Nixon, actually. I can see how you'd forget, for some reason they don't seem to be giving any memorial to these victims on network TV. Don't think for a second Bush wouldn't do the same thing if Americans had the backbone to stand up to the government today. The army and police don't protect the people, they protect the bankers and politicians from the people. This was the national guard gunning down unarmed college kids who opposed the war in Vietnam in cold blood, for those who don't know.

If you call...vandalizing and torching buildings on your own campus (which was happening on virtually every major campus across the US)..."seriously speaking out". I don't call it speaking out...Richy boy...I call it what it was...criminal activity.

As for what certain members of the National Guard did that day...from all accounts it seems to have been unjustified.

I realize you weren't born for another 20 years after this happened, but people used to oppose the government when they committed crimes. Bitching on CNN is not opposing. Protesting with permits is not opposition. During the Vietnam war there was real opposition, and they were put down by the military. This was not the only incident during that time. The same was true during and after the civil war, protests and strikes were put down violently by the military. Don't worry, no one expects someone with absolutely no grasp of history to understand this, or even to understand why it's wrong to use a nation's army against it's own citizens.

They were shot by the Ohio National Guard !Some of the people who shot them were also students at the school at the time.

What's not said above is some idiot student set off a pack of fireworks in the crowd which made the National Guard troops start shooting !

The ROTC building wasn't burned down at Kent State, although some people tried. I'm all for the police arresting those who damage property and hurt officers, what's wrong is when the government sends in troops to randomly shoot into a crowd of protesters. I'm sorry that you're too conditioned to separate the two, I'm not going to continue trying to explain it to you.

I just said nothing has changed since then in the attitude of the government and a large percentage of the people, which is absolutely true. People should remember events like this, instead of forgetting about them like the government would like you to.
