Arrested For ... Being Black?
Black Men Arrested For ‘Trespassing’
The video says it all. Sadly, if two white guys were sitting and waiting for someone, nothing would have been said. Part of me understands you can’t just sit and not order but a bigger part feels “we’re waiting for someone” means give them twenty minutes or so and explain that loitering isn’t allowed. You need to order to sit here. It was handled wrong by a prejudiced person. This should be on the front page of every newspaper and news site, as well as tv news. People think black people bring this on themselves by acting ‘gangsta’, but this shows that discrimination and pre-conceived notions exist and isn’t just in the minds of people. |
Thank god no one got shot

I watched the second video. It’s horrible to see how these men were treated.
“According to Ross, police “politely” asked the pair to leave several times and they continued to refuse and behaved rudely toward the officers. The officers, he said, did everything right.” I saw the men talking, not loudly, no hand gestures, seemingly politely speaking to the police. I emailed Holly Hylton’s boss and requested termination of employment. I expressed my anger and said if I were black, I’d boycott Starbucks. Hell, I’m white and would boycott if one were in my area, I said. Police always say there’s backtalk and threats and gestures. Here is proof that there are two sides to a story. Be honest — if you read this story but didn’t see the videos— would you assume guilt solely based on color? I’d bet 75% would say yes if truly honest. This story touched me deeply as it shows how we’re influenced by the media to believe ALL people of certain ethnicity or religions are always guilty. It makes you think. |
The manager asked them politely to leave and they didn't.
The cops asked them to leave and they refused. They got arrested. Don't disobey an order from a cop or you'll get arrested. For all we know they are probably a couple crack dealers. There's always more to these stories. |

If you act like a jerk and the cops come, either leave or get arrested. Of course now everyone is screaming racist! It's bunch of bullshit. Black and white people get along every damn day in this world. Nothing like the huffpost to try to incite some racism bullshit. |

I would never go into this starbucks if it was in my area. :2 cents: |
Liberals should protest that right wing corporation. Oh wait....

- huf post link: Check. - whining against non existent racism in sig: Check. - assuming 'if it was white guys they wouldnt have problems' without any proof or facts, just emotion envoked by racist and segregation propaganda by the mainstream media: Check. You win the prize, you're a racist by picking this shit article propagating something is about skin color while it isn't, out of hundreds of thousands of articles with subjects that are actual real problems, like disasters, tragedies, wars, deaths, etc. Yet you pick this crappy article, which has the sole purpose of spreading division by pointing out race where it was not even relevant, to be outraged by. Nice to know you got your priorities straight. You're an idiot. :2 cents: |
Where I live White people have to know some kind of secret code just to use the Starbucks WiFi:winkwink:

Yes, the stores are “community” hubs, where people often drop in to use the WiFi or chat with friends without necessarily ordering anything.
But, they where asked to leave the shop, they were not complying and got arrested for “defiant trespassing.” If a cop tells you to leave because the shop wants you out, you leave. |

If they had just left when the cops told them to we wouldn't be talking about this. Who do you think they are the Rosa Parks of Starbucks? |

I would love to hear what the manager would have to say. I guarantee it's a different story. Also, what do you think white people never get kicked out for loitering? This must be a slow news day for them to pick this up. |

The article was about racism and I agreed. This IS a real problem. You really think if they were white, they'd beve been ignored? You're living in a dream world. You're not alone, judging by the posts so far. They weren't loud. They weren't arguing. They weren't doing anything but waiting for a friend. You can hear people there tells the cops that they were just sitting there. How were they rude to the cops? No raised voices, no gestures, no faces. Even when arrested, they quietly complied. No arguing or yelling, just compliance. If there were anything done wrong, the court would have been told. The judge saw the videos, ruled no evidence, and dismissed the case. If they rudely refused to comply, the judge would have been informed. Calling me racist for pointing out discrimination is tantamount to you being called a kiddie porn producer because you have adult websites. If reading an article on racism and discrimination and hating it makes me racist, then I'll proudly wear the badge. They refused to leave because they did nothing wrong. They were meeting a friend for coffee. Ordering before he arrived would be rude and ignorant. You wait for your friends, you don't drink coffee and eat donuts without your friends. Starbucks could have said the guys were disruptive or crude, messy and loud, or anything as proof it was valid to call the cops. Instead they issued an apology fast. PR against losing customers, sure, but the spin could have been that we didn't hear their words or see their actions beforehand. The employee didn't like two black guys sitting there, not spending money. They were polite enough to ask to use the restroom and when told no, didn't put up a fuss. Many of you assume they were up to no good because they didn't order. If they were white, would you feel the same way? Black people often say this happens but no one believes them. Evidence is right here. But here's proof yet you think it's Huff Post inciting racism wars, imagined racism or being racist for copying the link and posting it. You live in a fantasy world where racism doesn't exist, everyone is welcome everywhere and racism is an imaginatory thing in the minds of racists. You've never had friends of color and seen/heard their experiences. That plastic bubbles you live in can burst at any second. |

Crack dealers? They calmly and quietly stood up to be handcuffed. No arguing, just compliance. Crack dealers would have caused a ruckus, screaming and carrying on. They were too calm to be high. But you assume crack dealers because of their color! Gang colors weren't there. No facial gang tattoos. No hands in pockets to hide drugs. Just two black guys meeting a friend for coffee. If they were white, would you assume they did blue-collar theft? After all, only black guys deal drugs in your world, right? |

Restrooms for customers only is fine. They were too calm! Seriously, I'd have argued since I did nothing wrong. They were smart enough to know that arguing is senseless and to remain calm and non-threatening. I hope their local media covers it so I can see it. I'd like their side of the story, too. |
There's people who respond belligerently and/or refuse to comply with the demands of police. And people who respond friendly and/or peaceably comply to the demands of police.
The belligerent people will often get harassed or arrested, for refusing to comply if nothing else. The friendly ones will often not get harassed or arrested, for willingness to comply if nothing else. That's called friendly privilege. Its belligerentist and its got to stop! |
Its funny how they came quick to starbucks to escort them out, that call was probably the least one they would have responded too.
Shit, I remember when I worked at a motel, it got robbed, cops came the next day for police report since they were too busy for calls that day unless it was a actual emergency. |
Erm...
I've sat down in coffee bar / restaurant / whatever a million times while waiting for someone, and I always order a drink while waiting. I don't think I ever responded to the staff that I'll be just sitting and waiting until the other person arrives. What, they MUST take the first sip of coffee at the exact same second? How about following sips, do they coordinate that too? :1orglaugh Anyway, same shit as always.. When asked by authority figure to do something (in this case, starbucks staff) - you do it When asked by police to stop - you stop RLY simple shit. |

Or do you only have the nuts to show this side of yourself when not around people in the real world? If you spewed your vile opinions around normal, decent people they'd probably find you pretty repugnant, unless you only hang out with other scumbags. Have to give you some credit for sustaining this character you portray. |

- they asked to use the toilet - they were told it's for customers only, they should order something or leave - they refused and even told the staff they can call the police BTW can't even remember the country I was in (somewhere in Europe) but I rushed in the McDonalds to take a piss and guess what, it was customer only. They didn't let me use it before buying something so I had a soda or some shit. Security guard that told me I can't use the toilet was BLACK. Guess what, I'm white. I DID NOT: - argue - piss on their floor - make a scene - tell them to call cops - and.. I DID NOT FEEL LIKE A VICTIM :1orglaugh |

They were arrested for "loitering" because they were there waiting for their WHITE friend to show up. Their friends showed up late as they were being handcuffed and caused a scene yelling at the cops. It's all on video. The video below starts as the white friend finally shows up.. Unlike you, I've never been told I can't use the restroom anywhere in America, or abroad, so look in the mirror and ask yourself what you can do so people won't reject you from using their toilet. Are you polite like Bladewire? Are you smartly dressed like Bladewire? Do you have a winning smile and undeniable charm like Bladewire? If you answered no to any of those questions then you need to up your game so more doors will open for you in life, at minimum, the door to a restroom. |
