The decision has been made to respect Muslim tradition in burying the body of the most wanted man on earth. A senior administration official tells ABC News, "We are ensuring it is handled in accordance with Islamic practice and tradition. It's something we take seriously and therefore it's being handled in an appropriate manner."
Islamic law dictates that the body be bathed three times in a specific, ritualistic manner, while covered by a cloth. The bathers are generally same-gender family members of the deceased, though this clearly will not be the case for the body in question. After bathing, the body is wrapped in a kafan - generally a white cotton cloth, to protect the modesty of the deceased. Prayers are then said to request forgiveness for the dead. Burial customs vary by region, but it is tradition for the body to be buried the same day as death. In this case, Bin Laden's body is expected to be buried by 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon, before sundown. Traditionally the body is buried in the ground without a casket, with a grave marker that does not rise more than 12 inches above the ground. However, U.S. officials say that Bin Laden is expected to be buried at sea to prevent his gravesite becoming a shrine and to discourage vandalism and grave desecration. As Bin Laden was a citizen of Saudi Arabia, the Saudis will be offered the opportunity to take custody of the body. They may not accept it. [UPDATE]: CNN reports as of 3:20 am EST that Bin Laden's body has already been buried at sea. While surprising for most Americans, this adheres to Islamic tradition as the body has been buried within 24 hours of death |
They have been searching for him for YEARS! The cost must be ENORMOUS!
Then they kill him and just dump him in the sea. Right. :1orglaugh How many had a chance to confirm that it was Osama? |

I wonder if he was the same one who said this interesting comment "He is using very reasonable deductive reasoning, (but) we don't know (bin Laden) is dead," said the official, who requested anonymity. "We don't have remains or evidence of his death. So it is a decent and reasonable conclusion -- a good guess but it is a guess." http://edition.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/as...rraf.binladen/ So now they have remains but no one else can verify whether it's true or not.. ok. More dead Thursday, 18 July, 2002, 09:15 GMT 10:15 UK Bin Laden 'probably' dead http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/2135473.stm Karzai: bin Laden 'probably' dead http://edition.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/as...rzai.binladen/ |
Agent 488, I found a dead alien in my backyard, I was going to show him to the world but according to a piece of paper in the aliens pocket they usually burn their dead so I set him on fire and now there's no proof left.
Makes sense? |
So the Muslims really consider Osama a Muslim?
|
I hope they launched it off a catapult from one of our aircraft carriers.
|
seems obvious they want to minimize inflaming certain groups, especially with troops overseas. no need for a conspiracy.
|
USA should have probably just dumped the body off a helicopter in the front yard of his families house in Saudi Arabia.
Thats his homeland anyway and they should deal with it. |

He's fish food, good riddance. Get over it. |
the "buried at sea" bit does give the game away, even to those who do tend to fall for the propaganda
|
Well the story is now they had clues about Osama four years ago. Then more clues two years ago. Then they actually found the compound/mansion last year. So while Government didn't bat an eyelid sending shitloads of cruise missiles into Libya, it fucked around for eight months deciding what to do about America's Most Wanted, when they found his exact location after searching for almost a decade? Then, when they finally do something, and have a body, they immediately throw that evidence away into the sea where nobody will ever find it?
You'd have to be willfully ignorant to swallow all that without question. For the people pretending they give a rat's ass about offending Muslims (as if burial at sea is some special Islamic tradition): Quote:
