The most I ever remember getting for $1US was $1.63CDN - that was 10 years ago now, but seems like yesterday when we would cross the border to get drunk at 19.

Dennis69 01-04-2006 09:34 AM

Yeah I just went and cashed 2 cheques and the exchange was 1.13... almost made me cry  I loved the days when it use to be up around 1.55

cool1 01-04-2006 09:34 AM

Remember on the 1st...

The US Treasury clearly stated that in 2 months from 4 days ago that the United States will no longer have enough money for daily operations unless the national debt limit is raised. The US is already in so much debt, the debt alone is enough money to make every man woman and child on this earth rich.

interesting to know - and I agree with my canadian friends - very soon the canadian dollar is going to equal the american if not more - I sincerely hope not but with all the mess happening down there it was about to happen.

That's why the Canada will be in recession in the end of 2006. The Canadian dollar will be so high that a lot of big company will close. Check this out 2006 will not be nice in the next few months for us Canadian.

Interesting... even in the ghetto in my town, indoor plumbing costs 500k.

BradM 01-04-2006 12:30 PM

Yep, we're only hurting ourselves with this exchange rate.

you want a cookie or something?

GlydeGirl 01-04-2006 12:57 PM

One of the reasons Canada is doing so well with our dollar is all the oil we have in Alberta. Since 9-11, fuel rates have skyrocketed to the level where it is now economically feasible for us to mine our oil sands. We've got so much oil to sell to you Americans, and it's all thanks to Iraq!

But don't worry, we're your good buddies and will gladly sell you all the oil your country wants. Won't it be nice to buy from a country that you DON'T have to bomb on a regular basis?

And they say that nice guys finish last.... :evil-laug

I want my 1.5x exchange back.

ajrocks 01-04-2006 02:11 PM

Yup the good old US Government has fucked things all up. In the 60's the Canadian Dollar was worth 20 cents more then the American Dollar, looks like we are heading that way again.

okdesign 01-04-2006 02:53 PM

qwe 01-04-2006 03:15 PM

Just the opposite; export companies loves a low exchange rates because their products become cheaper to buying countries, therefor increasing their volume. Many economists believe the current exchange is being kept artificially low for just that reason. It helps balance our trade deficit.

Vitasoy 01-04-2006 05:29 PM

Yea it sucks.. before we know it, it'll be worth just as much or even more.

Huh? I think you got it all wrong.

Economy 101 :

If the dollar is strong, this means that it's going to cost MORE for the importer elsewhere in the world to buy our products. It's not going to increase the volume for our export companies. Those companies will have to lower their prices to sell the same volume, thus, losing even more profits.
