Ok, this is getting Ridiculous

I'm liberal

I'm black

I voted for Obama

I can't stand Bush

Heck, I've even started pro-Obama GFY threads (my recent, "he looks cool thread")

But damn, the Messiah worship of Obama is getting a little out of hand. I can't even watch the news without wondering if Obama is in fact God walking among us to save everyone. I half expect him to descend from heaven tomorrow, heal millions, talk in tongues, and walk on water. I get it, he brings hope and change. But he isn't the Messiah. Hell, even Fox news is in awe.

People need to chill the fuck out and tone down the expectations....

2012 01-19-2009 09:17 PM

I think you're right.

421Fill 01-19-2009 09:24 PM

I agree totally. There's going to be a lot of delusional peeps let down when they don't see miracles performed in the white house tomorrow. I like Obama. i think he will be good for our country. But, I know that the changes won't be overnight miracles.

Maybe so but if this momentum makes people go to work and kick ass because they
are excited then maybe this can produce a rally of productivity and bring this country
out of recession. It's going to be us(the people) that actually bring the country
back and maybe some people just need this kind of motivation and hope to move them.

For that reason I'm all for the hype.

The hype is already making other countries excited about doing business here and that
is way better than the way they felt after Bush went into Iraq.

I'm extremely happy that he is our new President. I just refuse to act like I'm a 12 year old girl and view Obama as if he's member of a popular boy band.

Anyone see the Daily Show today? John Stewart (as usual) alluded to what I'm talking about perfectly.

But hey, like my idol Lester Burnham, I'm fairly jaded...

I'm jaded also but if there ever was a bangwagon worth juming on this is it.

I want to be optimistic and motivated to work hard because I believe things
are going to get better. Any reason is a good reason for that.

Loki 01-19-2009 10:01 PM

I try like hell NOT to get involved with political topics, but with that said I just HAVE to open mouth and insert foot.....

I'll preface this with the following...

I'm white, 32, voted for The Big O and was damn proud of it, I give a shit what race he is, nor do I care what ANYONE'S race is for that matter. I'm not a follower of the tin foil hat society, and I don't think the gov has black vans circling my block and tapping my phone lol.

But WTF is going on here, I've been around for quite a few presidents so far, and for almost as long as I have been alive the media has been a big (sometimes HUGE) part of our world, I watched the Challenger explode live on TV, I watched hostages freed, I saw the wall come down all on "live tv"

I watched about blowjobs, and inhaling, say no to drugs, and everything in between, but NEVER in my entire life have I seen the media circus that is going on right now on live TV.

When Regan was elected he did not have 4 sets of coins for sale on TV where he's paired with Kennedy and Lincoln, when Bush Sr. was elected there was not coverage on the DISNEY CHANNEL (Yes you read that right!), when Clinton was elected there was not a huge simulcast on MTV (He DID play the Sax on MTV and SNL) when Bush Junior was elected there was not a star studded fucking HBO SPECIAL.

What did I miss here, I never got the memo that Obama was a super hero, with comic books, commemorative coins, and prime time TV specials as far as the eye can see.
Every TV station, radio station, newspaper, and even our own industry advertisements (look up up up lol) is flooded with stories, clipings, specials etc. and even if you block it all out, the people around you bring it up to you.

I've seen more "artwork" featuring Obama then ANY other president I can recall in MY history, It looks more like propaganda then actual news worthy stuff.

I'm I just missing the main point here, is it because he's a black man (and sorry if that's not PC these days) but is that it? if it is I get it, and I can even live with it, it is a big thing, to be the first of anything, but does it really honestly warrant as MUCH of a media / marketing blitz that is being shoved in every orifice we have available?

As I prefaced this with, I'm not a tin foil hat wearing, paranoid freak, but this just does not sit well with me, Obama is a man, not a superhero, not a god, and not the second coming of christ, hell, I honestly think ANYONE could have won if they were breatihng and running on the democratic ticket, thanks to the 8 years of hell Bush and co has put us through.

Am I missing something here? is this allot bigger then it really needs to be or should be?

has this in fact happened every election and I just missed it cause I work too much OR am I right that this time around there is more and more and more and more media and marketing this time around??

Yes, you are missing the main points.

- We are in two wars that we need to get out of and Obama wants to do it.
- We are in recession and Obama knows money.
- We are happy to get rid of the dumbest president ever.
- The world likes Obama and this is changing the tarnished image we had the last 8 years.
- A country that had black slaves has come around to believe in black a leader.

Combine those together and you have "Rock Star".

Just getting Bush(McCain) out was enough to cause a stir like this but tack on the first
black president and it just gets bigger.

America looks good to the rest of the world right now, but there is a danger of sour grapes
making ugly sceens and ruining that by making us look like a country full of racist.
The sour grapes should stand down and not humiliate this country.

With all your points Sortie, ANYONE running on the Dem ticket COULD have been a Rockstar, and it doesn't take even a 5th grade education to know that the BULK of the American public does NOT want to be at war, so that makes us ALL rockstars?

I admit, I AM stretching this lol, but with that logic alone it's still NOT enough to warrant all this media (propaganda) bologna I keep seeing everywhere I look......

And don't think for a second that ONE of the main reasons other countries do NOT like us is that we are a country/culture/generation of EXCESS, and what is happening right now helps HOW??

Not trying to argue here, but I'm thinking you found cliffnotes of my long post (can't blame ya for that lol) I GET the fact that Obama is against the war/s, and on day 1 he claims he'll close Gitmo down, it's cool, congrats, but really.... come on.... HBO Special, DISNEY CHANNEL, MTV come on....

Agreed. It's almost a perfect storm of circumstances that have led to this much excitement.

An outgoing president with one of the lowest approval ratings ever to leave office.

An incredibly intelligent, charismatic, level headed guy who happens to be black, happens to be from the same state as Lincoln, happens to be 40 year anniversary of MLK, happens to be about 200 years to Lincoln(whom he'd like to emulate), happens to give millions upon millions of people hope who won big in a huge election is coming into office.

The country is hurting in a big way both at home and abroad. People around the world are sick of what our government has been doing in our name. People at home are sick of what our government has been doing in OUR name. The economy is shit and is only going to get worse for a while.

How can anyone blame people for being excited about Obama? He hasn't promised any miracles. He hasn't said anything is going to be easy. Time and time again he's said that it is going to take work and sacrifice and people need to take some personal responsibility. He's said things may get started during his first and/or second term but that might not even be enough time to undo all the crap we've gotten into in a Kennedy like mold.

dyna mo 01-19-2009 10:47 PM

onwebcam 01-19-2009 11:07 PM

People are in for a world of disappointment. Obama and Rahm Emanuel where the biggest cheerleaders of the bailouts. He's in the bankers pockets and the bankers are the root of the problem. Unless he plans on turning on his buddies and killing off his cabinet members as soon as he's in office then count on a rough four years. Just by his cabinet members tells me that it's nothing but more of the same. But then you have his handlers Brzezinski and Soros and you've got GWB on crack. It has nothing to do with his race for me, I voted for him. I drank the cool aid.. But as soon as he made his picks because I know these peoples history it all became quite apparent. Nothing but more of the same.

There is a solution to the mess but it involves cutting off the very people who surround him and that I can now guarantee you he's not going to do. What he will do is ask each and every one of us to sacrifice our lives and futures so they can live their controlling and manipulating lavish lives. We'll be asked to give up more of our money, time and freedoms to "pay" our way through the mess. That's if you have any left after it was stolen by these people via stock market crashes and manipulation, oil price manipulation, inflation, current deflation etc, etc.

Sure, I agree the media is being zealous in their coverage of Everything Obama...but its one of those momentous historical events worthy of media saturation.

What we have is a melting pot of several events worth celebrating in a big way.

Not only is the U.S. getting a new charismatic leader tomorrow - but the entire nation is breathing a collective sigh of relief and rejoicing that Bush's sorry ass is finally out the door. Good fucking riddance...amen!

With the economy in the shitter...people need a distraction - something hopeful to rally behind. Even if its just a faint hope that things will slowly improve - its better than nothing.

I don't expect him to work any miracles. It will take years upon years of steady, dedicated effort for all of us to un-do the damage we collectively have done.

But damn, the man makes me feel like it's possible.

Hope springs eternal.
