What car would you buy $60k or $1k/mo

What kind of car would you buy for $60,000 or about $1,000 to $1,200 a month in payments/lease? New or used, either one.

Im not looking to buy something like a $5,000 used car and save the money, so dont offer that suggestion :winkwink:

Since you're in Cali, i'd go with a convertible like a

Honda S2000 or Mitsubishi Eclypse Spyder with all the options you need.

hahaha, thats what my friend just got. its a sweet car, but not my taste. to much like a race car than a luxury car imo.

I was thinking something like either a 2005 BMW 645 convertible or a 05 Mbenz CLS500

I test drove a few BMW's and love the M5 and M6. If I (or anyone else) waits around a few more months, all the '05 M5's will be coming off the lease and you can get a good deal on them

You can always get a Benz SL 500 with about 30k miles for $60 also. The convertible BMW 6 is also one of the hottest on the street. You MIGHT be able to get one for $60 used.

I thought about it, but the SL is going to be redone very shortly by MB and the insurance is WAY higher becuase its considered a sports car. I like the car tho, but my ego is to low to get a car that will be "outdated" in a year :winkwink: hahaa

PinPine 06-18-2007 05:59 PM

BMW m3, or an audi TT

Fresh 06-18-2007 06:04 PM

depends on what kinda cars you like. Sports or luxury? or both?

the CLS550 is an amazing car.

with the exception of the ctsv that use the ls2 400 hp vette motor the stsv and the xlrv use the 4.6 northstar engine... which develops power a bit high in the RPM to suit me... just sold my v8 sts because of the power band issues for me

ePorn 06-18-2007 08:43 PM

M5 or 6 series convertible. On the other hand, there's always the bomb of all bombs, Porsche 911 Targa or Carerra - timeless and retains its value.

webgurl 06-18-2007 08:44 PM

wow that's crazy you can get M3 or even Used M5's in the
states for that price . Here in Canada M3's are like 80 and M5's
6 digits ....

I don't know of a luxury car in the $60,000 range. My BMW was around there and I *certainly* wouldn't consider it "luxury" by any stretch of the imagination ... you'd need to spend closer to $100,000, and usually a bit over.

Porsche C4, used, depreciated to about $60k. I'm guessing that would be about an 02 or 03 with about 15-25k miles on it.:2 cents:

I'd say that @ the $30-40k level but he wants $60k.

I wonder how much the new BWM M3s will cost?:cool-as-a

One reason NOT to buy a Benz

spunkmaster 06-18-2007 11:06 PM

I just worked out a 36 month lease on a 2008 mercedes GL420 ($62,000 retail) for $590.00 per month.

I might get the diesel engine instead and it's a bit cheaper.

96ukssob 06-18-2007 11:10 PM

Right now I have an Infiniti M35, bought new in 2006. Its a sweet ride and loaded with cool toys, but the value of it is going down the tubes hard. I want to get out now before the '08 is released which will bring the price down even further.

Ive looked at a 750Li, which is a sweet car, but after I drove the M6 I was sold on something fast. I havent driven an M5, but I have a 550 and 525, so I can use my imagination to what its like.

As far as Mbenz, after driving a few of their cars, I would probably only go with one or two models, either the S550 or CLS500. The S550 is a little above what I'm looking to spend used. Ive seen a few go for mid $80's and the CLS for low $60's. Compared to a 750Li, the S550 wins hands down, but is $15 to $20k cheaper.

The M3 is to small of a car for me. I want something thats a little bigger, but sporty. Im not an SUV driver or id go for something like a 05 range rover or benz ML class.

I think I might hold off until August when the 2 year leases are up on the '05 M5 and I can pick one up cheap

Thats crazy, nice price!

How much did you put down? I had a good deal on a 2006 M6 for about $1500 with just a little down, but passed it up

jonesonyou 06-18-2007 11:12 PM

NONE. Dept. is Dumb. Cash is King and The paid off home mortgage has taken the place of the bmw as the status symbol of choice.

Many times, the better the car (the less the depreciation), the lower the payment.

This is why it costs more to lease a Dodge Minivan, in some cases, and than a 5-series BMW.
