GoodBye Free Market - I'll miss you. Hello Socialism.

Welcome everyone.

President Bush on Tuesday announced a $250 billion plan by the government to directly buy shares in the nation's leading banks, saying the drastic steps were "not intended to take over the free market but to preserve it."

Anyone believe this lying monkey?

I sure as hell don't.

first off what we had before was not a free market or capitalism. Second off if it were, you can not save capitalism/freemarket with socialism.

Dems you have won! You have gotten what you wanted. Bush is your best friend and you never realized it. :thumbsup

You fail to realize it is going to fail anyway. Price fixing never works.

Snake Doctor 10-14-2008 09:55 AM

As much as conservatives hate FDR and his legacy, he actually did save capitalism.

The great depression drove most countries to adopt some form of socialism, at least for awhile.

Keynesian capitalism is the way to go IMO.

Tom_PM 10-14-2008 10:00 AM

Yeah the free market has rocked under Bush. No-bid contracts, private companies doing military work outside the strictures of military codes of conduct.

Rock n roll hoochie coo.

There is a severe misunderstanding of what socialism is in this thread. :2 cents:

TheDoc 10-14-2008 10:07 AM

That isn't Socialism.. A balanced social system is needed and is good.

This is some twisted form of capitalism that could end up with communist connections if the working man looses his control because the bad loans he 'may' take and/or if the Gov just decides to call debt.

That is about as close to communism as you can get without actually being communist in my opinion.

You're more intelligent than most of the posters here, but i don't think you quite understand what socialism is, this is definitely not socialism and why would Bush put something through that works? If he was genuinley interested in making the USA better he would socialize healthcare, oil, rail, flights and just about everything so the price for the American people to fill up their car would be like $3 or if they wanted to fly somewhere it would be really cheap, that is socialism.

BradM 10-14-2008 10:10 AM

Definition: "A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy ..."

Definition: "The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved."

The only difference between the two systems listed above is one has a dictator and the other does not.

America is now socialist. You can deny it, or insist it's for the betterment of capitalism but get real and stop living in denial.

America now is one step away from Communism, it just needs an authority government. :)

I can just imagine 5 years from now, going to a bank will be like going to a DMV.... it probably won't happen, but it's a scary thought :(

BradM 10-14-2008 10:14 AM

Socialism does NOT equal "cheap things".

The DEFINITION of socialism is a government run economy. Whereby the government runs the banks, prints the money, runs the treasury etc.

America is now socialist.

Look up the DEFINITION of socialism. Don't use examples of other countries you think or know were or are socialist. If you even try to deny what is going on, you have sheep wool covering your eyes.

This isn't a conspiracy theory. This is a simple fact of a square peg fitting in a square hole.

I am blonde. I am tall.
America is socialist.

It's not an insult, it's not even open for debate, it's just a fact.

You say it like it's a bad thing. Now regulate the banks more, nationalize a few more things equalling more jobs and more industry and America will be making progress!!

MovieMaster 10-14-2008 10:19 AM

Don't worry obama will further the cause for socialism....

Can't wait for the govt to fuck up healthcare like they do social security, financial mess, etc..

I am a socialist, and I vote that way. I'm excited about it.

But you said "It's not socialist. Cheap gas means it is!" I'm pointing out how absolutely wrong you were with that statement.

Just don't say things you don't know anything about, it's a waste of the innanet.

You do not know what Socialism means and you live in a Socialist Country.

Yes, America is a Socialist Country, it has been for ..... 80 years or so, and has gotten that way every decade since. It is also very Capitalist. Since it is a mixture of cultures, ect.. I would expect it to be a mixture, and it is.

Okay sport. First, Please stop adopting the 12clicks way of talking to people.

Secondly, I just defined socialism based on every single political science explanation, and that of ANY definition source in text books, or online.

Are you telling me, Mr. TheDoc that you have a different definition for it, and that you and you alone believe socialism to mean something else? Please let me know what it is, so I can go out and inform the millions of others who have it wrong that they need to follow your lead.

You seem to be stating -I- am wrong. This is nothing -I- made up or defined, so if I have it wrong so does EVERYONE else but you I suppose.

kowalsky 10-14-2008 10:25 AM

This is not Socialism. This is to take money from state to save the the market. Itīs the way that the capital owners use to save their asses.

I donīt know way people insist on calling this Socialism.

Socialism is when to take the market profit to make an equitable distribution. Socialism is not to take the market debts to make all the people to pay for it.

I didn't say cheap gas means socialism, i was saying nationalizing the oil would mean cheap gas, for example, look at Saudi Arabia, the oil company is state owned so the people their get a full tank of gas for like $3. You don't seem to have a clue mate, America is still the most capitalist country on the planet.

I do think this is for sure a way to control more wealth and slow down capitalism growth. While it may appear to help, with a national debt like it is, if you loans/bank/money gets directly owned by the Gov - they can collect anytime they want.

I can't see this being anything but a fast jump into communist control. We already have a fake banking system to keep the direct Gov out of our money. That wall was just kicked down....

All the governments print their own money, run the treasury, regulate interest rates, etc... US doesn't run socialism, sure it has some socialist programs/policies, but it's not even close to being true socialism...

12 clicks? I can't really say how he talks to people. What I stated was correct, you have made two posts about Socialism now and they didn't actually contain correct information.

Our Gov/Congress already regulates banks, like yours. Your Gov does not control all of your money, it regulates it, it taxes it, and so on.

The "ACTUAL" meaning of Socialism is when the state/gov controls more ownership for production and/or distribution of goods/products, allowing for a more equal life style in society.

Not the control of banks/money and even the free market (which you have too).. Regulate it, tax it, slow it down, yes... own it, no.

Any questions?

BradM 10-14-2008 10:39 AM

Wait, like yours? What are you talking about, I live in the US.
