Kevin Smith booted from plane for being "too fat to fly"

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...,5181078.story

Filmmaker Kevin Smith, fresh from delivering a speech at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, unleashed his fury on Southwest Airlines after the pilot on Smith's flight from Oakland to Burbank ejected him for being "too fat to fly" Saturday evening.

Arnox 02-14-2010 12:00 PM

Ahaha. Silent Bob.

AaronM 02-14-2010 12:01 PM

Time for a movie about airlines.

Amputate Your Head 02-14-2010 12:01 PM

Happens all the time.

EdgeXXX 02-14-2010 12:03 PM

Did he gain a lot of weight or something? I mean, he's always been overweight but "too fat to fly" makes me think something along the lines of morbidly obese.

dav3 02-14-2010 12:17 PM

Should the captain really get rid of an extra, potentially vital, flotation device for his plane?

Fat Panda 02-14-2010 12:18 PM

what a fat fucking loser

sortie 02-14-2010 12:31 PM

Now just kick off all the other ugly motherfuckers who stink with bad breath and I'm flying again. LOL!

Amputate Your Head 02-14-2010 12:35 PM

I still wish they'd implement a "Too Fucking Annoying To Fly" policy and start kicking off all the screaming, seat-kicking, snot-nosed, whining goddamned brat children.

First airline to do that will be a massive success.

:2 cents:

BV 02-14-2010 12:36 PM

Seems like they keep making the seats smaller and smaller.

the last pics I saw of him he was very obese, and in fact, it was an article about him wanting to diet because he would not see his child grow up or something man. He's done a bunch of interviews about his weight.

Good question? I thought the same.

that is the thing, I read his twitter where he said the flight was only half full so space is not the issue. Maybe they knew who he was and first class was empty so they were trying to get him to upgrade and it turned nasty.. I've seen far bigger people than that in one seat on full flights.

BFT3K 02-14-2010 02:19 PM

How do you think the airlines make the decision?

By eye?

By overall weight, after the passenger steps on a scale?

Based upon passenger complaints?

Do they decide AFTER the person is in their seat?

Anyone know?

JD 02-14-2010 02:34 PM

gotta be something more than just him being fat. I've seen some fat bastards in planes before and after a certain girth they just make you pay for a 2nd seat

NaughtyRob 02-14-2010 02:35 PM

Every one of his movies kick ass. I love him.

JP513 02-14-2010 02:47 PM

He's a great director but I'm tired of sitting next to fat fucks whose belly hangs over the armrest into my seat. Those people need to buy a 2nd seat. Case closed. Southwest was right.

Jarmusch 02-14-2010 02:50 PM

Kevin should get in touch with this guy to get some tips:

I did not see where it said he was sitting in coach?

I guess I had ASSumed that a fancy celebrity would be sitting in first class. If someone is having fatso issues in a wider, more comfortable, first class seat, I think SW has a valid point.

the bottom line is this....he's a fat fuck slob, have another twinkie, fat fuck

For those with no clue about aviation, Southwest is all economy.

They do not have Southwest flights in the greater part of the midwest (except Mid Way outside of Chicago). Some handy reading for you.

So I recommend you take your own advice, and go buy yourself a clue. Especially the ASSuming part that people would have this knowledge about a low cost, or economy carrier and their seating, in a market they do not fly to.

pamon 02-15-2010 12:22 AM

southwest is facing some dangerous PR on this. ouch

They fucked with the wrong that guy has more media advertising pull that all of SWA, Im sure they wish they get sued for millions rather than loos a million flights at $200 bucks a piece.

Whats this Twitter bullshit anyway, Don't people know how to apologize in person.

Sarah_Jayne 02-15-2010 04:12 AM

Firstly, let me start this by saying Clerks is my favourite film of all time and I have been a fan of Kevin since it first came out.

Now, that said, Southwest has for a very long time had the rule that if you are over a certain weight you need to buy two seats. I know this because when I was at my highest weight I had to do so with them several times. Well, I didn't *have* to but I did because they made it clear in their company policy that if they thought you were too big and you hadn't already booked two seats and the flight was full you would be bounced. So, I always did just to save the chance of embarrassment and missing a flight.

Each and every time Southwest were very nice about it and highly professional. In exchange, you got priority boarding which meant you get to pick your seat rather than do the rush for a seat that happens for everybody else. It is almost worth paying that extra anyway to not have anybody sitting next to you and not having to be waiting in line to board for ages.

So, my guess is he didn't read the materials and could have just bought a second seat. Which, surely he can afford. Instead he kicked up a fuss.

Also, the last time I saw him in London (like six months ago) smoking weed had become pretty much the focus of his life. So, there is also the possibility that he stunk of that and it added to them wanting to bump him.

nico-t 02-15-2010 04:40 AM

good, no place for fat slobs in tiny airplane seats

Raf1 02-15-2010 06:03 AM

whatever the cause, they're getting a lot of bad publicy from this and I don't think it will do them any good.

ShellyCrash 02-15-2010 07:19 AM

They keep running a teaser for the story on the morning news but they haven't shown it yet, curious to see what his weight is at currently.

http://www.jfxonline.com/wp-content/.../08/jokev3.jpg

He was on a talk show about a year ago, I want to say Conan but I'm not sure, but I was pretty shocked at how big he had gotten. He said that he was starting a diet though because he sat on a toilet and actually broke it. God, that's gotta suck.

Southwest is a shit airline anyway, but they are cheap. I wonder if they gave him the option to buy two seats and he declined. Seems like someone like him would want to spend the extra $$ just to not have to deal with the situation.
