Have you seen/heard of Google Wave?
I just watched a video of the demo and it's actually pretty cool.

Don't have time to watch a one hour youtube clip!! What does it do?

It does a lot and can be customized with extension built by anyone. I watched the whole video, but it's hard for me to explain everything. All I know is that it will have many uses even in the porn industry. I'm sure that there are many in this industry that watch this will see what I mean. I wish that I could give you complete details, but I'd have to watch the video again and write down everything to give you a better idea of what it is, what it can do and what it can be used for. |
I guess I could have mentioned 1 of the features.. Picture how you send/receive emails now and in the past.
With this you can basically turn the email into a live chat instead of going back and forth replying to emails.. Whoever is in your "group" they can see what you type as you type it. The spell checker is very cool.. If the spell checked feels confident enough it will correct your mistake on its own.. Unlike other spell checkers the Google Wave one doesn't just go buy the word you typed wrong, but the context that the word was used in. It will read the entire sentence the word was used in and correct it on its own if it feels confident enough or underline it in red (like in Firefox) Also, there a translator that can be used in real time chats and from what I saw the translator is much better than the shitty ones I've used on the net. Those are some of the minor things that I remembered. Ok, it was more than 1. haha |
oh and they have a thing on Google Wave that they call "Bloggy" which can turn whatever you type in the "wave" you create into a blog. "Bloggy will publish it onto a blog and make it so it can get replies that you will see on the blog and in your "wave" live. Anyone in your "group" that you have invited to your "wave" will see this also.
You can also use it, for example, lets say you have an html file that has code all fucked up and you don't know what's wrong.. You can start a wave, invite whoever you want to it, paste the html code and they can edit/change things in it live in real time. That's not one of the features, but you can use it for that if you want. It also has a playback feature so that if you joined the "wave" a little late and many edits were made in it you can play back the entire thing right from the begining to see if you missed anything important. |
Creepy google is creepy.
|
If it's free, it'll give paid for apps like GoToMeeting and WebEX a run for their money.
But who knows until it get's some sort of wide release. |
So to put it really simply, Google is going Social?

Friend was talking about it at dinner on Thursday. Sounds like you better read the fine print.

Jump about 5 minutes into the video and you'll be hooked. I'm 20 minutes in and I've said "WOW" about 5 times. The collaboration aspect of this will be HUGE.. and it will change blogging in a BIG way!

like I said, I watched the video and thought it was cool. Other than what was said I don't know anything else. It just sounds and seems cool. |

|
Could be revolutionary...

From the perspective that I'm looking, Google wave is open source and will not be monitored by Google or subject to its ad network. You install it on your servers and develop/modify it as you please.
It appears that this is product will be the first HTML 5 CMS. Nothing ominous about it....so far. |
google's facebook.
|
The fact that it seems like it can be embedded anywhere is a powerful feature as well.
|
looks pretty slick :thumbsup

Thanks for sharing yngwie! :thumbsup

Fuck me I only lasted for 13 seconds hoping the normally monotone announcer (who in his defense varied the tempo in his voice to convey a sense of excitement that would make a carny blush) got through his bit. But then a guy in black horn rimmed glasses, collared shirt tucked into jeans with "un-chikable" shoes came out...
... ok I'm gonna watch more, I have to determine if he was intentionally trying to pull off geek sheik or no. I should back space all of that and go to bed, pick up my chips before I push in with a 9-5 off suit... ... or at least before I type another poker analogy. |
CORRECTION: I scrolled back to the beginning of the video to make sure I didn't jump the gun with regards to his shoes. I'll tentatively retract my earlier statement since I just filled in the blanks by putting him in white sneakers (the jogging kind never used for jogging, not white skate shoes) but he is in fact wearing black shoes.
Wait, black shoes with dark pants and a nearly white shirt, tsk tsk faux pau. |

Crap I waited too long, I can't edit my last post out :(

I just read some good replays about this , i am thinking of using this
|
looks like it would be very useful in a corporate environment
|
I'm a half hour into the video and I WILL be using this on BVF...It would be an easy and effective way to build a more interactive community instead of static one way interaction like it is now..
What they said in the first few minutes summed it up...."What if email was invented today?"....This application was meant to replace both emails, messageboards, instant messaging, and blogging and merge them into one with real time interaction. |

That can take sex chat to the next level. |

Shit, a few people talking, posting pics and writing about the girls in the photo, and all of it gets published to a blog in real-fucking-time. This will really change how we do a lot of things. I'm already laughing at the surfers who will be creating my new blogs for me :winkwink: |
