Is that a decent bike?

A beginner as in never rode or owned a bike before? then yes, too much bike

I'm not a Harley fan but I think they are good bikes for sure.

MaDalton 01-16-2011 11:57 AM

looking good

better than some racing bike that will make you kill yourself without experience

I don't want to die. I just want to putt around and get out of the city on occasion.

It is a nice looking bike, but, I don't know about the mileage.

MaDalton 01-16-2011 12:20 PM

i don't consider 25k miles much - but it depends on the price

GTS Mark 01-16-2011 12:22 PM

It's a cruiser, as long as you don't weight 95lbs you should be fine.

Hotrocket 01-16-2011 12:54 PM

Being "too much bike" is really not the issue, its about how you choose to ride it, if you are just going to be a cruiser then its not important. use your head and keep an eye out for the idiots that don't look out for you...THATS the real thing to worry about.

It looks like a very nice bike, 25k miles in 5-6 years is OK but probably tells you the owner rode it regularly but not daily, the only issue I can see from the pics on CL is it looks like a bit of wear on the front brake rotor...

Do you have any riding experience or are you totally a 1st timer?

thanks for the tips. I have never owned or ridden anything but a dirtbike... and I stayed on road with that. I am not looking for anything but to cruise around on occasion and explore :)

dyna mo 01-16-2011 01:16 PM

you'll be fine.

decent/good price, it's a better price if it's fuel injected.

DiF0r 01-16-2011 01:16 PM

It depends what's in your head... But it's a nice bike

dyna mo 01-16-2011 01:20 PM

in fact, i'd show up to look at that bike with $8500 cash in my pocket and pending everything looking good, show the guy the cash money. i bet he'll take it.

Nasty 01-16-2011 01:23 PM

HD's have a nice balance are easy to ride, doubt it's too much bike

Gotta agree there.

I'd buy a cheap one first and start riding. Depending on how frequent u ride the bike, buy a new one after 1 or 2 years.

I've had a few accidents with my zzr600 but to date not with my R1.

MaDalton 01-16-2011 01:27 PM

and i would take the bike (if you can) and do a test ride for at least half an hour to see if it's comfortable for you.

i have always been driving just enduros where the sitting position is totally different - i would not like to sit so low with stretched out arms. but this is of course just my personal taste, otherwise i think that bike looks totally fine.

The 2005 model of this was my very first bike:

I definitely busted that sucker up. My mechanic would come over and work silently, shaking his head the whole time.

Spunky 01-16-2011 02:21 PM

Sweet looking bike,I'm digging it

~Ray 01-16-2011 03:10 PM

thanks everyone. I am still shopping and thinking if I even want one... but that night train is top of the list for used bikes so far.

JFK 01-16-2011 03:13 PM

from the pics it looks pretty well taken care of. Before buying it get a mechanic to look at it, get a compression check. Harleys are work horses, if it was taken care of and not ridden the piss out of, you should get years of enjoyment out of it :thumbsup

adendreams 01-16-2011 03:14 PM

That looks like a entry level harley to me... niiiice!!!

Chosen 01-16-2011 05:09 PM

Nice bike :thumbsup
Have you ever ride one before?

baddog 01-16-2011 05:33 PM

I love mine.

Because they are very light, they are very peppy off the line. Really fun in the city.

candyflip 01-16-2011 08:47 PM

You'll get a different opinion from everyone you ask. Take it for a ride and determine it for yourself.

:1orglaugh - Yeah, let me know how that goes. Not too many people will let you take their bike out for a test ride.

jonnydoe 01-16-2011 11:34 PM

Nice bike but a sporty would be plenty for you as a first bike.

You must know how big (or small) he is to make that determination. What if he is 6'5" and 245 lbs?

ShellyCrash 01-17-2011 01:02 AM

Just my :2 cents: but if it's your first bike ever I would go with something a little cheaper, like a used suziki gz. It's nowhere near as nice as that harley, but it is something you can put around your neighborhood on and if / when you lay it down you're not going to beat yourself up over it.

Around here you can find them for like a grand and then flip them for almost the same when you feel you're ready to graduate to something a little nicer.

~Ray 01-17-2011 06:28 AM

I need something light (I'm a novice) and something nice to look at and own(toys)...as I will probably drive more than ride.

I'm not looking for the biggest baddest anything.

That night train is a work of art.

I'm 5'10" 205lbs

Thanks for the comments.

pornguy 01-17-2011 06:35 AM

Get some cones. Take the Bike to a Big empty parking lot on Sunday. Set up cones. Practice every sunday. Before you know it there will be 10 other people on Sundays doing it with you. You meet some people. You get experience you become a safe rider. any bik is safe as long as you are careful and practice

stephane76 01-17-2011 07:20 AM

i wouldn't go over 500cc... how much of a beginner are you?

You could get a Vulcan 500 for pretty cheap, once you get used to it get a bigger one

MetaMan 01-17-2011 07:21 AM

You will be picking up all the sexy bears in that thing. I'm happy you are open with your sexuality.

John-ACWM 01-17-2011 08:21 AM

Not a fan but that bike looks great!

You are too big for a Sporty, IMO. Take a MSF training class before you buy any bike. Drop theirs instead.

Good advice on the class. I'm 6' and 185. My 1000 sportster was plenty for me solo although I would not want to ride it long distance.

Okay, if he got a 1200 Sportster it would be fine.

WebairGerard 01-17-2011 11:23 AM

baddog 01-17-2011 11:28 AM
