Help Me Find The Cheapest Smallest Apartment In The World To Rent Or Buy
 

This is just research to see what's out there.

I have seen these 12x12 apartments going for 25k. Are there any cheaper. I haven't seen any of these for rent.

Rooms for rent do not count. I don't like living with other people unless the lease is in my name. In other words I have to be the one that makes the rules in a shared house.

Please no asshole comments either. I can earn fairly good money but I also have a very frugal nature. I'm just thinking of doing this for a few years while I go to school.

"In the World" is that literal or do you mean in the U.S.?

Those are too big. I mean something really small. I lived in a 285 Sq foot studio and it was way to big for me. I only stay indoors 4hrs/day except for sleeping.

You can get a nice, but small condo in Thailand for around 20k. Less for a townhouse and you get it a little out of town, prob around 17k for a 2 story / 2 bed bare bones. But those things can be made into some sweet pads.

250 sounds sweet. $285 is what I paid for my last studio. There are trailers much bigger around here for $200 though.

Ohio scares me. I remember going through Cincinnati on a high school field trip and some of the students commented on what a horrible existence it must be to live there.

I also have some friends on youtube that live in other Ohio cities that are always bemoaning their neighborhood. Not that I couldn't handle it.

Sure but at sub-$200/mo rentals you're not likely to be in the greatest thriving neighborhoods.

ya. I will have to research each place. I don't drive so cheap public transport is a must. I need to be less than two blocks from a bus stop.

I think nothing of walking/biking 3-4 miles to the store though.

A friend of a friend gets free rent on the east cost by contacting owners of homes that are either empty or on foreclosure. His longest stay in the same place was about 18 months free.

His deal is that he basically says to the owner "I stay for free as long as I take care of the house, repair small items, cut the lawn etc, make it look attractive if you have an open house - and I leave on a moments notice".

Other than the weather Wichita looks like it would be awesome to live in. actually the weather would be no worse than here but after living in Florida I kind of want a warm climate.

Doesn't really sound like my sort of thing. I won't do lawn care unless I'm buying the property. I'm not really a fix it type of guy either. I'd rather have a small place that I can use a weed eater on or buy a riding lawnmower.

Sounds like a great idea though. If I'm ever in a spot I will get on the phone and try this.

If you have cash I'd suggest you buy outright, then you never have to worry about rent.

Just wondering.. is your goal to find the smallest apartment to rent, or is your goal to pay the least amount possible to rent whatever size it may be?

Get a caravan, plot up in the desert.

Too big, too small, too far away from the city, too close to the city, too expensive, too cheap... you seem to be all over the place? I also think you are going about this completely backwards. Choose a place that you want to live, then find a cheap place to live in.

Some cities you can buy small houses for 10k, but again these are going to be cities that you don't want to live in.

Is there any websites you can suggest that sell condos like you're talking about? I'd like to see some listings. Thanks.

If you got $30k to spend, why not buy a nice second hand motorhome and a plot. or an old trailer and put it on a small piece of land somewhere.

You could probably buy a 12X12 shed aswell.

If you're looking for good public transportation you are better off at least being close to a big city. I'm pretty much on the road year round now and you'd be surprised how few towns in the US actually have public transportation. I was in a small town in New Mexico a few weeks ago and went out drinking, and I ended up being too drunk to comfortably drive home. I tried to call a cab and they didn't even have a cab service within 50 miles. A lot of these small towns either don't have bus service, or it is so limited it won't be too useful. You better do some serious research before you make a choice...
