Rick is the man.

I can't believe Tahoe.net didn't sell for more. Pretty versatile name.

vipmedia 10-03-2009 11:55 AM

We spoke to the owner a few months back but couldnt reach an agreement. Good luck with the sale. Atleast put a whitelabel up, no?

SmokeyTheBear 10-03-2009 12:26 PM

nice name , nobody has much value in the long term anymore with domains, but then again the system could change overnight. I dont see .com's worth vanishing though. Great price.

Hotrocket 10-03-2009 12:45 PM

Killer Domain...Good Luck with the sale!

jay23 10-03-2009 12:47 PM

I was talking about this with a client of mine who has the $$. His question was cant we buy some other domain that is close for 5K and spend 495K in marketing and bring that domain to the same level ?

For example I own 247xxx.com , i doubt its worth even 100 bucks but if i spend 500k in branding can that domain get to the same level as this

SlickCash 10-03-2009 12:55 PM

Great domain name Rick.

alias 10-03-2009 12:56 PM

Marketing is better than domain value currently, was joking about the 20k offer but I can see the money better used in that manner. Anyone who wants to do both, no problem. I just hope that they have deep pockets.

or you can throw 495k in the toilet by accident when a 500k domain produces built-in revenues day in and day out

Is type ins worth that much these days ? i was working at sex.com after it got bought few years ago. Those days domain names were big. I need to go to the TRAFFIC conference that I have not been to in few years to understand the current market.

beefbarron 10-03-2009 01:32 PM

So this is how you sell your domains eh. I need to get some of your contacts.

Funny you should mention that. I'm selling 247live.com at 50k as well. It used to be a cam site so it has some long-tail traffic already.

BlackCrayon 10-03-2009 03:36 PM

Way better domains have sold for way less.

Awesome domain for the cam niche. I hope whoever buys it has a much better plan of action than the guy who bought camgirls.com for 350k

You can... but if you fail with the marketing all you are left with is a 5K domain. So the risk of losing your money is much greater.

The advantages of a good domain name is at least you have some built in traffic and if you fail with your project you should be able to at least sell the domain back for what you paid for it.

Pros and cons both ways.

If you only have 500K to spend and you spend it all on a domain then you have no operational cash left over to do anything, aka camgirls.com

LMAO.... no. but ofcourse a domain name seller would want to sell you on all of that type in revenue!!!!

ask camgirls.com how much type in traffic he is getting.

Currrent typins are just a small fraction of a domain names worth. Beside other obvious factors (length, untapped SE searches etc.), then a good domain name has built-in niche leader/authority (ex. what looks/sound more trustworthy? Livecams.com or 247livecams.com), which makes the traffic more potent?

The name should also be able to make the jump from solely inhouse/affiliate marketing to multiple communities marketing - this means someone else beside the domain owner can get some value (social currency) from spreading the name - meaning the name has to be self-explanatory, sound natural as a noun (ex. "check out live cams dot com" vs. "check out 247 live cams dot com), and if its a real killer domain, then it also has verb use, so the name can be worked into the language/slang itself (ex. the amount of free branding Google.com is getting from all the people that "googles for things on the internet" is why you donīt see alot of google ads on TV - they donīt need to, they have becomed the verb for "searching" on the internet).

Livecams.com has alot of the above criterias - only thing missing is the built-in verb usage, but only a handfull of domains comes with existing or latent verb use (actual I can only think of a few domain names in the cam sex industry that has existing or latent verb use :winkwink: )
