How long until "teen" becomes illegal in domain names?

Don't be ignorant, you know its coming..question is when? US will most likely be the first, so what will you do?

Well, "lolita" and "sex" in the same domain is still acceptable by at least one registrar so I don't see "teen" being unacceptable any time soon.

Your right, prolly not soon. Id say couple years

jact 12-15-2006 10:24 AM

It'll likely be enforced at the register level before we see it enforced on a legal level. There was a case this morning of domains with girl and teen being shut off (I'll find the thread later).

With people pushing the envelope with how young they're making the "legal" teens look, it's only a matter of time before we get more heat.

Linkster 12-15-2006 10:24 AM

I just got an email from sedo pulling one of my domains from their parking Pro program for having the word teen in it - the domain was sex-pics-teen.com - of course there was no content - just sedos parking page

The first adult domain I bought was Girlsmania.com, I can remember as far back as 01-02 it was really hard for me to by PPC on most SE's (except Google I think). They were refusing the campaign because of the word "Girls" in the domain relating to porn.

Yeah, how long until "teen" in GFY usernames becomes illegal?

sfera 12-15-2006 10:35 AM

so teen-church-groups.com is going to be illegal? im fucked!

Dirty Dane 12-15-2006 10:35 AM

I dont think it would be illegal. Combination of words matters more than "teen" alone.

Klen 12-15-2006 10:37 AM

Why should teen be illegal?I mean when someone say teen that doesnt reffer to porn at all,its a general term for older kids.

pornguy 12-15-2006 10:38 AM

All it takes is one major event with a domain and then word teen in it.

Or they will sneak it through a fishing bill or something.

Peaches 12-15-2006 10:39 AM

I think it will depend on what's ON the domain. Like when "breast" was deleted from AOL search until they realized that got rid of breast cancer, breast feeding, etc. searches.

betsy 12-15-2006 10:40 AM

I've already had webmasters refuse trades because one of my urls has teen in it. :(

Psycho_x 12-15-2006 10:40 AM

I dont think it will become illegal. With 18 being legal age if they did that than that would open the door to ban several other names.Such as girl because it dosent explain the exact age of the female in question.

evilangelalex 12-15-2006 10:48 AM

First "teen", next it's gonna be "granny"! WTF is this world comin to?!?!

Don't know about you, but I work in "porn" and im referring to porn domains lol.

PK-J 12-15-2006 10:51 AM

I dont think it will ever become illegal in the united states. But it may cause a few people to take a closer look at you.

Just replace with "The" hehe

karlm 12-15-2006 10:55 AM

I dont think it will happen what about the mianstream world too.

tranza 12-15-2006 10:55 AM

I don't have any "teen" domain, so I couldn't care less actually.

I should have made it clear in my first post I guess, I'm referring to "teen" in porn domains. :upsidedow I thought we were all on the same page hehe.

I think it's prudent to avoid any potential trouble regardless. Just look at how adwords broad definition of "teen porn concepts" has effected so many advertisers. I call it handwriting on the wall.

I got rid of all my teen domains 2+ years ago.

Yepp, I have stopped making long term investments in "teen" domains a long time ago.

Tom_PM 12-15-2006 11:11 AM

I never bought any in the first place, nya nya! hehe :)

stickyfingerz 12-15-2006 11:13 AM

OMG Jim 12-15-2006 11:20 AM

Isn't it true that you can no longer use the word "young" before either teen(s) or girl(s) in your ad copy because it may be construed as CP?

Does this currently hold true for domain names?

who 12-15-2006 11:25 AM

The world's gone bonkers. Next they'll hit on the word 'schoolgirl' and 'barely legal'

Kimmykim 12-15-2006 12:20 PM

Teen is already banned from Visa compliance.

salesman 12-15-2006 12:31 PM

is not a problem for me, i have an idea how to cheat it :)

DaddyHalbucks 12-15-2006 12:58 PM

Teen 18-19 is perfectly legal.

So why all the fuss?

Serge Litehead 12-15-2006 01:20 PM

domains? bigger picture - porn industry and "teen" concept will split apart some time in future. public will not tolerate seeing nude "teens" for long as term "teen" relates to kids more than to anything else. as industry we should introduce new terms for that type of content (18+) and educate viewers. if that ever happens this industry rep will only benefit. requiring models be 21 to get in to the industry would be a super plus but our greed won't allow it until someone else tells us to.
if industry won't take steps in protecting its market and being responsible, think there will be a witch hunt of teen porn production and distribution.

camuseeme 12-15-2006 09:52 PM

Adwords cancelled my account today for promoting girlsgonewild becasue it violates their "teen porn concept" policy.

Webby 12-15-2006 10:01 PM

Can't remember which hosts, but a couple don't accept "teen" in domain names on their network. Think Rackspace is one...

Can see it being a possible "issue" in the US, but doubt anywhere else - as long as the individuals depicted are of legal age (and this can vary a degree, depending on the country).

as long as eight or nine are written in front of teen there should be no fuss :2 cents:

tenletters 12-16-2006 12:47 AM

the sky is falling

Juilan 12-16-2006 09:49 PM

We haven't lost the battlefront on "Girl" or "Girls" yet. (Playgirl, Suicidegirls) so no rush to cover teen yet...
