I think I bit more than I can chew.. This is alot of work

I'm so sore and tired all the time for the last three weeks.

I reached a point in life where I was pretty much sick and fucking tired of the busy bullshit everywhere.. Like mobbed stores, traffic, people.. mostly people.. I got fucking sick of everything and just wanted peace and quiet.

So, I moved off the beach and picked up a property out in the fucking boondocks.

Ok, so here I am and have this huge fucking house with a garage, a barn and a shed that sits on I don't know how many fucking acres and surrounded by woods.

So, I decide that I'm going to farm, lol

In the last three weeks I have planted 70 rows of corn, 24 tomato plants, 16 pepper plants, 20 cucumber plants, 20 pumpkins, 50 bean, 50 pea, 6 egg plant, 40 squash, 15 potato, 12 onion, 10 spinach, 10 zucchini and 30 carrot.

My wife thinks I went nuts, lol.. cause I picked up a dozen chickens and 2 goats.
This coming week I'm looking to add a dog, a pair of rabbits and a horse. :1orglaugh

Anyway, man, I think I created too much work for myself. I wish I had a fucking tractor, lol

Va2k 06-06-2009 04:10 PM

GigoloJustin 06-06-2009 04:26 PM

Tell your wife that she should be glad your midlife crisis didn't include hookers and blow ;)

and to buy you any dog, rabbit, and cock you want.. er.. I mean chicken ;)

Socks 06-06-2009 05:03 PM

Holy shit man.. I've wanted to move to Mexico for a long time now...

But I never thought of MAKING MEXICO HERE???? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Whereabouts man? Sounds like a cool place. Always good to learn things you can use in old age, like gardening. Chess and golf are also great things you can do into your oldies.

But be prepared, you're going to be a really bad farmer for the first year or three at least. It's not easy at all.

PurrrsianPussyKat 06-06-2009 05:04 PM

Holy crap.. who's going to eat all that food?

I planted 3 cucumber plants last summer and I was giving them away by the bag full to family and neighbors!

Fat Panda 06-06-2009 05:07 PM

holy mother fucking shit

JamesK 06-06-2009 05:15 PM

2 goats? That's awesome.

leg4 06-06-2009 05:22 PM

Coulda been worse...

You could have went the "Falling Down" route.

Agent 488 06-06-2009 05:22 PM

sounds like you would need a ryder truck filled with fertilizer for all that.

FrozenJag 06-06-2009 05:26 PM

Buy a tractor for real. No farm is a farm without a tractor at the least.

Mr Pheer 06-06-2009 05:42 PM

How did you plant 70 rows of corn without a tractor? Other people here may fall for it, but I grew up up in East Texas and I know that you dont plant 70 rows of anything without some agricultural machinery help.

I think we can safely assume he meant 70 corn plants, as everything else was numbered by plant and not row.

The Other Sweetie 06-06-2009 06:06 PM

You're going to get real tired from those goats pretty quick when you realize how much they shit those annoying little turd pellets all over the place. lol

Yes sir. 2 packages of seed which are actually hard dried corn kernels.

No machinery. All I got is some metal rakes, couple of shovels and a digging spoon. I got one of those fertilizer spreader thingies, but it's not powered.. just walk around and push it.

They get added to the compost piles with the chicken shit and kitchen waste.

I had to buy 2 pounds of worms for the compost. Will save me from having to buy fertilizer.

$25 for a pound of red wriggly worms.. 1000 worms per pound..

As for the chicken shit, since I never owned chickens before I had to read on backyardchickens.com and they say to let some of the shit compost on the floor and cover with pine shavings so the composting process generates heat for the winter.. but I won't be doing that until October.

HorseShit 06-06-2009 06:53 PM

So you went insane?

Give me some time. I suppose all these fucking bugs will drive me crazy.

Actually, I found a few things around here that annoy me. The driveway.. my house is on a hill and the roads in and out are dirt and gravel and the driveway is two horseshoe shapes.. one that goes up and turns in front of house then back down, but if you don't turn and go straight instead, it brings you out back behind the house and around.

My van don't like climbing the hill.. :1orglaugh Already dug some holes with my tires.

Also, the hill is a pain in the fucking balls going down on my motorcycle.. :1orglaugh

The water is a pain in the ass too since it's well water and tastes like shit.. stinks too sometimes... had to scrub the fuck out of the sinks, tub and toilet when I moved in to remove the reddish tint.. Magnesium something I think is what they told me.. Anyway, I'm supposed to open the well and add some water softener.. Gotta fuck with this well just to see what needs to be done as I need to figure out how to make the pump run on a generator if there's ever a power outage, which I imagine may happen a few times over the winter considering all the wires run through the goddamn forest in front of the house.

I had to buy several gallons of spring water per week because of this.

Oh.. fucking ticks.. I found one in my navel.. cocksucker bit me.. the people at backyardchickens.com told me to let my chickens roam around since they eat ticks.. But I bought 2 40lb bags of ant & tick granules to spread around the house and don't want the chickens eating it..

Every night a raccoon is on our porch eating garbage.. been trying to catch the critter on camera, but he's a smart fucker and gets away before I can white balance and record.

At night, it's pitch fucking black out other than the moon and stars.. hearing crickets, birds and other sounds of nature at night is so much better than all the man made noise I had to deal with before.. I actually like it, but sort of creeps me out sometimes when I hear twig snapping kind of sounds in the wee hours of the night.

xxxdesign-net 06-06-2009 07:34 PM

living the dream... now you need a rifle and a rocking chair :winkwink:

Brujah 06-06-2009 07:43 PM

How many acres?

The Other Sweetie 06-06-2009 08:00 PM

I miss that peace & quiet. I live at the beach and I'm ready to go back and get country again. Used to do that well water, chop wood, burn barrel shit and that's too Little House on the Prairie for me now, but what I wouldn't give for that sheer quiet and solitude again. Can't stand all this tourist shit every year.

Give it time and those raccoons will get pretty comfy with you. Had a raccoon used to eat the cat food outside my door. Then it turned into a damn family of them. Got to the point where they wouldn't even run when I'd open the door or turn on the spotlight. They'd just stop eating and give me a "Fuck You" look and then keep on eating with me standing not even 2 feet away. Give em enough time and you'll be able to snap a pic of them flipping you the bird. lol

Lol ... 1 zucchini plant will produce more than all of your carrot, spinach, and onion combined. Your numbers/ratios are way off!

And where is this location to be planting this late in the season?

Kudos anyways for getting started. I have my first big garden this year and it really is great getting away from the computer and working out there. Gardening and getting a great harvest and variety is a SCIENCE!

Zorgman 06-06-2009 09:46 PM

I know what your wife is thinking.

GET BACK TO FUCKING WORK!!

Mr. Billy 06-06-2009 10:07 PM

Living here in the silicon valley, I see ads for property located in the countryside 2 or 3 hundered miles away and it seems tempting sometimes. It certainly is more affordable that what you can buy here for your money. But that will probably be a retirement thing if I do it.
