That's worth watch for sure, the mood reminds pandorum and sunshine; event horizon tries to be more horror than sci-fi, but ends up less scary than alien or the thing (John Carpenter ed), so like a star trek episode with more gore and horror.

cybermike 01-03-2013 08:19 AM

It was a pretty fucked up movie when I watched it in high school with some friends

geirlur 01-03-2013 08:19 AM

yeah was dissapointed

Caligari 01-03-2013 08:20 AM

One of the best science fiction-horror films of the last 40 years, and that's saying a lot.

That's saying a lot of bullshit. The movie is okay, not spectacular by any means.

Name 5 science fiction-horror films of the last 40 years which are better.

Blade Runner, Alien, Predator, Terminator... there's 4, not sure if they count as "science fiction - horror" but they are all classics compared to Event Horizon.

Event Horizon is a lot like Sphere (and a ton of other sci fi movies), where a ship takes over the crew and fights them for control, turning them against each other etc.

This only proves you don't know what you're talking about.

1)Blade Runner and Terminator are science fiction, not horror. I could also say that "The French Connection" is more of a classic than Event Horizon, but this would also be apples v. oranges.
2)In Event Horizon, the characters are not turned against each other. I will not reveal what is actually happening (spoilers) but your entire statement is incorrect.

.

seeandsee 01-03-2013 08:59 AM

Event Horizon is good but not the best from "psyho" space ship scfi horror movies...

there's graphic violence in both which would qualify in your made up genre...

django was the best western starring a black man with rap music in it in the last 50 years. Right? ;)

xholly 01-03-2013 10:02 AM

Loved it when it first came out and saw again a couple years ago and thought it was great still. You liked sunshine so you will like it I think

_Richard_ 01-03-2013 12:09 PM

great movie

Ok but Sunshine is better, I just said same mood. Can be comparable to Pandorum with less special effects, or a star trek tv movie with more horror; anyway I did not liked Pandorum except the very start and very end scenes... all what's in middle in Pandorum is a boring pain to watch.
Regarding best sci-fi movies ever that's 2001 a space odissey, guys...
If want a rather unknown recent classic (non-action, all concept) sci-fi one, watch Moon, it deserve its 8.00 vote in imdb:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1182345/

Of course no troll to post the Moon spoiler please.

soopamanluva 01-03-2013 02:03 PM

definitely worth watching.

Some of you guys need to get out more, or read more or something.

Maybe you can understand this Forbes article listing the top 10 sci-fi horror films of all time-
http://www.forbes.com/sites/markhugh...s-of-all-time/
They put Event Horizon rightfully at 7.

http://bloody-disgusting.com/editori...s-of-all-time/
Of which they name Event Horizon as number 20 in the top sci-fi horror films of all time although it is certainly better than some of the films they rank higher in that list.

Markul 01-03-2013 02:07 PM

liberate tutemet ex inferis :thumbsup

The Ghost 01-03-2013 02:07 PM

It's worth watching for sure. Was a great movie to see on the big screen when it came out. Just looked it up on imdb and can't believe it's been out for 15+ years now. Damn.

Dirty F 01-03-2013 02:15 PM

Wow, 15 years! The cgi was real good.

Dirty F 01-03-2013 02:18 PM

It sure did remind me of Sunshine but i still like Sunshine way more.
I just like that movie so much for some reason.

i don't give a crap though, it works well in the film and it's more than the bulk of similar films are willing to muster.

You can judge a film by how well it stands the test of time (Metropolis,Invasion Of The Body Snatchers,Forbidden Planet,The Thing,Alien, etc) and Event Horizon still holds up today. The effects are great, the story/screenplay is well written and the acting is top notch.

IMO I think it's superior to Sunshine on a conceptual level, although I liked that film as well.

The one that always gets me is the original Alien. That move was made in 1979 and still holds up to many of today's movies on visuals. Was no CGI bullshit it was all hand build models, sets & costumes.

QFT, just like 2001 IMO. Hell you can go back to Metropolis made in the 1920's - that film still looks amazing and those guys were making up effects as they went along.

To this day I have not seen a robot who looks cooler than that robot from Metropolis.

Yup, amazing how they did that.
Just like Blade Runner.

I never learned a word of Latin but when i read some Latin sentences a lot of times i can figure out what it means (kinda).
So many words are used in English and Germanic languages.
I love to read about certain words, where they come from. In the end it all makes sense.
Just like names. So many names are the same in different languages.

Johnson in English, John's son. Jan's zoon in Dutch. Jansen. Jensen. I love that shit.
:1orglaugh

I spend hours on Wiki reading about it.

bronco67 01-03-2013 02:49 PM

It's a classic.

Dirty F 01-03-2013 02:53 PM

I'm totally into the Aramaic language lately.
I can read about it for hours.
It's the language Jesus spoke (if he existed at all).
It's pre-arabic and hebrew. Many names and words in the bible come from the Aramaic language.
The bible stories itself mean shit to me but the words they used are so interesting.
I LOVE how Mel Gibson in the Passion of the Christ used the original languages. Aramaic, old Greek and Latin.
I think Aramaic is a beautiful language.

Also has one of the best explosions ever in a movie.

When they looked at Mercury orbiting the sun in Sunshine i felt something, deep inside my stomach.
It's such a beautiful yet lonely sight. So close to our amazingly huge star that keeps us alive yet so tiny and alone.

The universe is an amazing place. And all this stuff is happening in our backyard.

The one with Larry Fishburne & Sam Neill?

I paid money to see it in the theater. Thought it was crap.

Watched it again recently. Still thought it was crap.

Btw, Gibson made that movie for 1 reason only and that is to show his hatred against jews.
He's fucked in his head. But he makes awesome movies.
