You are a fan of Sex in the City, aren't you?

RevSand 07-23-2008 01:40 PM

Saw it last night... Yea the hype on it is a bit much BUT that being said I did think it was a damn good movie. A little long feeling at times but well done.

I now also see the hype around Heath Ledgers Joker... He WAS that role and played it way better then I had imagined... I had always thought Bale was a good batman but Ledger WAS the joker...

dig420 07-23-2008 01:44 PM

Yeah it was a pretty good movie, but nothing near as good as the hype's making it out to be.

$204 million in 5 days. Already #84 all time. Should be #1 movie of 2008 Saturday.

Also only $1.6 mil behind Batman Begins.

i concur

CaveCreek_Russell 07-23-2008 02:18 PM

I liked it, the movie length didn't bother me.

I thought Heath Ledger made a great Joker, but as one of my friends put it, it wasn't just his acting that made it awesome, it was what they had the joker do. So I guess good writing + good acting = great villain.

Why do people take "overhype" into consideration for their movie reviews?

"The advertising and reviews for this movie were very good and therefore I liked the movie less"

bloggingseo 07-23-2008 11:35 PM

I still think it kicked total ass

NickB. 07-24-2008 02:21 AM

I fell asleep LOL

CyberHustler 07-24-2008 02:40 AM

tranza 07-24-2008 07:37 AM

Violetta 07-24-2008 09:03 AM

buyandsell 07-24-2008 09:03 AM

I winced when they crashed the lamborghini, saddest part of the film!

Dirty F 07-24-2008 09:05 AM

I htink im gonna see it in 2 hours but its the first day its playing so maybe no tickets left.

raven1083 07-24-2008 09:06 AM

it didn't change anything! I want to watch it!

OMG Jim 07-24-2008 09:25 AM

I agree that sometimes a single performance can be better than the rest of the movie and that's what it sounds like with Heath Ledger as the Joker.

Anyone seen it on IMAX yet?

We only have two IMAX theaters in the Atlanta area I know of and right now it's sold out for over 4 weeks in advance. :Oh crap

This is the type movie that seems like it would be much better on IMAX so I guess I'll just have to wait a month or so before even thinking about seeing it.

Scott McD 07-24-2008 09:46 AM

Gonna wait till the cinemas aren't so crazy before going to see it. Hate sitting in a packed movie theatre. Normally i end up stuck down the front.

I'll wait... :)

ADL Eddie 07-24-2008 09:47 AM

im gonna watch it again

meanbitchesglenn 07-24-2008 10:22 AM

I agree completely. It was an OK movie, but not great:

1) They don't develop the characters enough to make them likable. Usually in a superhero movie they open by having a family getting mugged and then have the hero come in and save them (or something like that). Then you get a little bit of backstory on the guy that makes you empathize with him. For example, in "Iron Man" our boy Tony Stark is tortured with another guy by Arab terrorists. At one point he wants to sacrifice himself for the other hostage. You start to like him and root for him. In The Dark Knight they did none of that... they just showed us the dark side.

2) Maggie Gillenhall is the most butt-ugly female lead ever in a superhero movie. With all of the thousands of hot women in Hollywood, that's the best they could find? She's not even a good actress.

3) In this movie, Batman has superhuman strength and can bend a steel gun barrel with one hand. When I was a kid, the cool thing about Batman was that he had no superpowers.

4) Although Batman now has superhuman strength, the joker is now a superninja who can dodge bullets and can beat batman straight up in a fight. The Joker can walk into a meeting of 50 mafia guys, kill one, and then walk out. There is just no explanation in this thing about why the Joker is so powerful. Is he from another planet? I know the original joker was not, but I think maybe this joker gets his powers from the same place that Green Latern gets his.

5) The action was hard to follow... most of it was in dark shadow. At a key moment in the movie when commissioner gordon saves the day, I couldn't figure out what the hell happened.

6) Like all superhero movies, the stunts were overly unrealistic. Everyone gets in car crashes thoughout the movie where cars flip and roll over a bunch of times, and then climbs out and walks away.

7) The movie was way too long. At 1 hour 45 minutes, it went from OK to annoying.

Just my opinion...

Movie sucked ass, just saw it

Ledger was really good.

Unfortunately an hour of wasted time could have been cut out, Batman trying to sound like Gunny Highway ala Eastwood was just annoying, and at the 2 hour mark I was just hoping the end was in sight.

Would have been MUCH better if they stuck with just the Joker, and tied in Harvy Two Face as the hook for the next movie.

19 bucks for 2 tix, 30 at the snack stand, and 2 1/2 hours I will never get back.

I went twice. The reports are saying a lot of people are going back multiple times.

Somebody must like it...

ladida 07-27-2008 04:56 PM

Batman has superhuman strenght and joker dodges bullets? Bah.. That was the whole appeal to batman that he's human. No laugh gas also, now this.. I have odd feelings i wont like this movie. :P

pornask 07-27-2008 05:21 PM

overhyped big time. I was looking at my watch all the time, dragging... couldn't wait for it to end.

bhutocracy 07-27-2008 05:29 PM

It was fantastic. I didn't really see how Joker has super powers. The reason he can walked out of a room of mafia bosses was very explicitly in his jacket pocket and not of supernatural origin. He seemed weak to me, as he should be. If you complain about unrealistic action sequences in a movie about a guy that dresses up as a bat and flies around in a military glider cape fighting crime.. then please have a good hard long look at yourself in the mirror and have a think about where things went wrong in your life.

cykoe6 07-27-2008 05:31 PM

I enjoyed the movie but I did not think it was spectacular. It was certainly worth the price of admission though so I ma not complaining. A good move but not a classic. :2 cents:

Wow, you just don't pay attention.

1. See Batman Begins

2. That was idiotic, what you said there. Maybe she's not super-fine, but she's a good actress.

3. He's a pretty strong guy, and with the gloves + thin gun barrel, it's not outside the realm of possibility.

4. He has no superpowers. He just has balls. That scene with the mafia guys was setting up his character as a very powerful and unstoppable persona.

5. It was one of the only daylight scenes when Gordon got shot.

6.

7. I feel you on this one. It was too long. But it was 2:30, not 1:45.

Bronco67 pretty much gave you the answers you needed to hear but I just thought I'd add a little to the first 2.

1) See Bronco67's answer if you wanted a motive and backstory to Batman. A Joker backstory would have completely killed the character. Wonder why Starwars Episode 1-3 sucked? Because Darth Vader went from baddest dude in the Universe to some Emo punk. If we knew why the Joker was a crazy Anarchist it would have given a sense and purpose to what he was doing....that would have ruined the character. They purposely withheld an origin....that's why he gives multiple versions of his bio throughout the movie.

2) A hot chic would have taken away from her character and Bruce Wayne's genuine love for her. He was surrounded by super hot model type chics but wanted her....this too was done purposely. She would have just been another hot chic if they got a hot chic to play her...getting a butt ugly girl to play her provides contrast.

Young 07-27-2008 09:24 PM

btw the movie was fucking awesome. got a little long but i loved almost every second.

I agree 100%. WTF? You could walk down the 3rd street promenade and find 1000's of women who are 10x better looking than her...it made no sense...Bruce Wayne is a Billionaire playboy, and he wants that tired piece of ass...Not believable at all...Never thought id say this *sigh* but Katie Holmes was better
