The whole game was good. Loved the volley of them at the net! Plus no line judges were told to "Go die!"

***SPOILERS***

.

.

The shot itself is awesome obviously, but just the fact that it was the point to set up a triple match point is what's crazy. Imagine being Djokovich watching that happen, then realizing "oh yea, it's now triple match point against me...fuck."

Amazing for how well Djokovich played that he lost in straight sets. Del Potro is playing really well though so not sure the final will be a gimme for Fed.

Jayvis 09-13-2009 08:37 PM

Wow, that is simply incredible.

The Demon 09-13-2009 09:03 PM

I'm not sure ANYBODY can beat Del Potro right now. This guy is absolutely amazing. He raped Nadal like Nadal hasn't been raped before(granted he was injured). His forehand is sick and his serve is fast. I'm actually putting money on him in 5 sets tomorrow.

L-Pink 09-13-2009 09:06 PM

unreal!!!

Danny B 09-13-2009 09:19 PM

Wow, that's what I call a confidence killer for Djokovich.

Supz 09-13-2009 09:40 PM

I was at this match, 5th row behind Djokovich, when the match was over. federer said it was the best shot of his career.

Supz 09-13-2009 09:48 PM

This was not long before that shot.

Damn, nice. I wish I could've been there. The only tourney I've gone to was mens semis/womens final at Indian Wells about a decade back...got to see Agassi and Sampras (in separate semis, both won) and Serena I believe. Was nice but nothing like a US Open atmosphere. This year's Open has been pretty exciting.

gecko 09-13-2009 10:42 PM

that was an awesome shot

yea, i wish the match was a little bit closer. i am a big djokovich fan, he just didnt bring his A game against federer today. the crowd & the players were both into it though. they definitely played a little for the crowd. I stuck around for the womens finals, with no Williams sister or hot russian chic, it was very boring.

DavieVegas 09-14-2009 01:05 AM

Hes fuckin amazing. I am a semi pro tennis player and went to college on a full ride scholarship etc and this guy is just unreal. The amazing shot aside, he is the best ever without human growth hormones or any steroids like nadal and verdasco has used. He will have a tough match against del potro though...cant wait.

sexandcash 09-14-2009 03:22 AM

he is so much better looking than his wife! That's a step down for sure!

So funky that he seemed to target the shot...so many people hitting that between the legs shot hit it straight backward, which Djoko would have been in perfect position for...as much as Federer said afterwards he only has pulled that shot off a few times in matches ever, I would not be surprised if he purposely targeted that shot to the side to help win the point vs. simply get it back, which is what separates great players from champions IMO. Insane!

Evil Chris 09-14-2009 07:44 AM

Hasn't Agassi scored big with that shot as well? I mean years ago.

John-ACWM 09-14-2009 07:45 AM

What kind of drugs are you on retard? And you can't call him the best ever if he is thoroughly dominated by one opponent. I believe his record against Nadal is 7-13? Sampras had no peer.

kmanrox 09-14-2009 08:58 AM

not that anyone will believe it.. but i've done that in match competitions no fewer than 20 times.... but overall i still am not even close to pro level lol what a rush it is to actually pull it off and it *is* easier than it looks...

Andy Murray has a 6-2 record against Federer, it doesnt really mean shit. He can call him the best player of all time for the simple fact he is the most successful male tennis player of all time, he has won more than Sampras did and he still has 5 or more years to go until he gets to the age sampras was when he retired.

To do what Federer does and to win as many championships as he has won WITH a peer that can beat only goes to show you how great he is. He has a better win percentage more grand slam championships more ATP victories.

He played Sampras once and beat him

Just sayin...

And Sampras played in a tougher era with inferior equipment. G-d only knows what he would do in this era. I saw his matches with Federer at 38. He'd be a top 10 player now.

And Andy Murray's 6-2 record is irrelevant considering he's never beaten him in a major. Nadal has a 5-2 record against Federer IN the majors. Btw, Sampras retired at 30-31.

When all is said and done, and provided he can stay healthy, I'm putting my money on Nadal becoming the greater player of all time.

And your logic is flawed. That's like saying Bill Russell is better than Michael Jordan because he won more titles.

Yea, he beat him once, on Sampras' way out. And Federer had no peer until Nadal came along.Nadal has beaten him on Federer's best surfaces, while Federer has yet to beat him in the French Open. Federer got his grand slam at 28, Nadal will probably do it next year. He's 2-5 against Nadal in grand slams. Federer also has had the luxury of NOT being injured and NOT having a peer until Nadal came along. Sampras had Agassi, Courier, Rafter, Chang, Becker, etc.

tranza 09-14-2009 11:37 AM

Oh yes..that was amazing!!

Chang??? Come on that's a reach man

Greatest Of All Time is rarely objective, too many variables in practically any sport. There are a dozen reasons why Fed is or isn't, as well as Sampras, and let's not forget guys like Rod Laver. Passage of time, changes in the game/equipment, breakthroughs in conditioning/strategy/techniques, there's no real way to say for sure WHO is the GOAT in a sport like tennis without injecting some opinion.

That said, i think Fed is the GOAT in many ways. Unfortunate he isn't facing Nadal today, though if Fed won, the "yeah buts" would be going "yeah but, Nadal was injured" and "yeah but, it isn't on clay" and etc.

No need to make clay arguments anymore as Nadal beat Federer in both the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Federer has yet to prove he can beat Nadal at the French Open. And yes, Nadal didn't pick up a racket for 10 weeks and had an abdominal tear, and yet he still made the semis..

It's ok to be a Nadal fan or a Sampras fan. Really. No justifications necessary.

_Richard_ 09-14-2009 01:43 PM

great shot!
