Red Bull Bannings

"Though the beverage is not barred from sale in Europe, some countries have indeed banned it, including Denmark, Canada, Malaysia, and France. These countries cite concern over the beverage's high level of caffeine."

i am reading online and exactly, it says it is missing an ingredient, trying to find out....

if it is lacking an ingredient its not the same red bull.

samuel 08-02-2004 04:32 PM

Far as i know the new canned stuff isn't the same as the stuff from thailand in the bottles that has a drug in it.
The bottled stuff was being served at a bar i worked at until the owner found out it was illegal.

BRISK 08-02-2004 05:07 PM

I have a friend that works for Red Bull.

Normal Red Bull in Canada isn't allowed to be sold because it has taurine in it and taurine hasn't been approved by the health authorities in Canada. However, Red Bull is sold in Canada (just without the taurine in it), as well, you can buy the normal Red Bull in Canada even though it isn't legal plenty of places still sell it anyway. There are also at least 3 other energy drinks in Canada that are being sold and have taurine in them anyway.

So, yes, regular Red Bull isn't legal in Canada, however the law isn't enforced and you can find plenty of regular Red Bull being sold in Canada.

This is true of other countries as well that haven't approved taurine for sale.

On top of all this, my friend said Health Canada is nearing the stages of approval for taurine to be sold in drinks in Canada.

WiredGuy 08-02-2004 05:18 PM

I've never seen the carbinated version of redbull (canned ones) sold in canada, only this weird bottled stuff that tastes the safe but lower caffein.

I can't do caffien in high doses..so red bull is out of the question.. cant even drink but a few sips of coffee and soda at a time..
I guess it saves my body from caffiene ravaging:)

s9ann0 08-02-2004 05:22 PM

its banned in france I think because they don't allow vitamin/suplements type stuff to be aded to foods or something

seems pretty stupid to ban something thats safe but there you go same shit with weed in most places

Odin88 08-02-2004 05:22 PM

I believe they have to go through New Zealand to sell in Australia, as there is some loop hole that allows them to skip the semi-ban on such products here.

BRISK 08-02-2004 05:29 PM

A lot of people think Red Bull is banned in all these countries, it's not so much banned as it is "not yet approved". And it's not Red Bull that isn't approved, it's taurine that isn't approved.

When Red Bull started in Austria in the 1980s it took 3 years to get approved, it then moved on to Germany where it took 5 years to get approved. It's not that it was banned in these countries, it's that it wasn't approved.

But for the sake of Red Bull myth and legend, they like the fact that people think it's "banned" because that makes it taboo, and therefore all the "cool kids" gotta have it.

TheMob 08-02-2004 05:31 PM

RedBull sucks. Drink something else.

clickhappy 08-02-2004 05:31 PM

i drank that stuff and didnt feel anything.

TurboTrucker 08-02-2004 05:32 PM

Why take that pretend shit? Just snort a big line of methamphetamine!

pushpills 08-02-2004 05:41 PM

I think it should be! Too much taurine and alcohol makes ya blackout and get violent! I've seen it happen to several people who can handle alcohol well, but when they had too much redbull as well they went nuts (I did on my birthday, blacked out and decked some guy wearing a sox hat on the street)

Well, that's some conclusive evidence. Not.

from what i have read it seems the opposite. the company itself insists it is NOT BANNED, but its the people against red bull who say it is.

i have read a few interviews with the CEO etc, and all i have seen is his insisting it is not banned, that its the hype about it and not his product.

He can't say it's banned because it isn't banned, it's just not approved yet. The approval time for some countries can take a long time.

He would by lying if he said it was banned.

It's like when pharmaceutical drug companies are seeking FDA approval for a new drug. Until they get FDA approval they're not banned, but they're not approved yet either.

For something to be banned, it would have had to have been sold originally and then the government decided to ban it. That isn't the case here.

Pending approval is not the same as being banned.

evildick 08-02-2004 06:06 PM

It was under investigation in some countries because they thought it might be linked to sudden deaths of people that drank it after heavy exercise, as well as some people that were mixing it with alcohol. Not sure if they ever cleared the drink as the culprit in those deaths.

Very few things that are "cool" can ever manage to stay "cool"

Red Bull has been around for like 20 years though, so I'd say it's doing ok for maintaining its "coolness"

And paradoxically, that's exactly the reason it's losing it's coolness. Because it really has no other effects than a can of regular coke or a cup of coffee with a bunch of sugar, it has to rely on a mysterious, drug-like image. The more people drink it, the more it becomes a household brand instead of a trendy one. As a household brand, it sucks - it's just an overpriced softdrink which doesn't even taste all that great.

But it must have been a hell of a ride for the founder
