Have you seen the new corn syrup propaganda commercials?

Ive seen now two of them in two days. Someone is offered something and the person says no thank you that has high fructose corn syrup. The person offering says why is that bad ? The person has a blank look on their face. Then they talk about how fine it is in moderation.
People must be dropping their consumption of it, good fuck them.

I think the new bill gates commercial is fucking wierd with Jerry.

GigoloShawn 09-07-2008 09:42 PM

Go go purple drank!

Wait, that's made with cane sugar or beet sugar.. People aren't drinking enough Pepsi!

On the other hand, if we deplete the corn syrup conglomerates, maybe that'll get rid of that fucking worthless ethanol additive.

If you look closely, his "clown shoes" ID has his old Arizona booking photo picture on it. Nice touch, that.

They charted it and the growth of obesity in this country and the use of high fructose syrup are almost parallel.

I drink a ton of Diet Pop with Aspartame. I'm in great shape too.

You're trying to tell me Aspartame is dangerous. You know what's dangerous? Being morbidly obese. Analyze that wording a little bit guys.

No, I'd argue I'm far healthier than most people intaking high amounts of sugar. Period.

So, cancer > diabetes. Gotcha.

Okay so medical science believes drinking Aspartame gives you cancer? As far as I know, no conclusive evidence has been found based on actual case study.

It's a debate. Some studies showing adverse effects, others not. There's no difinitive answer in Medicine, and yet here you are telling me it's going to give me cancer.

Meanwhile, we know for sure the dangers posed by Obesity. Everything from Diabatese, to heart disease to high blood pressure and cholestory, etc etc. Not to mention the measurable decrease in quality of life.

No, I'm sorry I'm not convinced. The average fat ass Pepsi swilling American would be doing himself a giant favour switching to Diet Pepsi.

how about cutting out sugar all together.. people are fat because they eat way more calories then they expend.. its not just a problem with sugar and high fat foods, its a problem with a society based on junk food, fast food, and poor exercise habits... :2 cents:

My point was that there was evidence that it can give you cancer. That you'd wish cancer on someone whose already so lazy that they sit around and swill cola like it's air, well, is just sadistic.

A fatass isn't going to stop being a fatass just because they switch to diet cola; it requires a lot more than that - it requires a lifestyle change.

So, if you're going to dispell my evidence, yous needs to be a bit better than 'hey i think I'm think and I don't have cancer'.

I watch almost nothing without recording it on the DVR first (except sporting events)

I haven't watched a commercial in god knows how long.

I sure make the effort to, aspartame sucks - Anyway, indeed, not healthy. Also fooling your body/brain, you taste something sweet (180x sweeter than sugar) so your body thinks you are consuming sugar. Your body prepares itself but doesnt get any sugar. It fucks you up and makes you crave more sugar. :error

BTW Tony, do you have a graph or something that shows the correlation between obesity and corn syrup sales/production in this country.

I'd like to read the article.

I hear people say that all the time but you don't understand. Once you get used to diet soda, regular soda tastes like syrup. You just can't drink it. So even if you never diet again, diet soda is what you'll be drinking once you acquire a taste for it.

I have to back this up.

I started drinking Diet Rite, which was, well, like flat cola. After this, I can't really even stand non-Splenda diet colas.. I can taste the chemicals, and if I'm wasting 200 calories, it's not on a goddamn fizzy drink.

Once I got used to eating healthy as part of my daily routine, the idea of drinking any kind of cola or soda made me nauseous. Diet soda is definitely better than non-diet soda, but it's still sugary and chemically tasting swill. I prefer iced tea and water now.

I'm not really buying that "totally", corn syrup is a small part of a bigger problem.

Like I was saying before, when my parents were kids they ate pure sugar, fried chicken in crisco animal shortening, put real butter on their bread, all kinds of shit that people usually don't do today for "health reasons"
Yet they were much skinnier than we are.

The reason?

Food is so cheap.

When my parents were kids the grocery bill was more than the mortgage....that's almost never the case today.
Since food is so cheap and plentiful, people are eating more and more of it.

One of the reasons food is so cheap is farm subsidies. One of the biggest subsidies goes to corn growers. This made corn syrup cheaper to use than sugar, so food manufacturers started using it.

So while obesity and corn syrup are plotting the same graph....I think it's more for the reason that corn syrup made food cheaper and people started eating more of it....not that corn syrup is more "evil" than something like sugar or molasses.

Altheon 09-08-2008 05:25 PM

The reason why there are ads for this type of stuff. Is so that they spend enough money in ad revenue that they have clout over the network if one of their news organizations digs up some dirt on them. It's a common practice. Remember those bizarre ads for the plastics industry?

IllTestYourGirls 09-08-2008 05:33 PM

Um all ads are propaganda. If you think an ad is there to tell you the truth about any product you need your fucking head checked. Do you actually believe all these drugs I see on tv are actually GOOD for you? lol

Oh ya you believe Obama is "change" because its in his propaganda ads LOL

gornyhuy 09-08-2008 07:26 PM

fact: diet soda tastes like chemical shit death.

regular soda tastes like syrup. I usually cut it at least in half with seltzer at the fountain.
