http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_1...02-503544.html Mr. Obama has in the past expressed his opposition to legalizing marijuana. The document released today argues that the administration is opposed to the idea because keeping drugs illegal reduces their availability and lessens people's willingness to use them. "Diagnostic, laboratory, clinical, and epidemiological studies clearly indicate that marijuana use is associated with dependence, respiratory and mental illness, poor motor performance, and cognitive impairment, among other negative effects, and legalization would only exacerbate these problems," the document states. The Obama Justice Department last year said it would not seek to arrest users or providers or medical marijuana, so long as they are in compliance with state laws. However, Gil Kerlikowske, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, last month declined to speculate on what actions the Obama administration would take if the ballot initiative passed in California, the Hill reported." |

Cali's pot is a $14 billion dollar industry whereas the second highest earning commodity is milk at $7 billion. It would save 1 billion just in prisons and Oakland anticipates it would net $12 million per year. The stoners obviously don't want the tax but it will also put the local growers who are off the grid to lose their job essentially. |

thus my not sure stance. not to mention, it's pretty easy to get set-up to legally smoke. |
Meg Whitman has already broken U.S. political spending records by dumping $140 million into her campaign, and yet she still trails Jerry Brown in the polls.
Meg was born with a silver/gold/platinum spoon in her mouth. All she is, comes from her old money family dynasty. She really has no politics of her own, as someone already posted: Arnold played his role as "Acting" Governor, and he failed to change much of anything for the positive during his tenure. All Meg seems to do is parrot Arnold's same tired old PR crafted words which are devoid of any substance, and change nothing except the name etched on the door to the Governor's mansion. To me, Jerry Brown is not simply a politician for his ego, nor is he merely trying to primarily serve the big money interests like Arnold and Meg Whitman. Brown has always struck me as a pragmatic, optimistic, public servant, and for that I respect him, and therefore I will vote for him in the upcoming election. ADG |
Do you people not realize that even if California legalizes pot on the state level, it is STILL ILLEGAL under Federal Law and Federal Law TRUMPS State Law?
There is a real confrontation brewing here and I LOVE it! |

Rose Elizabeth Bird (November 2, 1936–December 4, 1999) served for 10 years as the 25th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of California. She was the first female Justice, and first female Chief Justice, on that court, appointed by then Governor Jerry Brown. In the November 1986 state election she also became the only Californian Chief Justice to be removed from office by the voters, primarily due to her ultra-liberal rulings.

So if you enjoy giving money to people that don't deserve it via higher taxes, go right ahead. Personally, I believe churches and freeway off-ramps are much better solution and only effect the wallets of the bleeding hearts. |
