it does not mean that there is bad intent. It sometimes means ya value your time more. |
I know what you mean. I worked in Insurance after college and at a Venture Capital / "incubator" firm after grad school. The pay was good but I felt my soul being drained out on a daily basis.

I prefer a similar production day like you described above. My friends and family still don't understand why I would pass up all that money I was getting for doing NOTHING all day, a dream come true to some, but that's just not how I like to work. |
