was it racism that killed ebola patient thomas duncan?

are there other factors that may have been in play with the delay in getting him an experimental drug?

AKA - he had no insurance. Who exactly does rev jesse jackson expect to pay for the experimental medication? I didnt hear the millionaire offer to pay for it.

perhaps the hospital was sitting on its hands because they had a patient with an advanced case & the hospital knew they would have to dish out 100K or whatever absurd fee the experimental medicine cost, & they made a financial decision.

its a great example how a lack of insurance can kill you, & how capitalist healthcare is deadly.

but of course he died because he was black. right?

No I think the news said it was ebola that killed him.

seeandsee 10-09-2014 06:46 AM

they did. but only after rev jackson urged his listeners to robo-call the hospital & demand he get treated. the hospital had to be pressured, & it took over a week from his admission to when he got it. No other US patients endured any wait time.

Bullshit. Brassmonkey, please teach these ignorant people that whenever something bad happens to someone who is black it's because of the fact he/she is black, and that whitey is probably behind it because they trynna keep the black man down. Damn racists!

Buff 10-09-2014 07:01 AM

"was it racism that killed ebola patient thomas duncan?"

Oh God, I hope so.

czarina 10-09-2014 07:11 AM

It's not because he was black. It is because he was a foreigner with no insurance.

artwilliams 10-09-2014 07:21 AM

I suspect it was a message to all non-Americans -- don't come to the US with Ebola and expect to get experimental drugs.

onwebcam 10-09-2014 07:25 AM

He came here knowing he likely had it. He deaerved everything he got. I bet Jessie wasn't standing by his side holding his hand as he departed.

10 Inch Dick 10-09-2014 07:26 AM

Yes. They was racists.

He was American with no insurance. Went to visit his family there. Should have stayed.
Had girlfriend here with kids and now they are checking them out too. She will probably file charges and win few million dollars.

File charges and win a few million? What country are you from?

And no, he was not an American, he was Liberian.

I stand corrected. I assumed he was American because they mentioned his kid and girlfriend on the radio. Figured they would sue the shit out the hospital for being prejudice against blacks. Not so easy now :(

we both know black people are gods on earth and that's why everybody fucks with them.... pure jealousy ..:2 cents:

He died because his infection was ignored at first, which cost him days of care. He also did not receive ZMAPP, the drug used to cure Missionaries Brantly and Writebol of Ebola because the supply was exhausted. I don't know if he received a transfusion either. (A transfusion from a previously infected but cured patient would have contained anti bodies and help with the cure). http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...ment/15443441/

Captain Kawaii 10-09-2014 08:35 AM

He was probably killed due to incompetence on hospital's part...and the fact he lied on immigration records entering the country. He said he had no contact with infected people in Liberia.

He was a lying sack of shit risking countless innocents who is now a dead sack of shit. EOS.

True.. he could have also said "I'm sick and I think it maybe Ebola", on his first visit...

dicknipples 10-09-2014 09:06 AM

Jesus fuck why does everything have to be about racism? Why can't a black man die of ebola without fucking bringing race into it?

White man dies of ebola, should the headlines be "Whitey dies of Ebola. Black mans fault."?

Yes, but also Liberia was charging him with lying on his exit data on the flight in question.

Phoenix 10-09-2014 09:41 AM

Of course he is black. .so must be racist

Not to mention, just because they can save some people, it doesn't mean they can save everyone. I'm sure your immune system and luck also has a lot to do with it, just like any illness. Cancer kills some people, and others beat it. That's just how it goes.

iwantchixx 10-09-2014 09:57 AM

So lack of insurance automatically translates to racism because he's black? If he was white, the disease would be the blame...

geesus - this world spends so much time worrying about color being a factor

What killed him was a stupid idea of being around ebola patients then also lying about it to get home and waiting too long to get treated

im troubled by the racisim in the thread. i regret making it.

but i was frustrated this morning to see the front page of CNN.com have a big story suggesting race played a factor in Duncans care. The idea that people took race into account in making decisions about his treatment is offensive to my intelligence. Its not 1962 in america anymore.

& its this loosey goosey use of the race card that damages race relations, because reasonable white people think black people are whining, & will discount legitimate issues of race, like the ferguson incident, like trayvon etc.

But once Jesse Jackson got involved, i knew shit would start flying.

thats all im gonna say about race ever again on the GFY. Laters.

I hope the message gets to Africa; I wondered if Duncan came here in hopes of being treated.

Is there really a difference between a Liberian and a African American?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberia
Quote:

Liberia is the only country in Africa founded by United States colonization while occupied by native Africans. Beginning in 1820, the region was colonized by African Americans, most of whom were freed slaves. The colonizers (who later become known as Americo-Liberians) established a new country with the help of the American Colonization Society, a private organization whose leaders thought former slaves would have greater opportunity in Africa. African captives freed from slave ships by the British and Americans were sent there instead of being repatriated to their countries of origin.

Oh, so you are "troubled by the racism" in the thread you started; but it wouldn't be so bad if black people would quit playing the race card and the civil rights leader who organised Martin Luther King's protest marches is now the great big evil because the racism in this thread that frustrates you doesn't exist when he's talking about it.

Thanks for clearing everything up for me.

:thumbsup

He didn't die from lack of insurance.

He died 'cuz he was black.

Says so right here in the thread. Re-read.
