Cool "must have" tools

So I bought ACDSee a month ago based on some recommendations and it essentially paid for itself that same day. I felt pretty stupid afterwards for not having it sooner.

What other cool tools are we missing out on and what do they do?

Jdoughs 04-12-2009 08:19 PM

WinAVI Flv Converter is one I use quite often. (converts to flv)

XENU is another one I use quite frequently. (spiders urls for broken files/links/images)

Power Article Rewriter, bad ass piece of software. (self explanatory)

Revo Uninstaller is free and works awesome--it cleans up unwanted files. Even uninstalls files that are very hard to uninstall.

Looks a bit like Photoimpact? I have been a photoimpact nut for years and it smartsaver pro thing which was like a godsend when I discovered it for resizing whole batches of pics. When I first got it years back it literally took what used to take me a whole day to do and did in in about 15 minutes.

Sarah_Jayne 04-13-2009 04:32 AM

For me, I still need Type It In. I know it has pretty much been the same bit of software for years now but it is something I feel naked without when working.

Not worth the trial for everyone no, but for those of us who like to make money with our time tools that eat up minutes save us weeks of work in a year. Not to mention the revenues from being more efficient.

to me, that's total crap too.. i know where all my stuff is, why do i want some process hogging resources indexing shit for me? if i REALLY need a file i'll use the search that comes with windows and wait it out.. but that rarely happens.

to each his own

For what type of work? That's kind of a broad question.

Not really. Everyone else is posting similar types of software.

Some of the other programs mentioned in this thread I use as well and they are very handy.

TextPad is a program that I have been using for over 10 years. There may be something better out there by now I'm sure but I love this one. It's basically a text file editor, Notepad on drugs.

ColorPic...for grabbing a particular color you see on a page somewhere to get the code to then use it in Pshop or something (I typically use it to match backgrounds like my av). Only problem is links that change colors upon hover, though there might be some options in it to get around that - I've never really taken a good look into it.

Look into the colorzilla plugin for firefox. It's probably more suited to what you're doing.

For a salesperson or someone on the go who needs a computer for email, web, etc...the Dell Mini 9 is my new "must have" tool.

Plus it runs OSX.

BBEdit from BareBones Software

Going to have to vote for MS Office Onenote 2007.

It's very easy to write up some technical documentation, how tos, etc as you can easily grab screenshots, add voice, etc. Definitely very handy...

Oh yeah not to mention it's much easier than opening 100 different notepad sessions with scattered notes.
