Any dart throwers here?

Anyone here into darts just curious who shares this new found hobby of mine...

ive always liked throwing darts when i went out to a pub with friends and recently built a nice wooden backboard and hung my dartboard up and have been throwing everyday since. my brother also has a dartboard and I throw when i go there now too, everyone who comes over seems to enjoy playing darts ... i really enjoy it, relaxes me out of the internet work and definitely seems to help with keeping my eye strain down from doing computer related work all day...

anyone else throw here?

thats what got me hooked lol for years I threw at bars and pubs, and i found I wasnt *that* bad, and enjoyed it, but never had a dartboard at home... now that I do, i find myself losing hours throwing at night. last night i was throwing and before i looked up 3 hours had passed i had to stop to go to sleep lol

It's been pretty big here in Canada for awhile. I remember my pops and his friends it was either playing darts or poker on the weekends.

StuartD 01-09-2009 08:14 AM

I used to play in a few tournaments here and there but haven't stepped up to a board in years. I'm not even sure where my darts are anymore.

Scott McD 01-09-2009 08:15 AM

I've been playing on and off for years now. Always had a dart board at home. Used to play in pubs etc. It's been on the tv the past few weeks because of the Championships so a lot of people talking about it again.

I was actually better at darts a few years ago. Now i pretty much suck. It's all about the practice though.

And hey, what other sport can beer drinking fat guys be good at ?? :winkwink:
(ok i'm not fat, but i will be one day)

Klen 01-09-2009 08:17 AM

Donfoolio 01-09-2009 08:17 AM

cool! dartboards are in the majority of bars and pubs in America, but not many play at home it seems, the game is heavily tied to pubs it seems heheh even in the old dart tournaments they let the throwers drink beer and smoke cigs while throwing lol

Do you guys aim in different areas for fun or do you try to hit the same spot over and over?

when my wife walks past the "game" room I ask her what number she wants me to hit and then throw lol

as well as, practicing on triple 20 opening with a double for 501 etc... i just like to shoot for something and hit it, and yes sometimes it is over and over, such as triple 20... over and over lol

Been playing for 40 years in Pubs all across the UK. Great game after a few pints of warm beer :1orglaugh
I used to play for drinks, loser buys the next round, great until you get too drunk to win a game :1orglaugh

i play in a soft tip league here in my city. i think this is my 3rd year in league darts.

Strickie 01-09-2009 10:14 AM

A group of us played at my house last Saturday while watching the Cardinals game. It was a blast, but I need to practice.

baddog 01-09-2009 10:21 AM

I used to play daily, but it has been a while. I could probably still hold my own.

Brandon99 01-09-2009 10:26 AM

There's actually other countdown games like 301 or 501.

UniqueD 01-09-2009 01:05 PM

in tournaments and leagues you will play a variety of '01 games, (301, 501, 701) and cricket

Blazed 01-09-2009 01:18 PM

The main game played is 501.

Scott McD 01-10-2009 07:19 AM

I played for a while last night and felt a strain in my arm.

Not sure if it's because i haven't played much lately, or if i'm not throwing them how i should. Feels like i'm jerking my arm a bit when i throw...

TheDoc 01-10-2009 07:25 AM

We have a dart board in the house, I have played since I was old enough to play. My parents play in tournaments pretty much every week, for as long as I can remember.

Darts and Pool.. We play cricket, make a bit tougher and call your number or even the exact spot. Don't hit it, don't mark it. I'm no champ at darts by any means, I see those pro guys play and I just laugh and know I will never be that good.

I prefer pool over darts, but I would rather play darts in a bar.

You injured yourself playing darts? This thread gets better and better. Maybe you should drink more beer before you start throwing darts.

You are hyper extending the muscles in the arm, mostly around the joint area. Practice will build up the muscles around the joint area and the pain will go away.

I'm sure like starting any sport, your body hurts until you get used to it, even golf. Then like any sport, doing it for years will probably end up hurting you in some way, anyway.

My partner was playing darts, and someone walked between him and the board right as he through a metal tip dart.... It suck right in the guys back, it didn't play just the tip either..

I treat it like shooting a gun. I take a solid breath, but not over full.. and I clear the mind of thought, focus on the target and and I think of the shot, picture it happening.. the mind is calm, and I just let it go. I just try to get the tunnel vision to happen and when it does.. bam, right on the spot I was looking.

Exactly like playing golf, or pool.. with practice of course. You learn to kill every other body since or thought, so the focus is so strong the picture so perfect, that only the end result that you picture could happen so when it doesn't, you are almost shocked.

Where did i say i got injured ?? I said i felt a strain on my arm.

I guess it's just the same as golf. I end up all aches and pains after a round of golf when i haven't played in a while...

WarChild 01-10-2009 10:12 AM

Dude I thought you were married? When did you turn gay???

right, but I STILL MISS!!!! ;)

Ive noticed the tunnel vision thing and it saeems when that happens its like the board almost seems to come closer to you (might sound weird) but as I aim and focus its like the board scoots towards me a little and my vision focuses on a single area and bam it lands perfect, but hard to do constantly...

i watch Phil Taylor do 9 dart finishes and its like, damn... that guy really is good.

Blue Eyes 01-10-2009 10:16 AM

Check out our Dutch pride Barney a week ago during the World Championships

Check out his second 9 dart finish HERE

That's what the vision is, it seems like the only thing you have to do is reach out and put the dart right in the spot you want. Same thing happens on the golf course with me, the longest drives seem like a short put, a long put turns into inches..

And nope, it doesn't always go in, that's why we aren't Phil Taylor or Tiger Woods :)

I wonder what would happen if you tried to pick up a pool cue. :1orglaugh
