Why do people get married?
 

I don't get it. What's the point of getting married? The average divorce rate is like 50% for first time marriages and gets even worse after that.

Yet thousands of people keep getting married every year. :1orglaugh

Society dictates a lot of things that people really should not be doing. Marriage, in my mind, is an archiac and out dated ritual. On top of that it is something that is ingrained into the heads of women from the time they are very young, not all, but most.

Most people have no clue who they are, let alone how they should actually function inside of a partnership. Yet, they get married, then start to realize that they are completely different and want different things from life. Therefore they end up divorced, or miserable.

If people spent more time figuring out what makes them happy, and what brings them joy in life before they jump into long term relationships, they will find they will be far happier in the long run.

This is also why the divorce rate drops a ton when people wait till after 30 to get married.

I'm getting married for health insurance. My girl and I have been together 5 years and have 2 kids. She's been married and down that road before, so we weren't going to bother with it.

BUT...paying $350+ each month for my health insurance when I could be piggybacking on hers is getting to be a bit ridiculous.

It depends a lot where do you live. In small towns or more primitive cultures it is life goal. I think that its roots are from old times where people could only live if they split obligations. Today, when you have fast food,transportation, internet,kindergardens and all this devices helping you in life, there is no need for something like that. At the end, paper means nothing (at least for me). 95% of people I know that are married are not satisfied and always tell me: "Why I need this shit for?". I am sure that many people won't agree, but this is my opinion.

My sister and brother in law had a HUGE wedding that my parents paid for.

They pocketed about $30k from the 400 or so people who attended the wedding.

So, money could be a consideration.

I've been married 12 years, been with her in a relationship before that for 7, and like anything else done in life, there are ups and downs, but we are very happy and far from poor.

I wonder what a lot of these people will think about marriage in their old age when family isn't visiting them because they're all dead, they have no kids or grand kids to take care of them and they are sitting in a chair in some shitty retirement home waiting for death to come.

I have one son thats 18 and ones that 14 and it is embarrassing but I cannot wait to be a grandpa........well I can wait till they are established and married but still, I AM looking forward to it

its not about getting your ass wiped. I will say marriage is not for everyone but out of everything I have done, seen and experienced in my 43 years having a family has been the best by far and my reason for getting out of bed every day :)

Fuck this is bad, most replies to this are negative, what is wrong with marriage - my wife and I have been married for 15 years, I would hate to be in a situation that leads to me being alone on my own and having to bang escorts and have nothing to go back to...shit my wife allows that, after all we are in the adult industry. We all here earn here our income from sex one way or the other - what could be worse than working in the sex industry, being alone and promoting something that you do not practice.
