Hell yes way.. his list of shows like this is huge, but most I am not into at all.

Swamp Brothers is new and those two boys are hilarious. Robbie, the older brother used to be the assistant to C.C. Deville of Poison.

My personal favorites are Swords and Deadliest Catch though.

I like the first 48, outlaw bikers, underworld histories, turning points of history. I've watched them all and watch them again when they come on lol.

ajrocks 05-31-2011 05:39 PM

Coal and Swamp People are good

rogueteens 05-31-2011 06:30 PM

What an unusual collection of programmes to call Documentaries, especially Mythbusters which must rank as one of the shittiest programmes ever. I've yet to see an episode where their methods are "airtight".

Also while i'm on the subject, why are many "proper" american documentaries so liberal with facts? many of them put forward a theory only to claim it as fact later on in the programme.

Jakez 05-31-2011 06:38 PM

I was making fun of my brother watching the stupid rednecks on Swamp People, but I watched a few shows on Netflix and got hooked. Pretty crazy shit and the characters kind of grow on you.

There was a really interesting series about UK pawn shops following some of the customers showing how shitty their everyday decisions were and why they had become so reliant on pawning stuff.

LedZep 05-31-2011 11:40 PM

Locked Up Abroad and How The Universe Works kicks ass.

the real money is made off camera, the shit they show, is all fluff. A lot of the time they totally overpay for stuff, which will bring in the sheep, thinking they will get a fair shake:2 cents:

combson 06-01-2011 07:12 AM

America's Hardest Prisons.... :)))

BlackCrayon 06-01-2011 07:24 AM

I never understand why people take documentaries as gospel. They are usually fairly interesting and can provide some good insight, but there is always a bias and almost always money behind the project.

Oh and you guys are talking about reality shows more or less, not documentaries. They are fun and entertaining, but too much staging goes on. Reality show.

JayDeeZee 06-01-2011 07:28 AM

River Monsters = Awesome!

Mythbusters a documentary? My god, the world is getting stupider by the second. Entertainment yes, documentary no.

Watch anything by Adam Curtis and then come back into this thread and talk about documentaries. I recommend something like "The Power Of Nightmares" as a whimsical light hearted introduction to the mans work followed by "The Trap" to fully suck you into his bleak, cynical, yet surprisingly charming world.

It's because a documentary has to form a thesis or an opinion of its own. without that you just have a bunch of clips that would make it boring as hell.. even the national geographic ones try to make a statement, despite being a bit dull and not as over the top as current doc films.

It is humorous seeing people take them as absolute fact and indisputable. Just because they have to back up their claims with some evidence doesn't mean that the evidence isn't weak or completely circumstantial. I still enjoy watching them, but I use them as an inspirational tool to read more on the subject myself and come to my own conclusions, a practice that is a dying art form I would imagine.
