CIVMatt 08-09-2010 08:32 AM

Surprised there are NO pictures posted yet

sponsorpimp 08-09-2010 08:37 AM

Didn?t go this year still waiting to hear from folks about it all?

CamTraffic 08-09-2010 08:37 AM

slower than expected but still worth the effort and expenses...

alexchechs 08-09-2010 08:39 AM

It was a slow show but still got to do a bit of biz

Sharky 08-09-2010 08:44 AM

People were much more focused on biz and less on partying. I expected a ton of consumers, but don't think I saw any to be honest. I didn't go to the novelty/retail show floor though.

Biz was indeed done, but I think it's clear the show has run it's course. If it continues, I imagine it will be held at a much smaller venue that is more affordable for small webmasters. $25 for a half rate breakfast buffet is ridiculous.

does that buffet include a lap dance for that price? lol

Brad Mitchell 08-09-2010 10:22 AM

Attendance was clearly at an all time low. That said, it was still an excellent venue and we were very happy with the amount of business we got done. As I always say, its not about quantity of attendees but quality of interaction that is the judge of a venue. I am of the opinion that anyone who shows up to work and do business will likely succeed at any conference - in fact - that 300-500 attendees is easier to work.

Cheers,

Brad

mikem123 08-09-2010 10:45 AM

did anyone go to the hardrock for the party?

Robbie 08-09-2010 11:06 AM

Good to hear that some people made some money at the show. :)

I do have one question though...how does not having many people around cause everybody to suddenly become "more focused on business"?

I've never been to a show where people weren't doing business. Every show I've ever went to I had a list of folks I wanted to see and specific things I wanted to do.

I'm usually able to accomplish that in one day. And at past shows, when the shows were bigger and had sponsored parties...I usually got everything on my list done the night BEFORE the show started at the "pre-show party".

It seemed those pre-show night before parties were always the most productive for me.

Anyway, back to being more "focused" on business and less on "partying"

How the heck does that happen? lol

I read that more and more as the shows get worse and worse.

I would assume that just like every show from the past...folks would do their "official" "business" (you know...the: "I have porn" "Hey! So do I!" "Let's do a x-sell!" "Okay!" thing) during the day, and then have some drinks and good times at night (the "party" part of the equation) and build relationships and friendships.

Did that not happen? Was their such a laser beam "focus on business" that you couldn't tell a porn convention from a insurance salemens' convention?

Come on guys...tell the truth! Y'all had to do SOMETHING right? How many hours does it take to put on the "serious face" and discuss porn sales? Please tell me there was at least ONE party that everybody attended?

Sly 08-09-2010 11:09 AM

I have porn. Who wants to do business?

On a serious note, Robbie, you can't possibly "meet" everyone at a show in one night. A lot of people "get business" by meeting new people throughout the show. You may head into a show planning on speaking with certain people, which everyone should do, but you pick up new leads as the show goes on.

In your particular line of business, maybe that's not true, but for many others it is.

Absolutely you can't meet everyone in one night. I meant I usually can take care of meeting the list of people I have pre-arranged on the first night.

Then the rest of the show I like to get a chance to say hi to old friends and business partners and IF there is a good party where it's not too loud to talk...make new ones and create new business. :)

EDIT: And...I have porn too. Let's do business! Shit, I forgot...I've already been a Top Bucks affiliate since Kevin opened the doors. Damn it! Anybody else got porn? I am FOCUSED baby! lol

crazytrini85 08-09-2010 11:13 AM

Next year the show will be at Applebees.

Book early, it will be a sold out event. Only $2000 a badge.

I've already booked it. The Motel 6 across the street is the host hotel for the event.

Room rates are normally $25 a night. But the "internext special" gets those rooms for you at 3 nights for $1500

Also Applebees will be having "internext special" pricing on the menu as well. $25 hamburgers and $10 beers! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

The hotel is right across the street...but AVN has hired PeteKT as a crossing guard to walk groups of webmasters across the street. Just meet in the parking lot of the hotel. Pete will be walking groups over every 15 minutes.

billywatson 08-09-2010 12:10 PM

What show is everyone talking about? lol

DatingGold 08-09-2010 01:56 PM

I thought it was a good show. If you weren't able to do some business there then you don't know how to do business lol.

It seems there are more people there to do business and alot less of the show up with your five buddies from college crowd.

michael.kickass 08-09-2010 02:02 PM

I think I'll do my best to be there next time. :upsidedow

czarina 08-09-2010 02:05 PM

didn't go, I don't go out of town unless it is with my kid (and husband). Once my son turns 15, I will start going again and take him to the shows with me (will buy him a fake mustache)

Mr. Cool Ice 08-09-2010 02:05 PM

Everyone has to say they got business done so they can justify their expenses, especially if someone else was paying for the show.

Good or bad, everyone will always say it was productive. That is how you know it was bad. If it was good, everyone would say it was great, it kicked ass, and no one would have to make threads asking what everyone else thought about it. Your neutral posts are enough to tell me it was a lame show.

"I had a lot of meetings" translates to, "this show sucked ass but I have to say it was productive so my boss will send me to the next one." You don't need "meetings" to be productive. Also, those of you who stroke everyone else day and night have to say it was a good show. It's the bro thing to do.

I did, $33 cab ride each way, once there the table was ordering bottle service. The fucking bus boy kept taking my 3/4 full drinks. Called him on it, almost came to a fight.

Complained to the manager, he gave me a drink ticket, told him I'd just rather not have my drinks stolen.
About 5 mins later my new fucking drink dissapeared, at that time I said Fuck it and left. BEWARE of GRYPHON Niht club at the Hard Rock complex, fucking Crooks:mad:

It's the number of business owners and decision makers attending any show, not the total sum of attendees. I rather go to a show with 60 DMU's for dinner or drinks alone, then to a show with 1200 people attending & jumping naked into a pool all day.

That sounds good in theory. :)

But back when there were only two shows a year ALL of the owners were there, the business was done, the dinners were attended...and at the end of the day we also had the cool sponsored parties AND the naked girls in the pool. I liked it better like that.

I did not say the nakkid side effect is wrong in any way :winkwink: It's good for the eyes, hell yeah!. But not the reason to visit a show from across the pond.

So we agree. You know what I mean Robbie :pimp
Pool stuff is always a bonus. Business comes first.

Interesting point.

I see much the same has happened with webmaster forums over the past years. Everyone wanted a piece of the forum pie much like every company wanted a piece of the show pie, and now even gfy is way down on what it was.. with many others either dead or just marking time. Infact there is probably only 1 new awm forum growing at a solid pace amongst the many startups in the last 2 years.... not enough wm's to go around.

MattO 08-09-2010 03:28 PM

I had a great time, wasn't expecting IA2000, but was happy to relax and talk with people.

I didn't realize anyone got up early enough to actually eat breakfast.

Got stuffed on sushi at the hotel bar for less than 30 bucks.

Surnburnt as hell, plenty of free beverages and poolside enjoyment.

Very interesting to talk to the toy products folks, makes me consider getting involved into more hard goods action.

Got to finally meet Buttman.

No complaints.
