The U.S. has not gone all out since the end of the Second World war. Every military action since then has been just that...a military action.

There are multiple quantifiers but I will use this as a major quantifier. With approximately one third of our current population...at the end of the Second World War we had 16 million Americans in uniform...multiple millions in Theater against the Germans and multiple millions in Theater against the Japanese. In Vietnam we had approximately 500,000 in theater...and approximately the same during the '91 "Gulf War".
