China's Navy seizes American underwater drone
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Chinese warship has seized an underwater drone deployed by a U.S. oceanographic vessel in the South China Sea, triggering a formal diplomatic protest and a demand for its return, U.S. officials told Reuters on Friday.
The incident, the first of its kind in recent memory, took place on Dec. 15 about 50 nautical miles northwest of Subic Bay off the Philippines just as the USNS Bowditch, an oceanographic survey ship, was about to retrieve the unmanned, underwater vehicle (UUV), officials said. "The UUV was lawfully conducting a military survey in the waters of the South China Sea," one official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. "It's a sovereign immune vessel, clearly marked in English not to be removed from the water - that it was U.S. property," the official said. The Pentagon later confirmed the incident at a news briefing. It said the drone used commercially available technology and sold for about $150,000. Still, the Pentagon viewed China's seizure seriously since it had effectively taken U.S. military property. "It is ours, and it is clearly marked as ours and we would like it back. And we would like this not to happen again," Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said. The seizure by the Chinese Navy will add to concerns about China's growing military presence and aggressive posture in the disputed South China Sea, including its militarization of maritime outposts. A U.S. think tank this week said new satellite imagery indicated China has installed weapons, including anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems, on all seven artificial islands it has built in the South China Sea. Mira Rapp-Hooper, a senior fellow in the Asia-Pacific Security Program at the Center for a New American Security, said China would have a hard time explaining its actions. "This move, if accurately reported, is highly escalatory, and it is hard to see how Beijing will justify it legally," Rapp-Hooper said. article... |
1,2,3 Postal @therealdonaldtrump?
We'll see -- this is a drill repeat only a drill. |
Fucking nitpicky Chinese bitches WTF
This is not going to end well for them. I'd rather drive China back into starvation at this point. Just like Russia, they continually break every agreement to fuck us over. |
Russia & China making moves while we're weak after an election. |
Paul Markham what do you think about this?
China's Navy Seizes American Underwater Drone In South China Sea | The Huffington Post |
Trump made a calculated move that he knew would piss the PRC off -- disregarding the One-China policy.
So, if this is the only payback -- take a chill-pill and reconsider your options. This wasn't opening negotiations -- this was sucker-punching below the belt from the Chinese point of view. If China was parading surface fleets, with hostile capabilities, in international waters, off the west coast of the USA: we would be shitting-bricks over it. The US Navy is doing this in the South China Sea -- that is the way the Chinese see it. Take 2 steps back and count to 10 ... |

US presence there shouldn't be viewed as hostility towards China, but more like placing a chess piece in that region to prevent China from expanding... :2 cents: |

For the first time in 9 years we've raised interest rates. The Fed says we're going to raise again 3 times next year. This is based on fake numbers that our economy is so great, the real reason is to devalue the yuan to fuck with China's currency. Why is China so afraid of US Fed's interest rate increase? | South China Morning Post I'm glad we're hitiing back hard at China fuck them. I just wish Trump would have waited until he was in power, too late now. |

woj; the Chinese don't give a fuck what you say ...
If the Chinese park a tank in front of your house and insist they are protecting their trade route to Walmart -- would you object? The Russians feel the same way about militarization close to their western border with Europe. When Russia placed missiles in Cuba in 1962 what did the US do? You are not being realistic and regurgitating dogma. Our right, they did -- lets start another conflict? As long as China does not act in aggression in South Asia -- leave them the fuck alone. It's a lose -- lose situation. |
China is flexing it's muscle. This might get interesting.
No worries. Trump will handle this. He'll call them. |
The Chinese stole something?
Wow, I'm amazed. |

Aside: there were 2 drones in the water -- weather drones (unclassified meteorological equipment) the Chinese only took one. Like American Indians counting coup they are just fucking with us. |

"capable"
We can't win a war with China without paying a very high price. It a lose-lose. By aggression, I mean actual invasion like how the Imperial Japanese Army invaded Manchuria. We may need the Chinese to better control the North Korean nut case -- that is in our mutual interest. Taiwan and the PRC tolerate each other -- if the Chinese wanted to take Taiwan they could -- same as Putin took Crimea. If the Chinese invaded Taiwan do you advocate starting a shooting war with China? We wouldn't and they know it -- it would fuck up the business relationship that has brought prosperity to China. The Chinese lack the will to invade Taiwan for the same reasons. More to lose than to gain. I am not advocating a Neville Chamberlain Munich Agreement but we have to step back and think. Quote:
Taiwan could become a semi-autonomous Chinese State like Hong Kong and we all move on. Taiwan is not a bargaining chip in an international trade game :2 cents: |

This is part of the reason Duerte has become so emboldened, the Chinese are his new big time lender and he now wants our bases closed. |
Americans do not understand thinking in Southeast Asia -- Indochina.
We have a monument in black granite in the nation's capital with the names of 58,307 dead the last time we thought we could fix the problems in South Asia. That war was to guarantee the sovereignty of South Vietnam against Vietnamese reunification. |

It was a ruse planned by Trump to spread American propaganda. Once the Chinese downloaded the info from the drone they found a video of Joshua G, Grapesoda, Google Expert, nico-t, and special guest Ben Carson

Our lieutenant colonel was training Vietnam soldiers during the Vietnam War. He said they were very small and not physically strong. During joint training accelerated marches in full ammunition, those got quickly exhausted. So Russian officiates just picked them with their ammo and continue running, to do not fuck up the squad's result. Now try to remember who was more effective in Jungle battles and who won that war - cool American rambos, or those small and weak Asians :winkwink: So there is no place for hand to hand combats in 21st century. But if even it wasn't so, I doubt it would be easy to break those legs... |
