Top 5 Punk Bands of All Time

There are hundreds of great punk bands past and present. Im talking about the bands that you can spot instantly, even if it was some unreleased bulgarian underground bootleg you would be able to spot them instantly. Bands whos releases you devoured and will scream from beginning to end while you drive down the road even to this day.

1) Bad Brains
2) Misfits
3) Youth of Today even though its probably more core than punk
4) Ramones
5) Social Distortion

That was harder than I thought it would be.

So... lets hear em.

[Labret] 08-18-2002 12:17 AM

Anyone says Greenday or Blink will die.

Sly_RJ 08-18-2002 12:19 AM

Frank W 08-18-2002 12:22 AM

Labels may change but I guess these are mostly in the hardcore/punk genre.

1. Black Flag [pre Henry Rollins]
2. Minor Threat [despite the tinge of incipient emo rantings]
3. Flipper
4. The Kids
5. TSOL

Deb 08-18-2002 12:23 AM

I was always a fan of The Buzzcocks (Orgasm Addict was my favorite song by them - gee what a surprise, given the industry I'm now in. lol ), Siouxsie & The Banshees, Wendy O., and The Dead Kennedy's...way back when. :)

dnsmonster 08-18-2002 12:25 AM

1. Rancid
2. Bad Religion
3. Antiheroes
4. Sex Pistols
5. Offspring (I must say)

Brown Bear 08-18-2002 12:25 AM

Minor Threat

Does it piss you off when people call "The Offspring" punk or neo-punk?

Fletch XXX 08-18-2002 12:27 AM

Misfits.
Zeke.
Dwarves.
Poison Idea.
Iggy & The Stooges (Raw Power)

I listen to this Daily. No particular order except slot 001.

SpaceAce 08-18-2002 12:29 AM

I like The Ramones, Sex Pistols and... The Stooges. How did they get left off of everyone's list?

Shit, nevermind... looks like someone just posted them.

SpaceAce

[Labret] 08-18-2002 12:29 AM

Minor Threat blew my little mind the first time I heard them.

Cant believe I forgot to put them on my list.

Even though Ian and Fugazi are the godfathers of EMO, a scene which represents all that is sick with the world.

x3guide 08-18-2002 01:32 AM

1. Ramones
2. Ramones
3. Ramones
4. Ramones
5. Guitar Wolf (try find the "fujiyama attack" or "jet generation" songs)

Theo 08-18-2002 01:44 AM

The Who is far away from punk of course, but I think it's one of the sounds that affected the punk scene.

Name another band that sounds remotely close to what punk is, that brought as much public attention to this music and I will retract my vote.

Propagandhi is just awsome! But I like the older albums better (i.e. How to clean everything.....kick some ass)

In the same branch, I like bigwig and thrice....some powerful riff there..! As for Dead Kennedys, they never hook me, but I liked the other band of the singer (the name was Lard if I remember well...)
Good top 5 tough...that's about what i would've chosed...but Nofx instead of guttermouth :Graucho

MadCap 08-18-2002 02:46 AM

Dead milkmen
ramones
dead kenedys
Sex pistols
divo........................SIKE

hhahaha, I spaced on the last line in that chorus...I know it's something "blah balh kill something and you tell us it's ok"

I remember when we did a cover of a couple Cryptic Slaughter songs in a band I was in and half the time I didn't know the lyrics but knew what they sounded like...

speaking of which...Henry Rollins is on Comedy Central(?) doing his spoken word stuff, funny as hell, but I hope this doesn't make him think he's a comedian....he'll lose his edge ;)

Jakke PNG 08-18-2002 03:15 AM

Rancid
Sex pistols
Millencolin
Pennywise
Goldfinger

heheh.. odd choices, I know. I just happen to like 'em
Don't kill me.

chodadog 08-18-2002 03:21 AM

The Ramones
The Dolls
The Misfits
The Clash

The last spot is a toss up between The Sex Pistols, Suicidal Tendancies, Rancid and Dead Kennedys.

LoveAsianChicks 08-18-2002 03:24 AM

Sex Pistols are the founders of punk - at least I think so.
They get my #1 vote.

I meant they founded my interest in punk music since they were the first punk group I liked.

Libertine 08-18-2002 03:50 AM

1. Ryker's
2. Tech 9
3. The Exploited

5. The Bouncing souls

and to make a full top 20 (some bands just can't be left out):

7. Brightside
8. Black Flag
9. Human Alert
10. Battery
11. Sex Pistols
12. GG Allin
13. Outahand

-=HUNGRYMAN=- 08-18-2002 04:29 AM

I think both MILLIONS OF DEAD COPS , as wel as THE CRAMPS deserve an honorable mention ....

Where's DEATH RATES INC in this list of who's who ??

And let's not forget about Johnnie Lydon and Public Image Limited ...

I used to be HEAVY into the punk scene as a teen .... Even had a Orange and Brown mohawk for a summer ...

I went to a family reunion that year at Thanksgiving, and scared the living fuck outta my religious grandparents ... I thought they were gonna preform an "excorcism" right there !! :feels-hot

jollyperv 08-18-2002 04:40 AM

8. The Saints (1977 Australian)
