MatureKing 05-03-2021 10:23 AM

Drink Absolut

jscott 05-03-2021 10:33 AM

Got a bottle of Belvedere waiting to pop, have high hopes for it, good friend recommended it. Anyone had it?

fastball 05-03-2021 10:34 AM

Siberskaya, Golden Ring. I also like as a day to day Riga which, of course is from Latvia. French vodka can be OK, but I think I still prefer Russian

I would like to know what you think of it. I am not a big fan of Polish vodkas. Or Swedish and Finnish.

All Vodkas are the same. It's just a pure alcohol + non-unboiled water. It has no color and no taste.

Bought this one today - Vodka "Air". The label says "you drink as you breathe" :upsidedow

P.S. As about Russian vs Polish vodka, so you won't notice any difference. Maybe 100 years ago they were real different, because classic Polish vodka made of potato alcohol, while Russian one made of wheat. However, today all alcohol is highly refined and extremely clean, so it has no tinge of the raw it was made of.

pornguy 05-03-2021 11:04 AM

Believe it or not. Try Smirnoff Vodka spicy Tamarindo

CurrentlySober 05-03-2021 11:07 AM

My 'Choice' is to simply drink as much as possible, as fast as possible...

This... some might say they use x-times filtered/purified water, but I guess it's just marketing.. however from one type of vodka I do get a worse hangover then from an other type.. but I guess that's a coincidence also (what have I eaten before it, did I drink any soda with vodka or just pure water and so on).

I usually buy Absolut, Russian Standard or Finlandia..

Scott McD 05-03-2021 11:36 AM

No Grey Goose drinkers here ?

I have a shitload of it at home. Wasn't to fussed to begin with but now when someone gives me Smirnoff i notice the difference (not in a good way) right away...

Never had a hangover after vodka which is sold in every regular Moscow grocery. Tequila, whiskey, rum, gin, beer and wine turn my head into a cocked bomb every next morning. Vodka - never, and it doesn't matter what's written on its label.

Somewhere 20 years ago it was possible to buy a counterfeit Vodka and get poisoned. Now it's almost impossible. Each bottle has its own unique QR code in the federal alcohol accounting system. This number can be checked in the official base with a regular mobile phone. Thus, a same bottle can't be sold twice through the store's cashier.

The Porn Nerd 05-03-2021 12:03 PM

Isn't all vodka basically the same?
But, to be pretentious and "cool" when out ordering at a bar it's this, in order:

1. Grey Goose
2. Finlandia (best for martinis)
3. Absolut

I used to live in Moscow and I would use Stolichnaya in my windshield washers as anti freeze. My company paid import duties so we would import it and pay a buck a bottle.

My wife uses it as a grout for seams between floor tiles. So what? :) As about the prices, so a regular 0.5 liter vodka is about $4 USD here. For example in South Korea it's about twice cheaper.

Show me anybody who can create (write code, poetry, books or do scientific discovery) w/o vodka. Even Stephen King wrote his greatest novels when he was on vodka and drugs, Now when he is clean (as he says), he writes shit.

She uses vodka for grout? Damn you must have leaky floors.

Nope. Lost in translation :) Not as a component of grout. She uses it as a grout cleaner, to make it (the grout between the seams of tiles) look fresh and clean.

To that I say, "Hail Winston!"

And to Stephen King I say, "Have a drink you hack because without the drink and drugs you suck balls."

I drink Costco's finest Kirkland brand of vodka and that's that.

And its French. The best bargain in Vodka.

just a punk 05-03-2021 11:44 PM

BTW, just checked the bottle I bought yesterday. The mobile app showed me the label, the factory it was produced, the exact address of the grocery it was bought, the exact time of purchase, the check number, cashier number and cashier shift number.

So here is a question to my foreign сolleagues. Do you have some kind of similar Sate control systems for alcohol? I mean something to prevent accidents like this.

I would imagine we as slavs metabolize vodka better then rum, tequila etc since we have had exposure to it for a thousand years.

Nothing like that in Poland. We just have a sticker over the bottlecap that tax was paid. There is a vodka brand though called Mlody Ziemniak, that is potato vodka and every bottle is labeled with year, the region the potatoes are from and the general weather for that season. It tastes good when it is very cold but the smell is basically like the basement in house of a villager grandmother.

Sergio 05-04-2021 01:46 AM

Nemiroff LEX is the best. After this you will not have headache on your morning

No, in America it would infringe upon our right to completely self-destruct, which is in our constitution, by the way. If we wish to drink toxic vodka, get the fuck out of our way and don't try to stop us or we will over-throw the government which over-reaches anyway.

All the information I've got from the State database, was taken from the code on a similar tax sticker (excise stamp). I mean that every bottle has its own unique ID in the global system so anybody can trace its path from the factory to the store where it was bought.

Hmm. I think you are wrong here. Illegal alcohol is forbidden in the USA. Moonshiners (TV series - Wikipedia).

BTW, in Russia you are also free to make your own vodka. There are many shops that sell special alcohol machines, but for your own consumption only. You can't sell it if you have no certified manufacture and a special license.

totally opposite here...
But I just don't drink - that much - "hangover quantities"

klinton 05-04-2021 10:27 AM

I don't drink vodka.
It kind of sucks.
But I do drink rakija, rum, cognac, gin.

also some true/natural herbal vodkas can be decent.

It's not marketing. You can buy $8 1.75L of very cheap vodka and use a brita water filter and filter it 8 times and it makes the undrinkable cheap vodka drinkable

I normally drink Pinnacle but sometimes I'll buy some Grey Goose. I used to drink Smirnoff but I can't stand that brand anymore

ruff 05-04-2021 11:54 AM

Fun fact: Tequila is the only liquor that ages in the bottle. Buy some cheap stuff and put it in your closet for 20 years and you will have gourmet Margaritas.

Aaaa ok, we have the tax sticker, it has a unique ID but all it gives you is information if the tax is valid - no other info.

Yeah but they have less % alcohol, you can always add your own mixer.
