how come all of you dress like shit?

Looking at all the pics that have been posted on GFY, so far only Juicy has some sense of style, the rest of you dress like shit. Why?

feel free to discuss

Antonio 11-22-2005 08:51 AM

Phoenix 11-22-2005 08:52 AM

Downtime 11-22-2005 08:52 AM

no one likes metrosexuals

Jace 11-22-2005 08:53 AM

i think I have pretty good style...it is all my style, not shitty suits or trendy clothes though

i think everyone shoud have their own style and not go with the masses...whatever you are comfortable in should be "your" style, and each person is different

the only thing I think should be banned though, is advertisment clothes....shit you buy that has the name of the company all over it...that is just silly shit

To each their own.

However, there is something to be said about having a GQ subscription.

There is some good information in that magazine for the everyday man as well as the metros out there.

cool1 11-22-2005 08:56 AM

jeans and a t-shirt is all I need

mrthumbs 11-22-2005 08:58 AM

these are people that would spend their lives flipping burgers if it wasnt for porn and internet.. so what do you expect?

seeric 11-22-2005 09:01 AM

i dress however i want regardless of who likes what i wear.

i also think that people confuse confidence with ego. theres a big difference.

theres a time and place for dress. you go with what you feel. at least i do.

thats my two cents, but around here thats worth about -2cents

MikeVega 11-22-2005 09:03 AM

honestly ... I used to dress nice when i had ti impress people (I was a Stockbroker) and I got into this because i was tired of it ... I like to hop out of the shower and put on some jeans and a t-shirt ... in this biz the biggest slob can be worth 100 mil ... you never know ... so you treat the little guy the same way you would the big dog ....atleast I do

exactly....one thing this biz has taught me, is that the guy sitting across the room from you in the torn t-shirt and faded jeans could be making more in that one year than you have made your entire life

Pete-KT 11-22-2005 09:11 AM

Jeans and a tshirt are style enough to me, If you dont like it oh well

SilentKnight 11-22-2005 09:16 AM

A lot of people these days simply don't know how to dress well. Or they're too lazy or careless to bother.

I've seen people wear jeans to a funeral and ratty t-shirts and sandals to job interviews.

They say clothes don't make the person - but I tend to think clothes are usually a reflection of that person. I'd hire a well-dressed person before giving consideration to someone who couldn't be bothered to at least make a modicum effort to look presentable.

MickeyG 11-22-2005 09:20 AM

a better question is why do you care what other guys are wearing? :1orglaugh

I have to agree with you on this one LOL.

As far as how I dress, well I think I dress TOO WELL. Yeah, you read right. Sometimes I get attention I would not want - perhaps the fact that im 6ft3 200lbs doesn't help the cause

People dress differently in Phoenix than in Boston. Amazing how I've only touched my suits a few times this last year, however, in Boston was dressing up on a regular basis. Even though my job doesn't call for it, something always poped up.

and you are exactly the type of person I would never work for, one that judged my work ability by the way I looked.

I have blue hair, 3/4 inch holes in my ears, ratty jeans and always t-shirts.

the jeans I am wearing right now cost me $115, my t-shirt was $45, the plugs for my ears were $80, my hair i did myself, my shoes cost $145

what makes me different in my work ability because I chose to spend my money on clothes that fit MY style, instead of a button down and slacks?

clothes are a reflection of a person, i will agree with that...most of my clothes are fun, outgoing and spark conversation...but i guess button down long sleeve dress shirts that all look the same and are BORING are what makes a person a better worker, huh?

PaulB IYP 11-22-2005 09:51 AM

you guys haven't seen me at one of these parties yet

personally .. I would never hire a guy in a suit to do design work ... it shows no creativity ... I want a guy that thinks creative and isn't afraid to express it .... sounds like your definitely not afraid to express yourself .. :thumbsup

Doesn't juicy wear the same suit all the time. If you think he has style I'm scared to ask how u dress like.

Kevsh 11-22-2005 11:32 AM

I don't think anyone is implying you need to wear a suit & tie everywhere you go, but I think the North American mentality is pretty clear: People, generally, have very little regard for their appearance. Personally, I've always felt that you should take pride in the way you present yourself.

Sure jeans and a t-shirt can be comfortable, I even dressed this way for the poker tourney (wrongly expecting a long night!), but for the events I had on dress pants and dress shirt. Guess what, I was totally comfortable.

Anyhow, I think it's just the mentality and one that was cemented by dating Eastern European ladies who wouldn't be caught dead wearing track pants and sneakers - even for a quick run to the corner store.

juicy wears Hugo Boss cant go wrong with that :)

BV 11-22-2005 11:36 AM

If I went to the Playboy Mansion I'd have to get out one of my suits. (out of proper manners and respect)

But if you ran into me around here you'd think I was a Beach Bum down to the holey jeans & flip flops :-)

fuzebox 11-22-2005 11:41 AM

I think it's funny seeing a big row of guys all wearing the same black collared shirt (vertical stripes optional) and jeans...

I never said it had to be "long sleeve, button-down dress shirts". You're using extremes as examples to denegrate my earlier opinion.

There's plenty of acceptable latitude between dressing slovenly or wearing a tux.

Aside from owning my own company, I also work for a large credit card company call centre - that has a dress code policy. The reason they give for the dress code is employees tend to act in a more formal, professional business manner when they look the part...they command more respect. From a client's perspective - I'd be more willing to take financial advice from someone dressed appropriately than from some idiot who looks like they just crawled in from an all-night rave party.

Personally, when I'm just working around the office or studio, I dress in jeans and a sweatshirt (or similiar). But if I'm out meeting with clients or models, I always dress in business casual (or similiar).

But that's just me. Perhaps I'm just old school in the way I think.

media 11-22-2005 11:54 AM
